I wanted to make a diet change first instead of medications (due to my high cholesterol), and my GP said to see the Dietitian at Eatuitive Nutrition. My job is demanding and life can be hectic, so I was worried to get recommendations that were not realistic for me. Luckily I was wrong. I started with a free consult, and based on my fitness + nutrition goals, and my bloodwork done in May 2019 that showed high LDL and triglycerides, we decided on a coaching program with RMR and body composition testing. My first appointment was a baseline testing appointment to figure out how many calories my body needs, and my body fat % and muscle mass. Then the second appointment was a 3 day nutrient analysis review. After all this we were ready to piece it together with an assessment. I was so impressed with the initial assessment and how in depth it was. The dietitian and fitness advisor learned about my past eating habits, goals etc, and we linked my lifestyle to the testing results, 3 day nutrient analysis and went through my macro and micro numbers so I had a detailed action plan with daily goals to focus on. I was told to eat more, and more complex carbs specifically to get more soluble fibre to reduce cholesterol. This amount of carbs scared me, as it seemed like a lot, but I'm so glad I took the advice as I've never felt better and my cholesterol numbers dropped a full point into normal range in 3 months!!! My doctor was blown away and said I didn't need meds!!! Also I lost 15 lbs, and more importantly kept it off!!

Dr. Kimberley encouraged me to take some extra lab tests (blood, saliva) so we could be certain about what may be causing my symptoms. I have gone to other naturopaths who do little more than guess at the cause of symptoms (for example, one naturopath treated me for candida overgrowth, but the blood test I did with Dr. Kimberley shows my candida as healthy). This ensures that I am spending my time and money focused on the right things to get me feeling great! I'm feeling better than I have in years, and this is primarily due to diet. At $189/week (over $2000 for 3 months of "full support"), it is not worth the money. There are so many free resources online today like My Fitness Pal, Pinterest, free recipes on Canadian Living, it is far too expensive to receive recipes and meal plans from a "professional" that you can get online for free with a bit of research. Also, I found my in-person sessions to be very unstructured, I was not held accountable for keeping a food diary, etc. I've gotten a lot farther doing meal plans on my own, trying new recipes, and keeping a free food diary with My Fitness Pal (awesome iPhone app - just scan a barcode and it brings up the nutritional info). The nutritionist I was paired with was not compassionate or helpful when I expressed frustration and felt overwhelmed with having photocopied recipes shoved at me. At the time, I worked long hours, and it wasn't realistic to come home at 8 or 9pm and cook dinner for myself. It wasn't a matter of WHAT to cook, it was WHEN to cook it. She didn't seem to understand why this would have been difficult, since I was single and had no children at the time. Her comment was along the lines of "Do you think I want to come home and cook after picking up my kids, taking them to lessons, etc. No, but I do because I have to." She was able to provide a lot of recipes, but we never talked about a meal prep strategy or my relationship with food. In the end, it was not a fit for me.

I find the classes to be both challenging and fun-often a difficult mix to find. The instructors are knowledgeable and are great at successfully running classes with a range of fitness levels. They are careful to make sure they are aware of any health concerns and are able to offer suitable modifications to just about every exercise. They keep the workouts different enough that you dont get bored but there is enough routine you can feel where you've made improvements. I like that they create an environment that is more encouraging than competitive-I've been to other bootcamps where you are made to feel bad if your fitness level isn't yet what some of the others in the class are at. I recently decided to become a full fledged customer and I am impressed with how quickly they responded to my questions about schedule and price. I don't live overly close to where they hold classes but to me they are totally worth the drive. Oh and you'll see the results too! That is when I contacted Carol Carter from Angelica Holistic. She was very pleasant on the phone and I went to see her. I paid for multiple sessions at one time. I entered her home where she has her business and she wasn't even ready for my appointment. I went downstairs where she preforms her services got changed and prepared for my treatment. Within 5 minutes her dog was in the room jumping up and down beside the bed in which I was receiving my services. When I asked Carol if the dog could be removed from the room when I was having my colonic she said no he needs to be around me. For 45 minutes I had to hear a dog bark and her carter to him by telling him he was a good boy while I was receiving a very personal service. Then her dog took a pee on the floor right beside me when I was receiving my treatment, she stopped my treatment at that time and went to clean up the dog pee and give him a little cuddle before she came back to finish my service. It was disgusting and I felt so dirty by the experience. At the end of the session she was doing the hard sell on me to purchase her products that she has priced about 30% higher than anywhere else I have bought them and when I said no thank you she became very rude to me and said if I didn't want to take care of my health that was my problem. In fact I take very good care of my health and I am a personal trainer. I have just had the most horrific experience of my life with this woman Carol Carter. In short this woman is a complete disgusting disgrace to this business she works in. I am going to be reporting her to her association. Her information is below. Be very careful if you go to this woman as the health of her clients by having her dog in the room barking, drooling, peeing and pooping while you are receiving a very intimate experience is NOT professional at all. You Carol Carter should be ashamed of yourself. -Eva Carol Carter, WT, MH Angelica Holistic 403-829-8980 angelicaholistic@shaw.ca http://www.angelicaholistic.com

When registering I went to their website and tried to sign in but it wasn't working. So I called and left a message about it. I got a call back the next day from Sandra saying I could register over the phone. They were in the middle of changing their booking service over to the Mindbody system at the time. Registering with the app is super easy now. I find it a little pricey at $30 for drop in tho. The place is in the middle of an industrial area but it was well marked and I was able to find it in the dark just fine. When arriving I was greeted right away by Jesse who was teaching the class. They have a seating area to chill and chat. The change room area was a little rough around the edges. It's a unisex area with box cubbies for your things, no lockers. the change rooms are individual rooms and two unisex washrooms with showers. Just bring your own towel and soaps. The gym itself is an adult playground. It's hard to find something they haven't thought of. All of your universal obstacles are built that you'll find in most races. There's a turf area as well and a few rowing machines. For the class we did a quick warm up on the rowing machines and then of course, burpees. After that there was what Jesse called "12 days of Christmas" workout written on the board. 12 different exercises to get through while working your way back through the ones you already did each round. It was great in that it used the whole space so in between you were running and it gave you many attempts at each one to practice and get better. We had a 40 min cap to get through all 12 before cool down. Anything we had questions about he went over and would show techniques otherwise he just let us go at our own pace while offering lots of high fives and encouragement. The course included: 1.rope climb 2. crawls 3. tire flip 4. 4ft wall 5. burpees x5 6. 6 ft wall 7. push ups x7 8. 8 ft wall 9. box jumps x9 10. KB squats x10 11. turf sprint 12. monkey bars It was so much fun and inspired friendly competition with those in the class like a race. Though everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. We offered each other tips and encouragement. It was a great atmosphere. After time was up we did our own cool down. I was able to catch some time to play on a few of the other obstacles and try for the first time while not in an actual race. The others said they class is never the same and changes up so you never get bored and can train to be well rounded in all obstacles. Hopefully they successfully expand and get one of these gyms in Edmonton. I would sign up for a membership right away. If you want to get into OCR or are just one of those people who get bored with conventional workouts this place is literally an adult playground. And for those who race regularly its a great indoor facility to keep your bruises year round!
