So disappointed in the immature behavior of the staff this week. I was called a "Hovering Mother"…read moreand my child heard these words at camp as well. It hurt her feelings and mine too. So sad that name calling comes from a so called "Christian Camp". Those who know me personally would describe me as a sometimes absentee mother, but hovering would never be part of the description - you know I'm the one who doesn't check homework or monitor media real well. We live 5 minutes down the road from camp and we experienced our first heat wave of the summer. My daughter has asthma and was in a cabin with no air conditioning and very poor ventilation. I contemplated brining her a fan, but then decided, "nah she'll be fine." I called the next day (1 time) to check on her as she was on the top bunk and it didn't cool down to mid 85 degrees until 3am. Again, I called ONE time. I also had to pick her up for an Orthodontist appointment mid-week b/c we booked camp last minute (my husband lost his job and we weren't sure we could afford it) ...I couldn't reschedule the appointment (she wouldn't get in for another 6 weeks). Living only 5 minutes away this seemed like a reasonable solution. Apparently I inconvenienced someone by this hovering behavior (obviously they've never tried scheduling doctors appointments around a busy tweens schedule especially when the doctor is only in the office twice a month). I also mentioned to the counselor that in lieu of a care package, since we live local, I could drop off some water ice for the whole cabin to enjoy. What a nice and generous gesture that was again misconstrued as hovering. I was told the next day they would be away from camp. I later found out that was a lie and the kids told me they just didn't want the other cabins to be upset. Sure I get it, just say the truth (I probably would have hovered to bring enough for all of Hill Top). I didn't question the rejection, no big deal. So when my daughter was at her appointment she told me she ran out of undergarments (oops), she packed her own luggage (you know all hovering parents DON"T check their child's luggage to make sure they have everything). She wanted me to bring her some undergarments, I said I would drop some off that night. Well I forgot (not really I just din't feel like driving over again), because you know I'm a hovering parent. I dropped off the underclothes the next day. Sorry my bad, guess I was hovering again (I drive by the camp on the way to store almost everyday). You people have NO CLUE. Shame on you for bashing a parent for loving their kid. I'm telling all the locals to find a better place. You won't have to hear the sound of my propellors anymore.

My kids left for their 3rd summer yesterday. At the bus drop off, the parents had tears, but the…read morekids were running towards each other, and hugging, ready for summer to begin. They love it there and have made friends that I am sure will last for a lifetime. I'm sitting down with my morning coffee, ready to open up the camp's daily blog and photos. I get to see all of the fun they are having and feel good knowing they are being happy and carefree. There are NO PHONES at this camp, and that alone is worth every penny. My sons get to be outdoors, play sports, make friends, and get their childhoods back in a phone free, social media free, good old-fashioned summer. I miss my kids all summer, but Green Lane and their amazing staff are giving my kids memories of a lifetime. As they grow, I will look back on this monumental choice to send them to Green Lane and get to pat myself on the back. This experience is shaping them. It's enriching their lives. It's simply making them better.

With scenic walking trails, an outdoor classroom, day camps and a small indoor animal habitat, Briar Bush is a great spot for small children, couples on a date, or anyone looking for a brief respite from the urgency of the modern world. With free admission for locals and a small fee for out-of-towners, the preserve is accessible to all patrons provided that they are able to walk down some wooded trails that circle through the admittedly short walking routes. The centerpiece of the trails is a picturesque, secluded pond with benches for sitting and an interactive sign with information on the local fauna and flora. The indoor animal habitat has a small gift shop, pamphlets on upcoming events and information on other parks in the area, and several interesting animals such as a blind possum named Odin, a bearded lizard named Karl, and several other unique turtles and reptiles. All of Briar Bush can be walked through in an hour or so, but the low admission, interactive nature events and scenic walking trails will have you wanting to return again soon.

WOW, WOW, WOW! What a horrible experience we had there. We sent our children there and it was…read morehorrible. The counselor did not care about the kids, just his image. Our kids were pushed and talked meanly to by other kids and nothing was done. We told them to talk to counselor and they tried and were told it's just kids being kids. Our kids were often excluded because they are the quiet kids and not the aggressive kids. It was the worse experience and our kids left there feeling deflated and worthless. We then emailed and called Angela Russell and she never responded. This was THE WORST EXPERIENCE ever and I honestly would send my kids to the YMCA instead. There was no place for my kids to go when they were overheated or dehydrated. Absolutely horrible!

They were in an in home childcare prior & briefly at the YMCA but Kiddie academy is such a blessing in our lives! From the first day to now they rave about all of the fun activities they do there. I receive ample updates and can tell the teachers REALLY care about my girls. Meals are included making it easier on me as a mom as well. This summer they had many guests come in - zoo animals, a magician, theatre shows, kona ice, scientist, art bus and more. My 2 year old has started talking way more and my 3 year old is now able to write her name and starting to sound out words. My dream was always to homeschool but life had different plans - however I can not stress enough how happy I am that I know they are loved and learning everyday here. Additionally, I love the fact that they go outside often as in previous childcare locations this was so limited. I have toured many of the childcares in the area and I just want to say that this one is truly a gem and I would highly recommend to anyone. The kids here seem happy every time I come in - not just mine but almost all. Daycare is expensive no matter where you send kids but with lunch included this is still cheaper than many neighboring. I have so much good to say and my only complaint- which is not really a complaint- would be the hope to meet other parents more often as my kids go on and on about their friends at school and I wish I could arrange playdates for them at some point.

