Finally got chance to stop in to this charming hidden gem. I walked in and was immediately welcomed by a very nice gentleman. He brought me some water as I waited for my friend to arrive. The menu is extensive and filled with various Thai and Lao dishes. I thought I wanted curry, but then I wanted stir fried noodles, and somehow ended up with papaya salad, tum tard to be exact. Presentation was impressive. It was served on a platter on top of a bamboo basket. Loved everything about it. Since then, I've ordered from them several times.

Tong the manager greeted me as soon as I entered the restaurant. I was really surprised how easily the pork bellies I ordered melted in my mouth with a taste that knocked me out! The restaurant is very welcoming and has a at home environment. I know that my Muay Thai kickboxing teacher would love it there!!! INSTAGRAM: JKD Sifu Mike Goldberg

I'm a loyal customer to my favorite Thai and lao restaurant. However, whenever i've tried everything on the menu and I start feeling like I live there, it's time to venture out! Good ol Yelp led me to Thai Barn. It's in a little strip center off of Western Center. Tucked into a corner. Small place. First visit, I had pork and Chinese broccoli. The pork had a good crispyness and good flavor. I love Chinese broccoli. It's superior to regular broccoli. The lad na was good with the lovely gravy. The money bags were tasty with fried chicken skin with ground chicken inside. My 2nd visit I had the lao steak. Tender meat and delicious. Khao piek Sen was good as well. Service was good. Enjoyed the Mason Jar of sweet tea.

We always enjoy dining at Thai Barn--it's truly our favorite go-to spot for Lao food. Everything there is just perfect. When we used to live around the corner, we ordered takeout twice a week because we couldn't get enough! Now that we're in Dallas, we haven't found anything quite like it on this side of town. My husband's favorite dishes are Khao Piek Sen and Pad Kee Mao, both packed with the perfect balance of flavor and spice. We usually go for spice level 3 or 4, which always hits just right. Beyond the incredible food, the people at Thai Barn make the experience even better. Everyone is super friendly, and the restaurant has felt like home from day one. They know our names and have treated us like family from the very beginning--and that hasn't changed. The restaurant itself is always clean and well-maintained, without that old, lingering smell that some places have. Overall, Thai Barn exceeds our expectations in every way. If you're looking for amazing food, great service, and a warm, family-oriented atmosphere, this is the place! We only wish they'd open a location on our side of town!

Best kao piek in Fort Worth. Very nice staff. Food is authentic, would recommend it if you are around the area wanting authentic and fair priced Thai/Lao food.

Best Pad Kee Mao in Fort Worth - spicy levels are aggressive. Highly recommended this place!

Some things stood out as different today: - It was desolate on a Thursday at noon, just 2 couples eating - The food is different - see below The good? Service was fast. There were 4 male workers hanging out, ready to serve us. So that was nice. Also, the app and meal came out fast. Today, two of us shared: - Fresh Spring Roll with Shrimp - Pad Key Mao with Beef There were two shrimp rolls in the order. Both were very fat - stuffed full of lettuce and cabbage mostly. Each roll had 1/2 a shrimp in it. For long rolls, I'm accustomed to two 1/2 shrimps in them. Being so fat, they were harder to eat as they sort of fell apart from the bulk of green in it. As we split our meal, they served each of the two rolls on their own plates, each with a dish of peanut sauce. So that was nice. The Pad Key Mao (Drunken Noodle) was meh. I'd rate it a 2.5 on its own. The presentation was nice but there just wasn't much flavor and the beef wasn't thin strips of sirloin. I think we'll pause Spice for a bit.

Fair portion for the price, pack with flavors, and they don't shy away when giving you proteins. Order always comes out fast! Not a complaint there also. One thing though, their customer service can be a hit or miss. Last time I was there which is Saturday, March 8th. Young lady was working the front and she was kinda unprofessional. She kept saying "ugh I don't want to be here" and "ehh I'm tired I want to go home" and so forth. As I customer I don't really care to hear that. ‍ and when one of the cook left to go home and went to his car she said "what the fuck, he didn't even say bye to us" I was a little taken a back. But aside from that one time incident everything been good here! We keep coming back for their food!

While the bahn mi isn't exactly traditional, it is still very good -- I'd highly suggest getting it with the pate. The sampler appetizer has a little bit of everything and is great for sharing. Pineapple fried rice was delicious. Pad Thai also great! If you're a spicy eater like me, just go for very spicy. Malai Kitchen in Clearfork is a welcome detour from a shopping afternoon, Thai and Vietnamese…read morecuisine in a bright, airy space that makes you want to settle in for longer than your credit card probably intended. A quick note on seating: the patio is lovely in theory, with the optional open windows and a breezy feel, but the chairs are not winning any comfort awards. Inside booths are the move. Also worth noting, this is Fort Worth, and once the thermometer hits triple digits, the patio conversation ends itself if the windows are open. Plan accordingly. Malai starts every table with steamed sticky rice and an eggplant dip, which is a charming little ritual and a genuinely good one. We also kicked things off with the Edamame, a heads up on the heat level there, and the Fried Imperial Rolls, filled with ground pork and shrimp and served with a sesame soy sauce. Fair warning: these do not photograph well and arrive at the table looking a little shy. Don't be fooled. They're flavorful, subtly spicy, and well worth ordering. For entrees, we tried the Basil Vegetable Fried Rice two ways, one vegan and one with chicken. The vegan version was a genuine surprise, with vegetables cooked just right and a flavor that didn't need the chicken to make its case. The mushrooms, however, had the texture of something you'd find in a hardware store. Chew at your own risk. The Green Curry, meanwhile, was a case of too much of a good thing. The curry was so heavy-handed it drowned everything underneath it. Sometimes restraint is a virtue. Save room for the Banana Pot de Crème. It's creamy, subtly sweet, and a graceful finish to the meal. The service at Malai is enthusiastic, and I do mean enthusiastic. The staff works as a team, all smiles, attentive, always nearby. Occasionally a little too nearby. More than once a plate nearly disappeared before we were done with it. It's a small complaint, and honestly a far better problem than the alternative. They're warm, cheerful, and clearly enjoy what they do, which goes a long way. Portions are generous, so order a few dishes and share the wealth. For a lunch stop between shops, Malai Kitchen punches well above its weight.
