The name itself, That Thai, pretty much sums up the general feel that it's just another one of those types of eateries. The restaurant is a converted Queenslander with a good sized outside deck to enjoy a summer breeze on. When you arrive, you have to be a little patient because the staff always seem to be preoccupied with something. It took my wife and I five minutes to be sorted out and that was on a night when the restaurant was only half full. In comparison to their service, that Thai serves a pretty substantial meal. Their Banana Leaf Chicken was so big that I couldn't finish it. My wife enjoyed her yellow curry but in the end there just wasn't any excitement about the place to warrant another visit.

The staff were slow to acknowledge our arrival, then slow to bring the menus, then slow to take our order. And the food was - you guessed it! - slow to arrive. Once it did arrive, it was okay. Pretty standard suburban Thai fare in big portions and reasonably priced. For me to return to a restaurant where I've experienced poor service, the food has to make tolerating the service worthwhile and that isn't the case here.

This dish has the most amazing burst of flavour jam packed on tiny pieces of chicken. Order this dish with coconut rice on the side to balance out the spices, it works a treat. Other dishes I like are the 'Green Curry fried rice', 'Pad Thai', and 'Mussaman Beef'. It is not the cheapest restaurant in the area, but it is worth it. We did a quick circuit and settled on Thai Terrace owing to it's breezy, spacious front terrace. Plenty of outdoor tables is always a plus at a restaurant, especially in the Queensland climate. We sat down and our menus were brought straight over. After much discussion about sharing and who wanted what, we had come up with a lengthy and complex order which always makes me a bit nervous because restaurants can be prone to messing those up. I needn't have worried because the food came out after only a short wait and nothing was missing and everything was tasty and authentic. We all agreed that it had been a successful meal and that we'd picked the right restaurant and ordered well. We thought the staff and service at Thai Terrace had been far above average and that the prices were very reasonable (especially once we split the bill per head). When served at the counter, I was told that our food would be another five minutes. This was forgivable. When the plastic containers came out, steam building in the transparent containers, I took notice of the vibrant colours of the curries and warm beef salad we had ordered. That was reassuring. Arriving at home and opening our dinner, we were surprised that there was a genuine fresh look to the meals. The aromas themselves indicated that our meals hadn't been taken from some big pot of premade food. The beef was edible, the veges decently cooked - the sauce was a bit bland though. Overall I was disappointed. If the food was good I would think the price was reasonable. They get points for having Roti Chennai with Satay sauce (mmmmm) but my husbands Chicken Pad Thai was distressingly lacking in any veg (although he was happy as he hates vegetables). My Thai Beef salad was OK, lots of coriander and onion, but the beef was cut with the grain, not against it so it was exceptionally chewy and gristly. There's a nice little patio area out the front where you can sit at tables in the breeze. Because Thai Chada is tucked away in the Grange there's a pleasant, local vibe and not much traffic around so the patio tables aren't subject to lots of traffic whooshing past which means you can easily have a conversation and enjoy your food. I think the thing that I like best about Thai Chada is how dedicated the staff are. Whenever I go past (which is at least daily) and all the other restaurants in this little village are closed, Thai Chada is reliably open and keen to welcome you. It's nice to see a suburban restaurant willing to stay open on past 8:30pm and also on Monday nights, especially for those of us who don't finish work until late or prefer not to eat too early. Thai Chada's diligence extends beyond opening hours, too. The staff are so warm and helpful and always seem pleased to see you.