Open Meadows Farm is a horseback riding facility on a historic property set in the bucolic…read more country near Skippack, Pa. They also run a Horseback Riding Summer Camp for children and most recently have been hosting children's birthday parties. We recently planned and attended a wonderful party there and were delighted with the results. The "Dragon" themed party was planned for a 6 year old with guests ranging in age from 4-6. Five was the perfect number for this party but the Farm allows up to 10 guests for two hours. The ponies were adorned with their "unicorn" costumes to the delight of the riders. Each pony was accompanied by 2 experienced handlers. Every child was required to have a parental waiver signed and were provided with a helmet for safety. I have never seen so many smiling faces before. Two ponies allowed for multiple rides by each child and that was something they really loved. Short wait time! The next activity was a wagon ride full of real hay around the beautiful and historic farm founded in 1774. Adults and children alike enjoyed communing with nature and enjoying the beauty of the day. Kids love throwing hay at each other and reaching high for overhanging branches. We moved onto the Fairy Garden where dazzling little fairies had been hidden in the trees, just waiting for discovery by the little party guests. I counted at least 22...there could have been more. For a small fee each child was able to "find" a special magic stone that had been hidden just for them. We had to drag them away from the Fairy Garden..they really loved it. On to the rustic barn which had been festively decorated with tiny twinkle light. We brought our own decorations, paper products and balloons and set things up before the guests arrived. A burlap covered table for the guests reinforced the farm atmosphere and an extra table was set up to hold the ice cream cake, cookies, snacks and drinks. An old wooden wheelbarrow was draped to provide a spot for the gifts. It was a great party and I cant wait to go again with another group. The Fischer family made it an absolutely perfect day for the children and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an alternative to video games and bouncy houses!!

FYI, the correct name is Musser Scout Reservation. Musser Scout Reservation is a BSA designated scout camp for Cradle of Liberty Council scouting. This facility includes Camp Hart, Camp Garrison, and Camp Delmont in 1400 acres of MontCo along Unami Creek. My Cub Scout has visited for the Musser FallFest two seasons. Many Boy Scouts volunteer to run the different activity stations, and as teens themselves, they do a good job, but teens handling younger kids all day can be tiring for them and the end result can be hit or miss. Overall they do a good job and keep the kids stimulated. The first year our pack had everyone go separately according to their own schedules. I do not recommend doing FallFest alone. When you're not with a pack it's really up to parents to wedge their kid in edgewise at activity stations, and we encountered other packs who were pushy, cut lines, and selfishly commandeered ridiculous amounts of time on the popular slingshot (yuk!) activity, while others (like us) just needed 3 minutes to complete the requirement and move on. It's sad and disappointing when scout leaders themselves have zero comprehension of Scout Law or Scout Oath! Going with a pack (or as many other kids you know as possible) seems to be how the FallFest is best designed to process people, and it's a lot more fun for the kids to achieve these tasks with friends. We are in a different pack this year, and going as a group made the experience SOOO much better! The facilities themselves are consistent with Camp Hidden Falls (Poconos) and Chester Heights Camp Meeting (Glen Mills), which I frequented as a Brownie and Girl Scout decades ago. Musser facilities, like state parks and other scout camps, are a bit worn by the elements, and run down here and there from rugged use and lack of funding and/or (volunteer) staffing to keep up repairs. I noticed a bit of litter in places which was sad for a Cub Scout event, but Musser's facilities are overall in good outdoorsy shape. For our entry fee ($10 per adult/$25 per scout), and the fact that the staff is all volunteer, I felt the value was okay. The day includes a cafeteria lunch of pretty standard camp cafeteria food (hotdogs/hamburgers, potato salad, tossed salad, fruit, chips, granola bars, Oreos, and coffee, tea, water, fruit punch, etc for beverages). It includes all activities, including the popular archery, slingshot and bb (for kids older than Lion rank). My scout got to take home a carved pumpkin, a badge type piece of leather tooling work, and one craft. Oddly they kept his other craft made with a clothespin so they could reuse the clothespin--can they not spare a $0.10 clothespin? So it was overall a good value but some odd quirks. Last, having grown up Quaker, I'm wholly against guns so we do not participate in the bb activity. They have no problem issuing the FallFest patch as long as you complete most of the activities.

There is also FallFest which is a great time to come experience some of the activities that take place during the Summer. This is a great place to make lasting memories with your Kindergarten (Lion Scouts) through 5th grade (AOL or Arrow of Light) aged children. There is STEM, Scoutcraft, Handicraft, Boating, fishing, Native American area, a pool, a bouldering wall, a nature center, slingshot, BBs and an Archery range. This is Camp Hart along with Camp Garrison and Camp Delmont. All located on the Musser Scout Reservation in Pennsburg, PA. I spent 8 Summers as a resident adult leader with kids from K-5. The kids love this camp! There really is something for everyone here! My son loved boating, fishing, swimming, Archery, BB shooting....pretty much all of it. I had so much fun spending the time with him that I continued attending 3 years after he "aged out". The staff is always friendly. The food they serve has gotten much better over the years, 2019 being the best of all the years I was there (Chef Chris). You just have to keep in mind that he has to follow guidelines given to him for family friendly, nutritious foods. I will greatly miss my time at Camp Hart.
