This is a family owned business. The owners and the people who work here are a bit shy about their English. They are nice once they feel comfort around, which takes several visits. They have been helpful and have preventing me from buying foods that would have been a bad surprise like balut. If you are looking to buy spices in large bags, this is the place to shop. The restaurants buy theirs here. It's also a fantastic place to buy hot sauce. Be prepared this store is jam packed with stuff. read more

Very friendly owners. I USED to shop here regularly but bought some tofu skin for $7.50 a package. I did not say a thing knowing that the price was double what sayweee.com has it for. The selection is great but gouging like that just lost a customer. I am all for supporting local businesses and am ok with paying higher prices, but double? Not cool. read more

We were in town visiting and I wanted to cook dinner for our hosts. We just happened to drive by when I received a text from them saying that she could not find somen noodles that I needed for dinner. This place is like one of those best kept secrets. There was so much stuff packed in (quite neatly)such a small space - but items were easy to locate. I appreciated the veggies and fruit neatly wrapped and displayed. They stocked lots of common Thai/Lao/Viet items that is not found in your average grocery store. The have a small parking lot to the side and back of the building. I didn't even know we had a Vietnamese supermarket in Vermont but it totally makes sense given the sizable Viet community in the Burlington area. The lovely Sandra drove me here and I didn't realize it was Viet until I saw the name. It shook me up. It feels like I'm back in the San Fernando Valley walking into Bangluck Market. It's as authentic as it gets for a Viet supermarket, and is packed with Asian snacks, a produce section (with dragonfruit of course!), sauces, etc. We needed riêu cua for bún riêu and we got it! We needed fish sauce, and I found the exact brand my best friend in Houston uses at home. There's even a Buddhist religious goods section with incense and joss paper, and even that lotus lantern that goes on the family altar. To top it off, a Vietnamese woman was behind the cashier counter and spoke to me in English. I asked about the bánh chung on the counter in Viet and she got pleasantly surprised. We had a short conversation about who I was, why a California Viet boy is all the way up in Vermont (I go to school in Middlebury), and how I kind of looked Chinese to her rather than Viet which is a whole other story. This is getting personal and deep but it was really nice being able to see another Vietnamese person in this predominantly white state. My heart was warmed after talking to her, as she tried to help me hold my bag properly to not drop my fish sauce. I definitely want to come back to say hi before I leave Vermont after graduation. read more

One of the first Asian grocery stores in the Burlington area serving the Asian community and others. Over time this store has expanded a little in size while cramming more products, thus making the aisles quite narrow and making them passable for one person at a time. You'll find non-perishable items such as noodles, sauces, rice, spices, various ingredients, snacks, candy, and many more. They have some frozen items, hard to find Asian drinks, as well as some fresh fish, meats, fruits, and vegetables. Other items such as utensils, bowls, chopsticks, plates, cups, incense, and calling cards for Asian countries are available as well. This store is packed with stuff which are not commonly found in general grocery stores. On street parking can be difficult to come by but you can find one in the parking lot to the side and behind the store. If you are looking for friendly service, you are forewarned, smiling and courtesy by the staff is very optional here. But hey, you'll find the cool yummy Asian products. When I found this place I felt like I hit the jack pot for an Asian store! We recently moved from CA and we're use to getting all sorts of Asia items. This was the only place I was able to find everything I needed that was also found in CA. I also love that if you buy the fish they'll scale and clean it for you! Great local Thai market. Granted, I am not Thai myself but this is where we get our 15 pound bags of rice whether it be jasmine or sticky rice. This is no tourist trap, this is as authentic as you will get (outside Thailand) Ask for Andi the shop owner. read more

Thai phat is my favorite grocery store in burlington. It's astounding how much stuff they've packed into such a small space. Chicken, duck, pork, goat, at least twenty kinds of frozen seafood, frozen dumplings of more varieties than I can name, frozen steamed and baked Chinese buns, vegetables of every ilk, the cheapest (and often freshest) scallions and cilantro in town, myriad noodles, soy and fish sauces, chile pastes, bean pastes, vinegars from at least three countries, fermented things that are both intriguing and terrifying, like seventeen kinds of soup bases, Asian confections including differently filled mochi, wafers, fresh and dried fruits, dried... Things that I don't know what they are, a whole array of Indian spices and curry blends, enough rice to feed a small island nation, shrimp crackers (nong shim brand are amazing,) lots of random cooking supplies, calling cards to Africa, man, I could really go on for much longer... The best time to go if you're looking for produce is Thursday-Sunday, some things can get a bit un-fresh after that but it's easy enough to avoid if you're paying attention. I come here at least twice a week, I'd be lost without it. read more

