Rasoi - Pot Biryani with chicken

Summary: I've tried…read morenearly every Indian/Nepalese spot in the Bay Area, and this is by far the best Indian food I've ever had. A trusted local recommended Rasoi Indian Kitchen in Barcelona; it was a 50-minute walk, but absolutely worth it. I had the chicken tikka masala (medium spicy), my friend had the pot biryani with chicken, plus naan. Both dishes blew me away: incredibly tender, flavorful meat and perfectly balanced spice. Even the rice was soft and aromatic, not dry or firm like I'm used to. Pro tips: the bread on top of the biryani is for steaming, not eating. Medium spicy was perfect. The yogurt sauce is delicious and helps tame the heat. Final Verdict: If you're in Barcelona and want to experience Indian food done right, go here. ------------------ Rating: Food: ***** Incredibly flavorful and tender dishes; best Indian food I've ever had. Service: *****Warm, attentive, and helpful throughout the meal. Staff speaks excellent English. Ambience: *****Clean, comfortable, and hip Value: ***** Very fair pricing for the quality but I am coming from SF Bay Area where everything is much more expensive ------------------ Full Review for people with time to read: I've tried almost every Indian / Nepalese restaurant in the Bay Area, mainly SF and East Bay, and I have tried a few in the South Bay), and this, by far, is the best Indian food I've ever had. Everyone says that Indian food is amazing in the UK, and frankly I've not tried Indian there, but I cannot imagine how much better it can be than what I've had today. My good friend texted his friend where the best Indian food is in Barcelona, and his friend came back with a very definitive recommendation. It was 2 miles away so a 50 minute walk, so a substantial distance, but my friend had faith in this referral, so we made the trek to Rasoi Indian Kitchen. I ordered my standby, chicken tikka masala, and my friend ordered a pot biryani with chicken, which is an Indian rice dish covered with bread for steaming as well as 2 orders or naan (not buttered). All the Indian food I've had in the states is either unacceptably at the low end, or "decent" at the high end. What keeps me ordering is dipping the naan in the sauce, whether curry, tikka masala, or butter chicken sauce, but the meat itself is always a bit dry. Today, both the chicken dishes had incredibly tender and flavorful chicken, with both surprised and delighted my palate. I ordered medium spicy for the tikka masala, and my friend ordered medium, and if I had a re-do, I would've ordered medium spicy for both. It was a bit spicy, but the spiciness wasn't overpowering and paired well with both the bread and steamed rice. My impression of Indian rice was that it's typically harder than Chinese rice, but the rice in the biryani was equally tender and soft. Some tips: so the bread that steams the biryani isn't meant to be eaten. It can be, but it's not as delicious as the naan. I asked if the dish could've steamed it with foil, and my friend assented. Also, go for medium spicy and then you can always add spice if you want (unless you are a spice lover). The accompanying yogurt sauce is also a great way to notch down the spice level, and it is delicious regardless. Final Verdict: If you are in Barcelona and either like Indian food or what to see what amazing Indian food should taste like, give this spot a try.

Wanted to try some Indian food in Barcelona and glad we came across this place…read more Very lovely aesthetic on the inside and they even Serve the food in those metal plates which was nice. Portion size itself was fairly decent and I'm glad we ordered just the right amount of food for the group. The Chicken Dal (chicken dhansak I think they called it) was very unique! First time I've had a dish that was chicken and dal together and it was really nice. First time I've had a dish that was chicken and all together and it was really nice especially with the jeera rice! Brother ordered the Butter Chicken and it was very flavorful as well. Loved the Chicken Tikka too! Lamb Rogan Josh actually came quite salty! Like it was unbelievably saw me so we told the server and they were quick to replace it. Even got us an extra dessert to make up at the end. Pudina Paratha was also quite nice! Flaky and just the right amount of flavor in there. Got the Gulab Jamun For dessert and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. I usually feel they end up getting too sugary sweet but this was perfect! They brought us one on the house and now that we had two on the table one of them was notably different from the other. I think it was just that it was extremely hot! Like you actually had to blow on it and it would have burned your mouth if you didn't do that first. Overall very delicious!

