Mr Twist has been a ice cream favorite in Granite City for decades and it has always been owned by the same family. If I remember correctly, I believe they are on the third generation of ownership. That's some serious family dedication to satisfying the sweet tooth's of G-City. If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of soft serve orange sherbet. So when I heard that is what Mr Twist is known for, I knew I had to go try theirs. While I was ordering, the two employees working shared with me that they now have a Raspberry Sherbet, too. They offered to twist the two sherbets, but I opted to do vanilla. My cone was delicious, I enjoyed the blend of vanilla and orange. There's something about that Creamsicle flavor that is so refreshing to me. However, after being given a sample of the new Raspberry Sherbet, I wish I would have blended the two sherbets. The Raspberry had a nice tang to it and next to strawberries, raspberries are my second favorite berry. The service was mom-pop friendly and you could see and feel their excitement to be in the passport. Instead of using the Route 66 stamp provided to all participants, they have their own design. If that isn't cool enough, when you get your stamp, they ask you to sign their Route 66 Guest Book. If you're on Route 66 traveling or live in the Riverbend Area, you need to go have some ice cream at Mr. Twist.

It was a blend of vanilla custard, fresh strawberries and hard-shell chocolate. It looked so delicious in the clear plastic cup, all three of the ingredients were swirled together. I would have taken a picture to capture the beauty, but with the high temperatures I just started to devour my sweet treat. I was sitting on their spacious patio, so it was melting fast and I was trying to eat it as quickly as it was melting. I would have preferred to been able to slowly eat it and truly enjoy the rich flavor of the custard and strawberries. However, sipping on the melted custard with the chunks of chocolate, did make for a nice treat, too. I'm coming back to try some of the food. The inside dining room was filled with senior citizen couples enjoying lunch. If it's good enough for them, I am confident I'll enjoy it, too. The young staff working the service window were friendly and very professional. They've been trained well, in providing quality customer service.

So, tonight I decided to stop in for coffee and a cinnamon roll. They have my favorite drink on menu so I figured I would try their flat white. She also noted that the espresso machine was going through a cleaning cycle and it would take longer and asked if that was alright. I stated that was no problem and waited. I'd love to say that everything about my experience here was amazing or even great, but unfortunately it fell flat for me and I feel like I wasted some of my money here. The cinnamon roll, it was pretty darn good. I'm picky with my cinnamon rolls and I would definitely come back here for this one. The cinnamon roll was a great size, very good on price point, and most important it was goood! The dough was soft and fluffy with good cinnamon roll gooeyiness throughout, especially in the center. The cream cheese filling was pretty good, not overly sweet. It did have a bit much icing on it for my personal taste but I don't see this being a problem for a lot of people and I'm pretty use to just scraping some off the top to my liking. So, yes, if you are looking for a good cinnamon roll, come to the Vault for theirs. Definitely worth the trip. Unfortunately, the coffee was a miss. I was unable to drink it because it had way too much milk in it. Even with the extra shot of espresso I could only taste milk. The staff member told me it was in the krunch. I stated I did not realize that was what krunch was and thought it was the chocolate crunch bar. She stated that it was like a peanut brittle with sprinkles. This was mostly on me...I should have made sure krunch was what I was assuming/thinking krunch was. Despite that, the staff member was very kind and offered to remake the concrete for me. She was in the middle of another order though and told me she would remake a concrete when she was finished. I waited for her to finish thinking she'd come back and ask how I'd like to remake it. I was thinking I'd order him a mint and hard shell or maybe mint and Oreo. However, she just handed me another concrete. I realized she just made a mint chocolate chip. I knew my husband wasn't going to like it, but I felt bad asking her to remake it again so I decided to just take it and head home. I was right, he couldn't eat it. The chocolate chips were just too much and they get hard when in icecream which isn't enjoyable to bite into. So unfortunately, that was thrown out as well. Another $6.xx that wasn't enjoyed. Definitely room for improvement and I hope this feedback helps for future visitors. I do appreciate the staff there. Everyone was very friendly. They were busy and still offered to remake my concrete. It just was unfortunate that I wasn't asked how I would like the concrete remade. This is a very nice place to hang out indoors or outdoor. They have a very spacious inside area with lots of seating from comfy chairs, to bar stools, to hi top tables, to big tables for families/large groups. They also have a walk up window from outside to order ice cream from.

While on one of our many trips to Edwardsville to hang out with our college friends, they casually recommended we try out Annie's for some sweets and delights. Next thing I knew, we were hopping in a car with our hangovers and hitting the road. Annie's, from what I remember, is like any other town's ice cream shack that is open year round. They offer your quick but yummy food options, such as: hot dogs, custard, sundaes, pie, and various other sweets. During our visit, we all snagged a few small things. Nursing some hangovers, we all gravitated towards the greasy offerings versus the cold stuff. Chili dogs were what we picked and snacked on, except for the one friend who was feeling 110%. She got some ice cream to go. The chili dog was decent but nothing to write home about. It definitely hit the spot. As for the interior, I don't remember much about it. The little that I do recall doesn't strike me as overly impressive but also not lacking. There were tables to sit at and ample room should it be busy during the summer hours. I wish I could have more to put in this blog post but since this was the only time we came here and it was after a fun night, this is all about it. Also, sadly, my friends have moved away from Edwardsville, but that doesn't mean I won't try to swing by it again on my way to St. Louis some day.
