The color was horrid; the hair itself was severely damaged. I was convinced my only option was to cut most of it. "No, not true," Naieem said. The gentleman bolstered me in a matter of minutes. He had a plan. I knew my in-depth research had been successful. I'm unable to recall the plan specifics. Naieem is more of a Picasso, not paint by numbers. After the color turned out marvelously it was time for the harsh haircut. No. My hair was healthier. My ends were not hay, they were silky smooth. I only needed a little cut from my hair. Naieem's talent overflows. I doubt my hair has ever looked or felt better. I cannot imagine going anywhere else in the future. I want to share a couple of things I feel are significant. Emmett's The Studio has the kindest, most thoughtful, funny, joyful and professional team. I left not just over the moon about my stunning hair but also with a full and happy heart. I do try to be generous so they will remember me for next time, you know, how I like it, the kind of cut, etc.. but the thing about haircuts is you (well me) never really know until you (me) style it yourself.. my 2 stars is being highly gracious for what I paid (over $8O) for a trim. I have natural hair and typically rotate between a number of protective styles that I can't perform myself. I cannot braid so I have always sought out hair stylists to help me take care of my hair! I have been going to a braiding shop down closer to Indy and I really wanted to Find a salon closer to my home. I live about 5 minutes from this location so I was very excited to connect with this business. My first experience with Allen was back in November. I inquired about braids via phone and was told to text him pictures of the style I wanted. I texted him pictures with several questions to receive no return call/text. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Months later in May I reached out again for simple cornrows (5-6 braids) inquiring about pricing/availability. I did tell him and send him pictures of my last inquiry and the proof that I revived no message back. His response was "that's odd. Either way do you want me to connect you to a stylist for the braids..." I was connected to Francis who did a wonderful job and made it a great experience. Yesterday I reached out to Francis and I didn't receive a response so this morning a texted Allen to inquire about making an appointment for a sew in installation. He responded with "typically I do a consultation prior to installs" ( which is great, I take really good care of my hair and would benefit from this service) he also added that he didn't have any hair in stock. I then told him that I would provide the hair, I have hair I've purchased awhile back from a very professional salon that already customized the wefts to my head. His response was that typically he doesn't allow clients to bring their own hair. Allen has provided me with consistent poor customer service. It's almost borderline rude. He did not ask me anything about my hair or anything about the services I was inquiring about Or even his process and how to purchase hair from him. I was open to the possibility but how poorly he treated me completely turns a customer off to this business. I don't know if this salon offers booth rental or what but this is not a business I would recommend and it is very disappointing as I had high hopes & there are not many options for AA hair styles on the South side.

Extremely accommodating with coffee, water, mints, comfy seating. They have so many different options to choose from other than just getting your hair done. They offer lash extensions and brow lamination, massages, and lots more. They even have a boutique you can browse while waiting. It's kept clean and professional. I was very excited to meet the stylist and get my dream hair. But sadly, that wasn't what happened. I have dark hair and wanted it calico style, orange with blonde highlights. By the end of the consult we decided on dark hair with blonde highlights. Throughout the whole conversation the stylist kept talking me out of what I wanted. She said the color would bleed, it would be a long process, I could only shower in cold water, it's high maintenance etc etc. which sure could be true but there was absolutely no compromising and she completely changed what I wanted and made it sound like those were things I couldn't handle. I showed her a reference video of the hair I wanted and told her it did not have to be exact because I know my hair would process differently and her style may be different. She pointed at the orange part of the girls hair and said that was her natural color, which wasn't true. The girls roots were black. Once she started talking me out of the calico style I moved to maybe just doing it reddish orange. I showed her a few references of a character from a show, who obviously wears wigs but there was a different variety of red/orange, all of which I was fine with. I wanted to try to lift my hair to a red without bleach, which I know is possible because I've had my hair lifted before. But we talked about bleaching it and I told her I was fine with that but no matter what I tried to change she kept furthering from my original idea. So far in fact I started to get uncomfortable and almost just agreed to something I didn't even want. I also talked about cutting my hair because my ends are kind of thin and I know they will thin out over time, I asked what she thought and her response was whatever I would want done. And then went on to say "do I think anyone can cut their hair? Yes." It was just kind of irritating because I was asking her opinion as a professional and if I was a stylist that's not how I would have answered. I know she doesn't want responsibility if I end up not liking it but she could have answered it a bit better. "You know, ultimately we should do what you want. We can trim a bit off and see how you feel." Or something of the sort. I also have anxiety so when I go into places looking for your opinion it's also a comfort for me. Because I'm trusting you with something important and it made me not trust her when she couldn't offer her thoughts. There was also another girl with her, shadowing who made things kind of awkward as well. They would converse with one another while I was looking for references because I had to scramble for new ideas since she kept discouraging what I wanted. It just kind of made me feel like a third wheel. Her energy felt mean girl-ish to me. For example, there was another girl working and literally cutting someone's hair in the chair next to us. She wasn't there when we first started, but I guess her talking to her client was distracting to the stylist helping me and she made that known by loudly saying she couldn't focus because she has ADHD. There were other chairs we could have went to, even the lounge ones but she chose to sit there and seem irritated by someone else simply doing their job. We finished and went to the front to book and the same girl that was working next to us was there too. They have two computers and the one the girl I was talking to was on wasn't working. So she switched to the other one, but not before asking if the other girl was done using it. She just sat down and the other girl looked kind of uncomfortable. Just feeds into that mean girl energy that I sensed already. If she can't be considerate to her coworkers I would never think she'd be considerate of me. She tried to schedule me out all the way in mid June. She didn't mention any other stylist in case I wanted it sooner. I didn't end up scheduling and I'm glad I didn't because I would have hated my hair. I ended up going to another salon, asking her to lighten it and for blonde money pieces and she said "alright!" And explained my hair might not lift to a super orange or red color. She still agreed to my original idea but reminded me it might not turn out exactly like the reference, which I was perfectly fine with. I got the hair I wanted and left happy. Sadly I had to pay 25 for that consult and I'm not sure I'll ever return. If you have anxiety or are shy, be sure to stick to what you want. And don't feel pressured to do something you don't want. I hope you leave here happy!

She was 100% wrong, they had cancelled on me due to some kind of problem, no water or no electricity, I can't remember now. The owner tried to make it right by offering a product they sell, Oribe brand,for free. I refused to take it on principal so there could be no question that I was right, employee was out of line and I clearly wasn't looking for anything. The shampoos bowls held the most comfortably neck rest ever especially bein from Vegas. Loved it & Shawn's most marvelous scalp massage! She dried my hair straight as I requested & I was on my way. She was very nice & I will be back. Upon settling the bill & tip, the receptionist said the manager left me an Oribe Detangling Product for the inconvenience. Her location is close to me, which is a huge plus, and she works efficiently without ever making you feel rushed. I like to get in and out, and she delivered--while still giving me a thorough wash, protein treatment, silk press, and trim. What I appreciated most is that she listened to how I felt about my hair and what I wanted, then actually followed through instead of just doing her own thing. Trying a new stylist can be nerve-wracking, but she put me at ease right away. She's friendly without being overly chatty, professional, and her space is clean, organized, and welcoming. I look forward to future appointments with her and getting back into a routine with my haircare.
