Shai and Megan are the lovely couple behind the Still Light Centre. They are both experienced teachers and practitioners, so you are in good hands when you come to them! I'm a Thai Yoga Massage practitioner myself and I first met Shai when I did my training at the Lotus Palm school in Montreal. He was a senior teacher there for years before starting this new venture in Toronto. He practiced, taught, and cowrote many of the books that are being used by Thai Yoga Massage students in North America today.
Their studio is in a beautiful loft space on the east end. It's tastefully decorated, bright, clean and full of character. I especially loved (wanted!) the pair of vintage barn-like doors that separated the studio to the change room. The studio is convenient to get to; easily accessible by the 72 bus from Pape station or by the Dundas street car.
If you've never received a Thai Yoga Massage before, you're in for a lovely treat! It is so much more than just a massage. It's a deeply meditative practice that leaves you feeling energized, grounded and open. The treatment is done on a comfortable mat on the floor, fully clothed. You're guided into a series of yoga-like postures where you will get wonderfully stretched out. With palms, thumbs, elbows, feet and knees from your practitioner, your muscles will get deep and effective tension relief. Once you've experienced this form of massage, you will never want to go back to just a regular massage!
I received my massage from Shai and he was attentive and confident in his touch. His experience showed as he expertly guided me through a 1 hour sequence that both relaxed and energized me. It was a massage like none other and I felt like I did yoga to boot! (Definitely made me feel less guilty for skipping yoga that week!) The time went by far too quickly. Go for the 90min treatment if you can.
