I'm starting to notice, Pho joints in Quebec are not as good as Pho joints in Ontario. This is the 2nd time I went to a Vietnamese restaurant in Quebec. Their price is ridiculous for their 1 size only Pho and Hue. Back home in Ontario, you would be able to get a a XL pho for $15.50. The Pho here was so small, it barely had any noodles. Normally I never drink all the soup but this time I had to drink it all because I was still hungry. They really do it different here with their Pho. They put the bean sprouts directly in the soup for you before they bring it out to you. I don't like my bean sprout fully cook and soggy. Also where the is the lime? Did they squeeze the lime in it for me too? Where are the basils? Meatballs? The taste of the broth is subjective, these guys went with a flavourful herbal taste instead of the strong beef taste. The Bun Bo Hue's broth was ok. Once again it was very small just like the Pho. Missing a lot of key ingredient again. The atmosphear was good. They did their best with the limited amount of space they had. Service was prompt. This place could be a lot better because their broth taste good but way too many ingredients missing. read more

A bit skeptical about this place but felt like some hot noodle soup. Decided to give this place a try but came pretty late on a Monday night. I was glad they were still open. I had to pick of the restaurant as there are not many people in. It was pretty hard to see the menu given the low lighting and the candlelight didn't really seem to help. But since I wanted noodle soup it wasn't hard to choose from the 5 or so on the menu. I ordered the hue soup which was basically a spicy broth with beef and vermicelli noodles. Have to admit, it was very good and I really enjoyed it. Also ordered an order of spring rolls. Nothing too fancy about the spring rolls but they were decent. The lady was very nice and helpful. We tried this place for the dinner of our Quebec City day trip. We tried the Hue noodles with vermicelli and beef, Thailandaise with chicken, and general tao chicken. The beef in the Hue was too tough and cut too thick so it was difficult to eat. I really liked the soup though! It warmed me up in the chilly evening. The portion was just okay, the bowl was mostly filled with soup but not enough noodles which is a rare case since every Vietnamese place I've been to previously gave me way more than enough. The General Tao chicken was really tough too, unfortunately. It tasted like it was fried way too many times and the overwhelmingly sweet sauce didn't help alleviate that. One tiny complaint is I asked for no cilantro in my soup, when he arrived with the order, I asked him whether there's cilantro, he said "no" with a stammer, and voila there's cilantro (I know, I know, why go to a Vietnamese place if you don't like cilantro, I wonder as well). If it was proper service, he would've taken the soup back and have the kitchen take the cilantro out or at least make the effort to, at the least not lie about it. Considering the terrible reputation of Quebec City food, Thang Long was relatively decent. But I think that just shows Quebec City food suuuuucks. Overall 6/10. read more

Just went here a couple hours ago and I thought I'd share my thoughts while everything's still fresh in my memory. Coming from the New Jersey/NYC area and enjoying all different kinds of Asian food the tri state has to offer, I had to hit one up while I was here in Quebec! Since today is January 1st, this was the only Asian restaurant that was open in my area. It's located on the corner, and the inside is primarily small. Although small, the inside is quite cozy. Also our waitress was very nice, but something I noticed was that she was all alone dealing with all the tables. It was understaffed so you had to wait a bit if you needed something. Their was literally one waitress to the entire restaurant (insert laughing emoji). Now unto the food, the food was a "meh," at best. It tasted very "Americanized," or should I say "Quebecized," as the food was bland at best. I ordered the "spicy" chicken in satay sauce, and asked for extra spicy. When it came out, it was not spicy at all... What a bummer... Also for the price you pay, receive very little chicken and all vegetables. My girlfriend ordered the pad thai, and this is where it starts to get weird. Pad Thai should have a peanut sauce, with peanut garnish, as well as bean sprouts. This Pad Thai did not, instead it had a very dry taste of its sauce, no peanuts where found, and no bean sprouts. It barely resembled Thai food at all! In fact, they used thin vermicelli instead of the traditional flat thai noodles, and then they threw in mixed vegetables in the dish, I was like LOLOLOL, this ain't no Pad Thai, I guess many people like imitation Pad Thai. Overall the service was great, the food was a mehhhh at best. Also the price was a little too high, but I guess that's the prices of the city. I paid $53 for soup, an appetizer, and two entrees! Would I come back, probably only if they were the only Asian restaurant open again, and this was my only choice! read more

