The waiter dissappeared for a long time and the first 2 plates arrived and 20 minutes later my sons burger arrived. The food was awful, to be polite, actually some of the worst food we have ever eaten, my sons burger was inedible, the bun was burnt hard on the inside, our Tiger fries were awful and grilled to death, the salad was horrible and smelt old, my sisters vegan fries was so overcooked the vegan cheese was baked hard on to the dish. It was crap, and cost us £56, seriously absolute s**t food. We couldnt leave fast enough, I warned the table next to us, the table across from us, had been waiting for 30 minutes to pay. We left and went to 5 Guys and had an amazing burger. DO NOT GO HERE, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I have just returned from 20 years in the U.S.A and I never had food as bad as this. WOW I'm here to warn you.

We both enjoyed our cocktails. We were ushered to our seats and due to the fact that we were both really hungry at that point, we decided to have a starter of nachos to share and a main. He had a medium rare steak and I had a cheeseburger. My only regret is... I shouldn't have filled myself up with the dang nachos (they were good though) so ended up asking for a doggy bag for the remainder of my burger. The steak was well-enjoyed too. It was definitely the belly-buster meal I was looking for. And for the price? It's definitely only for special occassions for us, thus the minus star for affordability. Plentiful portions of well observed tex-mex food (the tex is better than the mex, which has something of an afterthought-y quality now that that masterchef woman has put proper mexican food is on the telly andeverything) served by friendly staff on big ol' plates in a timely fashion. The Buffalo wings are good for the UK - and are improved by liberal application of the very well-chosen Louisiana hot sauce that lights up every table. The free tortilla chips are welcome and the Burgers hefty. A decent selection of elaborate virgin drinks will service the person who drove you along with his teetotal mates; I'm sure the cocktails are as good. Smith and Western's reminds me of when TGI Friday's opened in Reading. It was like it came from another planet where everyone was happy to see you and cleaned things and had read The Society of the Spectacle but, instead of taking it as a blistering critique of late-capitalism, had taken it as an inspirational instruction manual on the possibilities of restaurant decoration. TGI's has become a rather tacky commonplace, but Smith and Western's has been built by true believers in the possibilities of theming as an integral contributory factor to the eating experience. I recommend it - unless you're the sort of person who won't like it. You know who you are. To you I say only that the Faerie Queene was written in deliberately arcane language and that your quest for authenticity is futile. Now pass me the Louisiana sauce and shush.

I love Tex-Mex food but have been to a few dodgy ones in the past (mainly in Brighton) but the guys here really have hit the nail on the head in regards to food and service. Country music playing? Check. Servers dressed in cowboy hats and clothes? Yep! The amount of cowboy stereotypes were endless. And it's quite amusing. Especially for an American. We ordered some cocktails. I love a good Margarita. Unfortunately, these were not good. Way too sweet. So my partner and I switched to beer. They have a selection of American beers, if you like that sort of thing. They don't serve them by the pint though. They have bottles or 1/2 or 2/3 of a pint. Or 2 pints. Or 4 pints. So of course, 2 pints of beer each it is! We shared the nacho platter to start. Be warned: the nachos are massive. There were four of us, and it was a bit tough. But we got through. They're not amazing. Pretty standard in fact. Apparently they make their own tortilla chips. So kudos for that, but the toppings didn't wow me. My partner and I then split the Extravaganza feast for two. It came with ribs, wings (we opted to get the TNT Explosive wings because hot wings are amazing), fried mushrooms, onion rings, corn, coleslaw, beans and curly fries. Again, everything was fine. The best for me was the onion rings. The curly fries are fine, nothing better than any other I've had. The wings were definitely not Explosive, unfortunately. The ribs were fine, but were lacking something. At this point we were stuffed, so no dessert for us. Although we did see about six massive sundaes come out as people were there celebrating their birthdays. They looked good, but we were way too full. Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything here to wow me, and it didn't. The service is really good though as the server came back and asked us how we were on several occasions. Weirdly like being back in the states. Maybe that was the point.

A fun place for families. Food was delicious. My husband had the Steak & Fries I had the caramelized onion Burger, which I believe the cook brought right out to us. The fries were nice and hot. The steak was cooked perfectly my burger could have been cooked a bit longer to prevent so much of the meat juices from dripping. The waitstaff could be more inviting when you come into the restaurant. The first attempt to eat here the waitress apologized and said it would be a 40 minute wait as a trove of people arrived between 5 - 5:30 pm when we arrived. We told her we'd come back another time. Two days later we arrived around 4:30 ish, and the young lady from way behind the counter, without saying hello or welcome, pointed us to a table. Our assigned waitress was pleasant but we had to flag her down twice for more beverages, it wasn't really busy yet and three wait staff were talking amongst each other. In any case if you don't mind this type behavior this place will suit you, but if you're a large group it may be somewhat challenging to be waited on with a professional attitude. We stayed a week in lovely Brighton and the restaurant was across the street but we didn't bother trying this place for a third time.

It's also impeccably clean and the lighting is perfect for sitting down and reading my Kindle. That's what I was thinking... as I was about to have lunch with Sophie. This place is actually MASSIVE. I like plenty of space to breathe. I had plenty. Don't make the mistake of walking past with the assumption that you will be cramped up against another table. Before I visited, I had assumed that No 32 was nothing more than a middle-class cocktail bar that served a few nibbles. I was almost entirely wrong. I was having lunch with Sophie, a few tables away there were some 40 somethings having some kind of Christmas catch up across the room there was a woman sitting alone doing some work on her laptop. It's peaceful, I like it. The food is also A LOT better than I had expected it to be. I don't think No 32 is particularly well known for its food, but I'd highly recommend eating here if you're looking for a reasonable mid-priced lunch in the middle of town. Sophie and I shared a Classic Burger and Chicken and Chorizo Burger, both with fries. These were priced at £12 ish each. As far as Classic Beef burgers go, this was a 7/10. It's not Burger Bros tasty but it probably makes it into my top 5 favourite burgers in Brighton. The Chicken and Chorizo burger is a new favourite of mine. I'm going for 9/10. Could have done with a little bit more chorizo-ey sauce and a tad more moisture but it was really great. I'd go as far as saying this is in my top 3 for chicken burgers in Brighton. The fries were crispy AND soft. I have no idea how they have achieved this. It was a lovely lunch. I will go back, I will breathe easy, I will eat the chicken burger and I will enjoy reading.
