One of the best massages/passive stretch sessions I have had in a long time. I booked for an one hour Thai massage with Irina (Senior practitioner). Online booking process was a breeze. Irina actually went through my online intake form very thoroughly and had a very good grasp of what my body needed to repair itself. I am a seasoned cyclist, runner and spin instructor. VIBE I never really explore Koreatown but its location, very close to Christie is worth it! The place is very calming, kind of like an upper apartment. It just works. THE GOODS It was all about a Thai massage with Senior Practitioner Saya. I have a lot of knots in my lower back and shoulders and he really tried to get through them. It's still not gone but my situation is not something that's going to go away in one session. That said, I just felt renewed and relaxed after my session. Saya is calm, patient and has magic hands! From the foot massage all the way up through the legs to back and arms, he is an extremely thorough masseuse. I had never had a thai massage before but the process is interactive on a mattress (it's not sexual I swear...even though it sounds like that!). I'd bring an extra t-shirt --the one that I put on had an unusually high collar. Practicing yoga really helped with the breathing throughout the process. I pinched a nerve in my neck which made my shoulders and entire back almost impossibly sore and stopped me in my tracks for 2 solid days. On the third day I woke up, and began calling and emailing around to get in ASAP for a massage. Being before 8am. I left a lot of messages and wrote a lot of emails. By 9:30 I was contacted by Deanna at Thai Massage Toronto, who, on receiving my email, contacted one of her senior practitioners, Saya, and asked him to come in to help my emergency situation! She told me he would be at the studio by ten to ten, and that the earlier I get there the more time he could go over my issues. On my arrival I noticed the studio was clean, calm, quiet, and had a really positive energy. I can't say enough positive things about Saya. He was patient, warm, kind, and incredibly skilled. After an hour with him I had ranges of motion that I couldn't dream about that morning. He was very calming, and took the time to explain to me what he felt was going on in my neck and shoulders. I can honestly say this was the best, most thorough massage I've ever had (and I've had many). I'm going back today for session number 2, and can't wait. A word about prices: there are three price scales, depending on whether you are seeing a Junior, Senior or Master. Saya is a Senior and he was well worth the extra $15 , but many Yelpers seem to swear by the Juniors as well. Given the nature of this establishment, I bet everyone is fantastic. This is my first time writing a yelp review. I have had a taste of Thai massage a few times before, a couple of times at trade shows (20 minute sessions) and once in Chiang Mai, Thailand (1 hour session). I booked online for a 75 minute session a few nights before as my neck, shoulders and upper back area was feeling increasingly tight and tense. Yesterday night, I had my first session at Thai Massage Toronto. Dennis was my massage therapist and he went over what I had written in my online intake form. I never felt rushed even though I only came 10 minutes early and he had a really calm and friendly demeanor. I wasn't sure what pressure I wanted and he said I could just let him know if I could handle more. As it turns out, I do enjoy more pressure. If the pressure is too light, I end up falling asleep and I wanted to be awake enough to appreciate the work and relaxed enough that I wasn't tense. The transitions were smooth, the pace was consistent and I was glad I could giggle through parts where my muscles were more tense. I have a bad habit of holding my breath if things get painful and I didn't do that yesterday, so I was pleased. I really enjoyed the postures and the assisted stretching. I feel I have improved mobility and although I am sore, the tightness I felt has dissipated. I've been to many massage spas and clinics before but I really liked the coziness of this place. The room was cozy with dim lighting, heated padding and music. I was just expecting to be on a thin mat on a wooden surface, so this exceeded my expectations. :) It isn't often that my first time at a new space feels comfortable but thanks to Dennis, it was. This place is amazing Sine is a true healer and I could tell right away her energy is true. She really worked out the stress and tension in my body I was so relaxed I fell asleep during our session. Her flow of energy is perfect for when she's healing people with their pains and finds all the kinks that need to be worked out. I just came back from a session ($62, 1 hour) with Julianne and feel like a swan trained in gymnastics. Lots of organ stimulation and hot flood of purification sensations, reminds me of osteopathy plus reflexology but way cheaper than the former. Diana is nothing short of amazing! I had my first Thai Massage here. Diana and Thai Massage are two of my new favourite things. I have been getting RMT massages at least monthly (maybe more often) for approximately the last 10 years. I have seen many therapists over this time and no one has impressed me as much as Diana. I transferred to Thai Massage Toronto from another school and was amazed at how much safer their approach was for both a client and a practitioner. Deanna Villa teaches Thai Massage the way that allows you to make a long-standing injury-free career as a therapist. It's is not only about how to deliver a great session but also why it has to be done that way here in Canada where the body types and the issues the clients have are so different from those in Thailand.
