Had the best time paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake for the first time! I rented my equipment through TRC and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Don't be discouraged by the long rental lines; they're very efficient and it doesn't take long to get checked in and out on the water. There's a really nice area with picnic tables right off the dock and I had no concerns about leaving my bag there when I went out on the lake. They do provide life jackets but I'd recommend getting a waterproof cell phone pouch so you can get pics when you're out on the water! It was such a blast. It's parallel parking on both sides of the road and it seemed to be super busy when I was leaving around 6PM. Will definitely be using TRC for all kayaking and paddle board adventures in the future! read more

Third time here but came around 3:30 and that was perfect! Still had lots of good sun on a perfect day but no long lines at all. Parked right across from entrance on street which is $1 per hour until 6 pm M-F. Signed waiver, paid, put keys and wallet in a box that that stack behind counter (trusted them over hiding in car), life vest and paddle and to quick instruction and on the board we went. read more

Just in case you were wondering who that heaving, weaving mass of kayak was that seemed to be zig-zagging across Lady Bird Lake with the express intent of slicing an otherwise innocent paddler in half, well; that was me. This is due to at least a couple of factors. One: I managed to heed an alarm that told me that somehow it was an excellent idea to wake and get physically active out on a water mass at eight-thirty, and Two: I didn't figure out that I was really enjoying all of this until I noticed my surroundings. So I'll say this: where ever you're from, and whatever you're aim may be, take time to smell the visual roses (so to speak) if you happen to find yourself on a rowing expedition and don't overdo it on the way west (which is the direction that most launches happen)...bear in mind that you'll need to in turn row back east toward the dock, it's own challenge. Expect that you'll be wet and dress accordingly, expect that you'll need to stay right of the row teams who are churning down the middle of the drink, expect that it's at least somewhat likely that a wisenheimer among your extended group may compromise the balance of his boat to the entertainment of yours. And be safe. There, my friends, is a morning for the annals. read more

I have been waiting all summer for the temperatures to cool down so I could take the Pooch Paddle Class (a 2 hour class that teaches you how to safely paddle with your dog) that they offer once a month at 1PM. Today was the PERFECT day for the class except I got the date wrong. My Boss and I arrived at 1 PM with our Pups for the class only to find the class was not until tomorrow. We decided to brave the waters with our Pups on our own. The staff was very helpful in helping us and our dogs get into our kayaks and we were off.... Until Gracie decided to jump ship and Mia decided to join her... We rowed back to shore with our pups in tow and easily got them back on board. My Boss' Pup Gracie jumped out several more times and she was able to pull her 70LBS Pup back in without tipping over. I had so much fun and can't wait to get out on the water again soon - maybe tomorrow. Don't be scared about the waver you have to sign that holds them not responsible for "death, emotional injury, brain damage or paralysis".... If I can kayak for the first time with my Pup moving around, shaking off water and another dog trying to climb aboard - anyone can do it! If you plan to kayak with your dog bring a rubber backed mat for them to sit on. And bring cash - they only take cash. read more

The Texas Rowing Center in Austin provides friendly and efficient service for those looking to paddle board, kayak or canoe. They generously let me store my bag in their storage area, which saved me a trip back to the car. They are relatively strict with time deadlines, but are also able to be reasoned with, which is impressive considering the volume of customers they work with on a daily basis, especially during the summer. See my earlier review for why I am giving them one star. A couple of notes: I was surprised I kept getting debited for membership when I had only signed up for a year, or so I thought. Their current membership now renews after your minimum 6 or 12 month membership until you give 30 days notice (this is stated on their current membership form). I could swear it wasn't this way last year, I distinctly remember the deduction authorization I signed (separate from the membership form) was for a limited number of months, but I'd have to dig through several boxes to find it, so I might be mistaken. In any case Matt was nice enough to say he would cancel and give me a refund for the months past my year, so the point is moot for me. Also, he added this tidbit: "By the way, rowers who want to row after we close (typically 8 PM this time of year), can always request a key, which we will issue to experienced rowers". I'm a little surprised, I've never seen TRC oars on the water after sunset, but there you have it from the horse's mouth. read more

