It was simple but good. It tasted good so I cannot make too much of a complaint. The rice is rice. The chicken was chicken. It didn't have any seasoning but of course it came with a brown sauce for the flavor. The chicken wasn't cooked on high enough temperature to get the traditional wok hai in Asian cuisine. The brown sauce was thin so it barely coated the chicken but it tasted good. The vegetables in the stir fry was crisp and fresh and cooked just right. Overall it will not blow you out of the water but it tastes good so I wouldn't be opposed to coming back. The staff as incredibly friendly and so that alone makes me want to visit more. Getting true customer service where one is very happy you visited them is rare but it is standard here. My husband & I were leaving Winship at Emory late on Thursday & we were very hungry. We had been to Thai Chili's years ago & looked to see if it was still open ( this was after 9 p.m.) They welcomed us & when we asked if it was too late the owner assured all was well. We ordered egg rolls, a papaya salad, spicy basil chicken & masaman shrimp curry. Everything was delicious. The food was fresh, hot & good sized portion. We had enough leftovers for a second meal! I ordered Pad Thai (with chicken), a dish any credible Thai place should be able to do well. Went in at 1pm on a Tuesday and ordered Thai Basil Rice and Pad See U off the lunch menu. Rice tasted old and crunchy. Ordered the basil rice without meat and extra veggies but the veggies were weird...zucchini, chunks of green bell peppers, circular sliced carrots, no real flavor. I would have preferred broccoli, onions, thinner sliced carrots, etc. You know when the flavors don't marry well together? Ordered the panang curry and Tom yum soup with shrimp (small). The panang curry taste was pretty good. However, I deducted stars for portion to price ratio. It was the smallest portion of curry and rice I have ever had. I was okay with it because I thought I was getting the lunch portion until I received the bill and was charged $16. When I got clarification on the portion I was served, it was the regular menu price/portion because they do not do lunch specials on weekends. There were two pieces of red pepper and 4 pieces of green pepper and a lot of chicken, there wasn't enough rice. I wish there were more peppers and rice and that it was priced accordingly. I deducted more stars for the "spicy shrimp soup" for which we ordered a small. When it came to the table the scent of fish oil was so strong, it smelled terrible. Then my partner who ordered this dish didn't finish because there was just way too much fish oil. He loves Tom yum and always finishes his soup at other places so for him to barely eat half was enough for me to write about it. We started going to Thai Chili many many years ago and we always enjoyed it. During Covid it was closed for an extended period and then only open for takeout because, I believe, of an immunocompromised family member. We tried other thai restaurants after Covid and then we heard that Thai Chili had been sold, and so we hesitated to return. We recently went back and we are happy we did. Our favorite dishes .... basil rolls with great plum sauce, salad with best peanut dressing ever, basil scallops, and other dishes are the same quality as under previous ownership. It was a slow night, only 5 tables when we were there, though it appeared that there was a bunch of takeout, but our food was served quickly and professionally. We were so pleasantly surprised by the quality, flavor, and freshness of our recent takeout order from Thai Chili, which made for a perfect Friday evening in. Her pad see u with tofu, egg, and broccoli was delicious and not too oily, whereas my red curry with tofu and eggplant was light but flavorful. We rounded out our order with crispy fried tofu with sweet chili sauce, a nice, clean green papaya salad, and flaky and rich roti for dipping. Solid Thai food option near La Vista Rd. I had a craving, and hubby found this place in an effort to pry me away from my normal haunt. Overall I was very pleased. We got two apps, two entrees and a tea for a little less than $40. The place is nice enough, and it looks like they have an area that could host larger parties in the back. I had the green curry (hot, not Thai hot), with chicken, and oh MAN was it HOT! For reference, I really like hot food. I like it to burn the outside of my lips and linger for a bit. This was almost too hot for me, so take that as a warning if you're not into that sort of thing. We also got the spring rolls (I accidentally ate one before I took the picture, whoops), and coconut chicken soup. Both were tasty and as to be expected. The real show stopper of the night was the ginger tea! It was slightly sweet and delightfully spicy (to be clear, not spicy hot, just spicy). So good, and totally crave-able. Oddly enough, I drink a lot of ginger tea, and this is by far the best I've ever had. But enough about that, because I'm sure you're not going there just to drink tea. Hubby got Pad See Ew with beef. I was invited by a friend to try this spot since they know I love Asian food. It's located in a store front with other places of business. The only thing that I didn't care for were the tomatoes. I'm glad they were big so I could easily remove them. However, it was very very good. It was seasoned really well and not too much. It also had lumped crab meat which was very generous! It tasted so good. So good that it will be my go to spot just for that! Ordered: Pad Thai, Lara Gai, and Penang Curry. Went with chicken on all three . Larb was dull with nothing tasing fresh, dry cat food for chicken and nothing you'd expect from this dish. Curry tasted out of a bag with rubbery chicken and no seasoning. And pad Thai. A signature dish. Utter fail. Got spaghetti with kikoman's Thai sauce. Again with old dried out chicken. I'm learning not to expect much from food here in