Everything was perfect from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. My friend recommended Thang Long for pho. The waiter was so kind. He explained everything to me in English since I don't know French. I ordered pho with beef (no seafood because I'm allergic). Everyone asked me if I liked my food and talked to me in between serving others. So many people arrived after me -- that's how you know the place is good! I also had an apple donut with maple syrup. It was so light and airy -- wonderfully delicious! I wish I had more time in Quebec so I can keep eating there! read more

On our last night, we decided to go food hopping and bar hopping. One of our friends in the group was craving Pho or noodles to warm us up from walking around outside so much. This place was near the hotel and walking distance, so we gave it a shot. Luckily, one of our friends spoke Vietnamese and the lady working did too! The menu for the soup section wasn't very extensive, but it got the job done. I ordered the Small bowl of Bun Bo Hue and when it came out, boy, were they not kidding when they said Small. It was seriously like a CUP! The next option up was a Large, which looked to be like a Small or Medium here in the USA. Portions are definitely smaller here in Canada, either that or everything is bigger in the US. If you're looking for an actual meal, DO NOT get the Small! lol. Flavor though was delicious. It had a nice spicy kick and the broth hit the spot. I liked how the meat is still raw too when served. One odd thing that stuck out to us...all the tables are set with a water glass and a wine glass. However, they do not sell any alcohol here. We asked the lady and she said you can bring in your own alcohol and drink it here, which explains the table next to us who brought out a bottle of their wine. I guess a lot of people bring their own bottles which explains why they would have to set each table with wine glasses? I don't know...very strange. I guess I wouldn't classify this as your "traditional" pho place. It reminded me more of a fusion want to be fine dining Vietnamese restaurant that served pho on the menu. I've been to hundreds of Asian restaurants in California over the years, some were great and others were crapholes. Thang Long is slightly above the latter, it's clean and intimate, but the food is barely tolerable. We ordered spicy beef noodles and "pho", neither of which were cooked right and caused indigestion and upset stomach the next day. The sweet and sour pork was decent but nothing great, the rice was cheap and tasteless. The waitresses had a cold and kept coughing at the counter which didn't exactly put me at ease either. She also forgot to get us the coffee and tea that came with our combo meals, but considering that the whole place has only one server it's somewhat understandable. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food don't bother with this place. read more

Ok. So here's the thing...There are a lot of reasons why I don't like this place. 1) I wanted a Pho house...this is not that. They have one option for pho and instead of being called that, it is Tonkenese Soup with a description that doesn't tell you "hey guys, I'm a Pho Tai" 2) Nothing else on the menu was something that I had ever seen on a vietnamese menu and for the number of Viet places I've been to (think the count is 95 now)...that's saying a lot... 3) At the table was a fork and knife, no chopsticks. 4) No asian people at the restaurant outside of the owners. 5) When I asked for rooster sauce, sirracha...they brought me Hoisin. Then I explained: "Red, hot sauce" and they figured it out. 6) Not actually siracha in the siracha bottle. 7) Expensive for pho. Soup was like 13 bucks. 8) Broth was not nearly warm enough when it got to the table and there were no "mixings" for me to add to the soup. 9) Broth was boring 10) Place closes around 2:30 and then reopens at 5ish so we had to come back for food. 11) They wanted reservations...didn't have them...told us to head to room X and take a seat, no direction...we sat down "Oh no, not there, that's for people that bothered to make reservations, sit over there." Uhmmm....Ok...sure...why didn't you just tell us where you wanted us to sit! 12) This place stinks...like it smells...nah...ok...it doesn't actually smell, but I wish it did, cause then I could request yelp bring out a Zero star rating. bu bo hue was not that authentic. The broth was not correct. Tasted more like instant broth made in a hurry. The taste was not there. My daughter has kung pao chicken which was two sweet. Our Vietnamese appetizer was excessively salty. We could not eat it and had to return it. The Thai noodle soup I had was not exception. Little taste. This restaurant should consider renaming to some Asian fusion restaurant. They are trying to do too much. And nothing particular is good nor authentic. Based on what I had tonight, I would call this over priced food court Asian food tailored to non Asians who like everything overly seasoned or else they can't taste anything. The soup that came with my "Jardinier" vegetarian plate was so overly seasoned I couldn't eat it. My tofu vegetable stir-fry was ok but on the greasy and salty side. The beignets were so overly fried and greasy I was getting an upset stomach just looking at them. Menus had a film of grease on them. The Jasmine tea was too strong like it had been steeping for hours. The place was crowded on a Saturday so it looks popular. I was the only Asian there besides the staff. Not a good sign in my opinion. If you like overly seasoned food for the non Asian palette, you may not mind. For me, if I want food like this, I would get it at a food court. read more
