With a name like Swagatam, it has to be good. So let's get swaggy! If I'm being honest, we have not become converts of Spanish food. (Please, no hate! We're not big into seafood.) However, we have enjoyed some great pastries here-churros y chocolaté at CHOCOLATERÍA 1902 and napolitanas at La Malorquina in Madrid. After all that, we needed something spicy. The winner of the best food we've eaten in Spain so far is Swagatam! This little gem is tucked a ten-minute walk from La Perdrera and two doors down from our Airbnb. Swagatam really brought the spice! As you can see from the picture our meal came with four house-made sauces and two house-made seasoned salts. My wife fearing over-spicing, went with mild chicken curry. I ordered medium chicken curry and my daughter medium chicken tikka masala. All appropriately spicy. I was happy to kick mine up with sauce number 4. We really enjoyed our meal. Not only was the food delicious, the owner, Lal, has been the kindest person we met in Spain and Portugal so far. To be fair, he could top the nice list in any country. He's just a positive, happy dude with a great outlook and attitude. He is a friend to all. The service was great and the prices reasonable too. Great quality and presentation. He brought my wife and I a shot of limoncello (we had to politely turn down since we don't drink) and a mango lassi for our daughter when we had finished our meal. Lal is a gracious host, for sure. We recommend a meal at Swagatam the next time you are at the northwest end of the Passeig de Gràcia. read more

The food was amazing. Fresh and clean. I eat a lot of Indian food this place was great food and to top it off great portions at a fair price. I had the chicken saag, lamb tikka masala and several other items. The youngest with me was 10 years of age and the eldest 48. We all enjoyed it. It does look shady walking up to it ona side alley and it's a lil tight when u peek inside but the service and food were tip top. The waiters spoke English and were hospitable and helpful. read more

Absolutely mouth-watering delicious. They have a decent variety of sauce and every sauce is tasty in its own way. The meats are tender and soft, goes perfectly with their home made sauce. Their mango lassi is a must try. I had 4 servings of the mango lassi. The mango lassi was sooo good I tried taking a picture of the bottle but it was a home made lassi in a water bottle hahaha. Nonetheless I was feeling extremely satisfied and full after eating here. Not only was the food amazing, the service was outstanding. The owners and workers are friendly and fun people! Hands down the best Indian I've had in my life (throughout Europe and D.C.). Service was prompt. Everything was seriously delicious. Also the place was very clean! We got the menus .. 12.95 euros. Amongst the two of us we shared pakoras, shek kebab (served on a hot sizzling plate), papadums, chicken curry, lentil dhal tadka, naan and rice. It included desserts which were gulab (a sort of fried "dumpling" of sweet condensed milk, cardamom and other spices) and mango lassi. Everything was so flavorful, perfectly spiced and balanced. We also got a bottle of the house wine which was a Catalan wine for just 8.95. The wine was pretty good for a cheap house wine! We came in pretty late on a Thursday night around 11pm. Service was fantastic. The menu is very clear and easy to read with Spanish and Catalan and English all in the same menu. To be honest there's not much of an atmosphere but I feel like that added to the whole experience. The food simply spoke for itself. Update: I've been here many times now. As an Indian from New York, I've had many experiences at Indian restaurants throughout my life and oh my god, was this one of my favorite ones EVER! My dad has been to Swagatam before on a previous trip to Barcelona and insisted we check out this little location on our family trip together. My brother and mother were both hesitant - why would we have Indian food in Spain when we can have it anytime at home? But boy, were we all SO glad we went! The location is small and easy to miss, but sooooo not something anyone should want to. The owner is extremely friendly and made our experience very enjoyable and funny, and the food was absolutely amazing. I am an Indian living in Los Angeles, and have eaten Indian food everywhere, LA, London, New Delhi. The food was surprisingly authentic. We had asked for it to be spicy, and the food was what we would expect in India. My only caution and the only reason for giving this restaurant a 4 stars was the goat meat, which outside of India, I have had a hard time getting to be the same quality and as tender as I get in New Delhi or other parts of India. The host is refreshingly Indian and I would suggest that you stick with the chicken or lamb and you will get a truly engaging experience of Indian food cooked well, with the spices being properly cooked and nicely marinated in the meat and vegetables. We ordered Goat Karahi, Aloo Gobhi (Cauliflower and Potatoes) and Tandoori Roti (Whole Wheat Tortillas) all of which was fantastic. read more

The best Indian food I've had in Barcelona! I ordered the chicken tikka masala with medium spice and it was perfect. The right amount of curry and spice. Their chicken tikka masala has almost a sweet flavour to it which I thought was really nice. I ordered it with the garlic naan which is also a favourite. I ordered a second chicken tikka masala to take home so I could eat it again the next day! The service is really friendly too! They speak Hindi, English and Spanish. Swagatam is located alongside Passeig De Gracia on Carrer Sant Augustin. It's a small restaurant with approximately a dozen tables and a full bar. Service was great however the authenticity of the food was about average. We had the Mutton Seekh Kebabs and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken Tikka Masala was more on the sweet side than on the tandoor side. Perhaps it was prepared to suit the tastes of Barcelona rather than authentic Indian Tandoor. The cost of the dishes was acceptable. This place is not a formal place however does the job if one is hungry and craving for the Indian cuisine. read more

A really great local Indian Place! The food is good. It's usually super busy on Friday-Sundays, because it's really popular. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. My only real complaint to this restaurant, is that the Chicken Tikki Masala is really tomatoey. Everything else that I've been served there has been really good. Walked in skeptical bc of previous yelp reviews, however I was very impressed. The two co-owners are friendly and have great service. Ordered the paneer tikka tandoor (I'm a vegetarian) and the malai kofta with garlic naan and rice. That was enough to stuff my starving husband and i! They gave this amazing mint chutney for spicy eaters (ie my husband) that was probably the best he has ever had! It is for sure the freshest & tastiest Indian I've ever had in Barcelona and can easily measure up with some of my favorites in India. This hole in the wall restaurant is an excellent choice for an authentic North Indian food. The Chef/Owner welcomed us with a big smile and made us feel comfortable.