ATL. Ingredients aren't fresh. Food isn't prepared with any care. General experience is poor, boring and basically saddens me. Overpriced and slow-service - yikes. I stopped by here last week for dinner with my boyfriend. The restaurant is surprisingly very big - there's at least three different sections to the restaurant (I guess for large dinner parties). After my boyfriend and I ordered our food, the server seemed to disappear the rest of the night. She didn't seem that friendly either - but maybe it was a rough night for her. We ordered the fried calamari for our appetizers - it was the only decent thing we ordered that night. The batter was light and wasn't too greasy. The fried calamari saved this place from 1 stars. I ordered the pad see ew with beef and oh man. . it was probably one of the worst pad see ew's I had in ATL. It was very salty and actually gave me food poisoning later that night. :( For $13 I was expecting more, but this is definitely not worth your money. I'm disappointed that my most recent dinner at Thai Chilli was not good. I've been a patron for many years and my go-to has always been the Pad Thai with shrimp and the salad. Thai Chili is good, but you can find better value for Thai food elsewhere in Atlanta. Thai Chili is located near Emory University in the Briarcliff La Vista Shopping Center. It's a nice restaurant. Elegantly decorated and traditional. I'd put Thai Chili in the same general class of Thai restaurant as Tamarind Seed, Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft, and Top Spice. It's more fancy than casual. Not full blown upscale like Nan, though. The restaurant's menu doesn't feature anything too different or unique which sets itself apart from its competitors. Just the usual curries, noodles, and Thai entrees. At dinnertime, when I visited, expect to spend up to $7-9 per appetizer and at least $11-12+ per entree. If you don't get a simple curry or noodle dish, expect to spend upwards of $20 per entree. I stopped in for dinner and tried a couple dishes: Salmon Curry ($16.95) - salmon sauteed with green curry sauce, coconut milk, and mixed vegetables Spicy Catfish ($15.95) - catfish sauteed with Thai eggplant, peppers, basil, and spicy sauce Four salmon filets were served with the Salmon Curry order. They were drenched in green curry sauce and the coconut milk flavor was very evident. The curry was silky smooth and had a pleasant all-around flavor. The salmon filets themselves were OK. Fresh, but tasted a little salty. Still, not a bad dish. Vegetables that came with included broccoli and bell peppers. The Spicy Catfish was very good. The portion size was just right for a healthy eater, but I would've loved to have more. The catfish was cut into small almost-bite-size chunks and sauteed with sliced Thai eggplant and bell peppers. Excellent flavor. It's a very savory dish. If you've never had Thai eggplant before, it tastes like regular purple eggplant, except milder in flavor. Also, Thai eggplant is green in color and in the shape and size of a golf ball. I highly recommend this dish. If you don't like spicy foods, you can ask your server to vary the spiciness level of each dish. Service was fine. Overall, a Yelp "A-OK" restaurant. read more

I haven't eaten at Thai Chili for a long time and my dining companion chose this as our spot for our bi weekly lunch. I made a few quick observations. 1) gone are the waitstaff wearing traditional Thai clothing. Our waitperson was wearing a very short denim skirt and a tee shirt. She also appeared to be the only wait person taking orders and running the cash register. 2) The decor seemed to be stripped down from it's former tranquil cocoon feeling. 3) No soothing Thai music any more. We were promptly seated as the restaurant opened at 11 and we arrived at 12. The menu has changed and as it is in other places with severe price increases. I noted that their lunch choices were hardly what I call a good sampling of their regular menu. The big special of the day was a salad and a cup of soup for $15.00. I opted for a lunch special one of which was chicken Massaman. It was served with a small salad which was chilled and properly dressed with their ginger dressing and rice on the side. My friend ordered lamb chops off the dinner menu and was accommodated with no question. Her entree came with the same small salad and rice.. Our wait person told us that she had told the "owners" to go up on that price as "rack of lamb" prices are much higher now. Their website indicates that entree costs $27.95 but in fact was $34.95. I didn't feel that it was professional to tell us about their problems with the cost of their food. With all due respect, it was very well cooked, presented beautifully and was too much to eat for lunch. I also ordered Tom Kha soup and after a short conversation was told there was a $2.00 up charge to add soup which I had to send back as it was not hot. It was little more than coconut milk and water with a few pieces of chicken and mushroom. My curry was lacking a bit. Rice on the side and sliced avocado atop the chicken, there was no potatoe, no onions and cashews as the garnish. The sauce didn't cover the bottom of the plate and the chicken was overcooked. All things considered, although I didn't check for sure, but it appears to have been sold to another owner. I went with a Yelp recommendation (thanks Dan!) to get the spicy catfish. Apparently it can come with basil or curry. I opted for the healthier option. Although there were three chili's next to the item in the menu, I asked if they could tone down the spiciness. They were so accommodating. The fish was lightly fried so you can still taste the tender fish. There were different vegetables including bell peppers. It came with a side if rice. The dinner portion is a bit more pricy but is bigger than the lunch portion and I could not eat it all in one setting. Service was very friendly. There were plenty of seats and parking.