This is a great little Asian grocery store in the north end of Burlington. You'll find a wide variety of fresh and pre-packaged goods that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Prices are very reasonable. There are several similar stores within a 5-mile radius. This is by far our favorite. read more

This little small store packs a lot of items. A little hard to find for first time. Lots of hard to find proteins like pork belly, fresh fish, blood cakes, etc. Prices are a little pricey. Thai Phat is an INCREDIBLE Asian market on North Street. I have no idea how we have been blessed with such as amazing source like this, but I'm grateful for gift horses - which I haven't yet found there, but I've found many other kinds of protein that Price Chopper doesn't have!! A variety of whole, fresh fish, quail, goat, all parts of every animal (chicken feet, tripe, hearts, gizzards, kidneys, pigs feet, etc, etc, all beautifully cleaned!!), fresh tofu in bulk, the list goes on and on. Then there's the dry goods, canned and bottled goods, all the sweets, and all the kitchen equipment. That doesn't even include all the items in their refrigerators and freezers (take home an awesome dumpling-fest, instead of fast-food!), the incredible variety of gorgeous herbs and vegetables (their cilantro is reliably the best in town!), and their fruit selection! They have fresh lychee nuts / fruits, aaaannd... DURIAN!! Andrew Zimmern's nemesis, and Tony Bourdain's favorite fruit, that is banned in many cities because of it's strong smell! Well, they have it, in a couple of forms; sometimes whole & "fresh", although it doesn't smell, so I question it's freshness (very understandable, as I would guess many shipping companies would not want to take such a strong-smelling fruit!). They also have it frozen, however, both whole, and just the important edible center part, frozen while ripe. That's what I tried, and OH MY - yup, it smells! It's worth trying though, because the texture is lovely, and if you can get past the smell, it tastes pretty good. If you would like to ease in to it, they have a variety of sweet things (candy, etc.) that are durian flavored to start you off. Of course, that's not the only flavor they have, so don't be scared off. If you like trying fun, new sweets, keep an eye on the counter area - they always have interesting, new, and fun dessert-y type things to try there, for a fairly low price. Some of my favorites are the sesame candy, young coconut candy, and cashew nut cookies, depending on what they have! I used to feel a bit intimidated to ask questions, as I am often the only non-Asian in there, and I don't hear much English being spoken. At this point, I ask anyway, and the staff people generally do speak English, and are very helpful. They try to find answers if they don't know something right away. I have no idea how they fit so much stuff into such a small store, yet it's all organized, and you can find what you're looking for, too! If you need an ingredient for an Asian dish / meal, or many ingredients, this is the place to come! The prices are definitely right too - very inexpensive! I think the primary goal of this place is for the community to have access to the quality food they love, and making money is secondary. (Last word - right across the street is a newer Himalayan Market, which is great! If you are looking for Indian ingredients at the same time, just head over there - they're awesome too!). read more

Today we want to Burlington to check out there Asian supermarket so we can gather ingredients to make kimchi on Monday. First thing that made me notice them was the name of the supermarket and I knew it was a Vietnamese supermarket. We walked in and there were tons of Asian product's but keep in mind there store itself is pretty small but they do carry alot of stuff for this tiny place. I walk each aisle and look at each things they carry w.them. There fresh seafood, dried noodle, sauces, fruit/vegetables, candy and etc. I pick up a few things and got to chat w.the person who was in front of the house and the store has been here for a few yrs. He asked what am I doing so far from Cali and I say cooking school and first he thought i was Thai because of my curly hair. Overall I am happy that I found this place and I know I will come back here whenever I need something but the store is alittle pricey for the stuff they are sale. Yes I know it is Vermont but if that is the case, I just tell people to ship me things back in Cali. read more

I've visited this store for many years because it seems like the only Asian store in the area. I've found it the worst in customer service. The cashier was never helpful. He/she never talked to you. You asked them where things are or how much things are, they just looked at you a like "you don't have to buy it" attitude. the people in the back-end, are equally super rude. yesterday, was by far, my worst experience. I took my elderly mom to buy rice. they have their rice bags without a price tag or a label. how the hell do we know what to buy. the lady from the back in were screaming at my elder mom for looking at the bag. the cashier rather looked at his phone than helped us. The Himalaya Store next door has most of Asian food you need; if you don't find them there the American stores will likely have them. read more

Cara S.'s review pretty much nails it. Lots of items to choose from, and the prices are reasonable. I went over because of the above review, and was happy I did. It's a small store, very tightly packed, but the selection is very good regardless. It's been two years since I moved here from Rhode Island, and I've really missed the great little place in Cranston I used to shop at. I sure was happy to find this place, and tonight I'm having some awesome Lo Mein with baby boks, or a super bowl of Ba Mee (and maybe some great pork dumplings), thanks to shopping here.
