Had tickets to the haunted Halloween murder mystery dinner. Located at the Abbott House in Seguin, TX. About an hour and twenty minutes from Austin. The House itself gives a rustic but creepy vibe which played backdrop to the evening's festivities that took place in the open air dining area. Cool evening air, picnic lights that hung about, the mood was appropriate. Some guests even came decked out in their Halloween best. The evening's burger consisted of a few well placed cast members and all the guests participating as some supernatural character. You were given a folder that held your name, bio, and a small list of objectives you had to complete before/and after the murder. The menu, was light. In hindsight, significantly over priced for serving size. Appetizer was a butternut squash bisque soup. That was pretty good!!! Entree consisted of a braised beef risotto over mashed potatoes. Bland but acceptable. Meat was tender, a bit salty. Dessert was pumpkin cheese cake. That was phenomenal!! I had two of those . The mystery was very enjoyable. Went there tonight for their comedy under the stars event. Was really looking forward to it as the venue was very nice, perfect for a small wedding or special occasion. The entertainment was mediocre at best but we were still enjoying just being out on a Friday night after a long work week. We opted for their 3 course dinner which consisted of a strawberry salad, steak, and cheesecake for $45 plus 20% gratuity per person. Since we were one of the first to arrive, they served us our salad right before the first act came out...a little before 7. At almost 8, they came out and offered us a second salad because they had extras. The ladies sitting at our table had their salad after us and they brought out about an 8 oz of steaks for each of them. We continued waiting patiently until about 8:30 when we finally flagged someone down to let them know we hadn't gotten our steaks yet. Another 10 minutes passed as we saw them serving others. We flagged a second waitress down to let her know we didn't get our food. By this point, we saw them starting to serve desserts to other tables. We flagged a third waitress down. By now, we weren't able to focus on the entertainment because we're trying to get our food, were,feeling very irritated, and hungry. Someone finally brought us each a plate of steaks. I noticed that they were considerably smaller than the other steaks that were given to the ladies at our table. About half the size of theirs and you can tell it was cut in two... so about a 4 oz steak each and they were cold. We flagged another waitress over and asked if they ran out of steak because it's obvious the steaks were cut in half. She said she wasn't sure and will go check. More time passed and we had to flag down another waitress to asking them the same question. The older waitress told us that it's supposed to be like that. The other ladies at our table thankfully chimed in that theirs were not like that and theirs were much larger and was a normal size compared to ours. We said it was obvious that it's cut in half. Her response , "We cut it like that because some people returned theirs because it wasn't cooked right." My thought right then was... so you're giving me someone else's returned steak??!! I asked for a refund on mine while my husband decided he was going to eat because he was starving. They took the 2 steaks back and returned almost immediately with two "new" plates. One plate had a thin, sad looking but whole steak on it while the other one looked like they just put the two previous pieces that they took away back on one plate. They were still cold. I again requested a refund. She claimed these were new and they threw away the other ones but they looked just like the two previous pieces. I took a bite thinking maybe it would be ok but it was cold, tough, and lacked flavor. My husband's steak was overcooked, dry, and completely brown inside. He ate it because he hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. When I asked again for a refund, she said they already brought me 2 courses. Luckily, another waitress (younger) standing nearby heard the conversation and said that she will refund me for the steak. I told her I didn't want the dessert either since I didn't eat dinner and because I can't have dessert without having something substantial in my stomach first. The other waitress (older) continued to say that she will be bringing me dessert. They were going to charge me for half the meal because the older waitress insisted that I already had salad and she will be bringing me dessert. The two sweet ladies sitting at our table kept apologizing to us as if they had anything to do with our horrible food experience. When they brought the desserts out, I again told them I didn't want it. The older waitress walked by and told the male waiter to give me dessert. He said, "She doesn't want it." He gave my husband his dessert. After a few bites, the ladies at our table pointed out that their cheesecake piece was twice the size of his. At this point, it became a series of funny but not funny events. Once the show was over and others started leaving, the older waitress came by and for the first time time since all this happened apologized. "I'm sorry for the mix up. Did you enjoy your dinner?" What?! Are you serious?! "No, I did not." They were sold out so they knew how many people would show up but didn't have enough food. I do not recommend this place for food. If booking for a wedding, get your own catering service. read more

Attended the Gatsby murder mystery on 6 June 25 put on by the Abbott House. And it was not at all worth the price tag. It cost $80 per person, there were no actors it was just the type of murder mysteries you get from Walmart to put on at Home. The meal was iceberg, lettuce with soggy croutons, soaked in Italian dressing, more dressing than lettuce. Followed by chicken that didn't taste like chicken with rubbery skin no browning at all on it on top of potatoes and gravy and a cheesecake slice for Dessert there were no other options no substitutions that's what you got for your $80. I will never attend one of there events again. read more

We had a graduation party here and the venue was nice. The party was great, but I would have expected it to be cleaner for the price. The ice boxes in the outdoor bar were filled with pollen and spiders, which we had to clean before we could use. We also decided to rent the house for the night for our friends, and I really wish we didn't. The kitchen was FULL of gnats, sooo many it made me wonder when the last time it was cleaned. There was also food left in the fridge/ freezer, which also kind of grossed me out. Good thing no one needed to shower because there was no towels. Toilets didn't look to have been cleaned in the upstairs bathroom. We were also disappointed that we couldn't watch anything on the TV, because there was a pin required to use it that was not given to us. I get that it's a historical house, but the cleanliness did not make it worth the price. I feel like we would have been better off staying in a hotel after the party instead. read more

We had my daughter's graduation party at The Abbott House and it was the perfect venue. The interior is beautiful and the courtyard is amazing. We loved having both spaces for our guests. Judy was amazing to work with and really helped me organize and plan the party. She had so many party accessories there that really elevated the look of our party. The price is a little higher however it includes wait staff that serves your guests, helps with set up and cleaning plus lots of other extras. It was the deciding factor on why we chose The Abbott House and we are so thankful we did. It really allowed us to enjoy our guests and the party. Everything turned out beautiful and I would definitely recommend this venue. read more

Wow! We recently held our 50th wedding anniversary party at The Abbott House in Seguin, Texas. Judy, the proprietor is the fairy godmother of party planning. She took my rather vague ideas for the function, sprinkled her magic fairy dust, and voila we had a special occasion worthy of a half-century of marriage. The restored Victorian home is a work of art, the garden is a wonderful venue for an outdoor party/or wedding and the service is impeccable. Had my babyshower here. Judi is fantastic and makes you feel so welcomed and made everything very comftorable. The place itself is so beautiful. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone looking for a place to host a party. You wont be disappointed. Looking to have more parties here in the future. read more

Our son and daughter in law got married at the Abbott House. What an upscale and outstanding venue for a wedding or any other event! The wedding was held in the courtyard amid beautiful gardens and elegant decor. Paul and Judi work hard to create the perfect event from start to finish. Our son and daughter in law said just before they were driven away in Paul's restored 1940 Packard, "Thank you for our dream wedding!" There's no better review than that! read more