Coming from…read moreCalifornia I've had my good share of Indian food, but nothing beats the Indian food, like this place here. I was having a night in and decided to place an order for my friends and I for dinner and got some dishes. I don't know if it was because I was new to the app Glovo but a few dishes I wanted were part of a promotion and I ended up getting them half off. I placed the ordered and was told the establishment would handle the delivery. Within minutes I got a notification letting me know when the delivery would get there and exactly 40 minutes later it was. The chicken tikka masala was bright in hue and flavorful. It tasted so creamy and authentic. Not like "Americanized" Indian food. With that being said, the chicken was very moist, and the tomato sauce that covered it was so rich and delicious the extent of my vocabulary won't be able to describe its justice. The channa masala was also such a delight. I've never had this dish and I'm so glad I have nothing to compare it to. All I know is that the chick peas were soft, flavorful and not too oily. I feel as though I've been spoiled by this dish and when I get back to the states no other channa masala would compare. The naan bread here is denser and more flat than the ones I've had. I normally like it fluffy but this style made them a little chewier and I actually liked the texture a lot. It was great to dip in all the sauces. The chicken biryani was good as well. I loved the flavors, chunk of chicken, cashew and even the eggs. The mango lassi was definitely out of this world! So rich, creamy and they used really good yogurt! I actually saved some to enjoy later because I didn't want to finish it in one go. Overall the flavors and dishes were well made, well packaged and was perfect! If I get lucky to visit Barcelona again in the further this will be the first place I visit!

We picked up some take out (enough of the tapas already) and it was a great change of pace with fantastic food. We ended up getting the kofte, chicken, vegetable biryani and two naan (garlic and meat) for about 18€. The food was homemade, fresh and delicious. The meat naan which is completely new to me was delicious filled with ground beef and the meatballs so tender. A good amount of food for the money. We asked for medium spice and it was what I would call medium. Con: it did take about 45 minutes to get the food. I'm not sure if they were out of something or what the hold up was, but damn that's a long time. I also saw a few people stroll in after us and get their food fairly quickly. Second, I can't guarantee the cleanliness of the place. The very nice owner was definitely coughing up a lung and then handed us the bag, let's just hope he wasn't handling any of the food. I mean this happens everywhere, but I was watching it go down for 45 minutes so that's why I bring it up. Overall, if you're looking for non-Spanish food which is kind of hard to find, surprisingly in BCN, this spot is super authentic Pakistani, cheap and delicious. Cash only! They also changed their name to Village Spice or along those lines!

With a name like Swagatam, it has to be good. So let's get swaggy!…read more If I'm being honest, we have not become converts of Spanish food. (Please, no hate! We're not big into seafood.) However, we have enjoyed some great pastries here-churros y chocolaté at CHOCOLATERÍA 1902 and napolitanas at La Malorquina in Madrid. After all that, we needed something spicy. The winner of the best food we've eaten in Spain so far is Swagatam! This little gem is tucked a ten-minute walk from La Perdrera and two doors down from our Airbnb. Swagatam really brought the spice! As you can see from the picture our meal came with four house-made sauces and two house-made seasoned salts. My wife fearing over-spicing, went with mild chicken curry. I ordered medium chicken curry and my daughter medium chicken tikka masala. All appropriately spicy. I was happy to kick mine up with sauce number 4. We really enjoyed our meal. Not only was the food delicious, the owner, Lal, has been the kindest person we met in Spain and Portugal so far. To be fair, he could top the nice list in any country. He's just a positive, happy dude with a great outlook and attitude. He is a friend to all. The service was great and the prices reasonable too. Great quality and presentation. He brought my wife and I a shot of limoncello (we had to politely turn down since we don't drink) and a mango lassi for our daughter when we had finished our meal. Lal is a gracious host, for sure. We recommend a meal at Swagatam the next time you are at the northwest end of the Passeig de Gràcia.