I absolutely loved Texas rowing center. Renting a Kayak was super cheap and easy. I believed it cost about $15 per hour to rent an individual Kayak. It was four of us and we had such a great time! We didn't even get tired of rowing, even though we were there 2 hours!. At one point I got hot and just jumped in the lake! I wouldn't recommend this if you can't swim as most of the lake is 12 feet deep, but it sure was fun! The guys at Texas Rowing center were very nice and helpful. One of them kept our stuff under the counter while we rowed, he did say they are not really supposed to, but we had walked so far! another one of the guys took my shoes from the deck and placed them under one of the picnic tables. Great experience and will definitely do it again and again and again (you get the point)! !!! read more

I have done SUP here and the Latino Serenade. SUP rentals are competitively priced. Getting your SUP from this location means that you have a great stretch of the river to explore. The Latino Serenade is pretty cool. It's held once a month on Fridays. You want to buy your ticket ahead of time. If you're going in pairs get a two-person kayak. A double kayak is $25. Make sure you reserve yours ahead of time online. Bring your own snacks and beverages. Also, in the summer a hat is handy as the water is really reflective and makes the Texas heat even more oppressive. This is good for families and people even bring their pups out. You can get up and dance on the barge with your partner. It's a fun time!!! read more

I came here for my first time paddleboarding and fell absolutely in love (after just moving here from Boston)... so I came back the next day and signed up for their 7 month unlimited membership (best decision ever!) Pros of membership: -They're the official rental place for SUPATX boards, so they have amazing equipment and lots of it - Membership comes with 3 2-hr rowing classes (awesome!) - you can take out anything you want (kayak, canoes, SUPs, crew boats, etc) - you can stay out as long as you want - you can check out multi-person canoes/kayaks/boats and go out with friends (they don't pay!)..for as long as you want - Oh yea, and you'll develop a toned and lean body in no time I mean seriously... why not prepare a delicious picnic, hook up with your best friend and your dog, and all three of you go out for an amazing kayaking trip towards Barton Springs. Now if that doesn't scream Sunday Funday, I don't know what does! read more

This is the place to go for kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals. Good prices, good equipment, good location, etc. But the GREAT thing that inspired me to write this review is the one employee that is hands down the best motivation for me running on the trail around the lake that I have ever had. This guy starts whooping it up when I am 20 yards away, cheering me on, and sticks up his elbow for a sorta-high-five move. The smile on me usually stays there for the remainder of my run (miles of smiles!). While this gentleman is in a wheelchair and has some physical disabilities, his spirit out there is what Austin is all about (or "should" be all about). Positivity. Enjoying the outdoors. Everybody is welcome. The best day ever. I feel all of those things when I run by, and a reminder of why I still think Austin is the greatest place to live (as an Aggie I have come to terms with this years ago LOL). We usually go to The Rowing Dock, and we should've stuck with that. Every single employee at this place was rude and lazy. When we asked if they had sunscreen to buy or borrow, a girl just rudely said "look behind you". Not to mention, the whole check-in process was a huge mess. You could probably just walk right up to the dock and demand a board without paying and no one would question you. Not to mention, no organization when it came to the lock-boxes. Anyone could just grab your personal items. The prices were insane as well. You get the choice of $25 for one hour or $40 for unlimited. Which seems like a steal, but why just those two options? No hourly rate? They want you to go to very specific spots to dock when you're done, because they're too lazy to help you or meet you where you're at. I was behind my husband but had a hard time stopping because I was trying to help my dog, so I went just a tad further down the dock. The asshole kid that was working just said "you'll have to turn all the way around and come back here. He was two steps away from me. It's would've been way easier for him to meet me where I was, than for me to turn my paddle board all the way around and get back in other people's way who were also trying to dock. My husband eventually stepped in and helped me since that kid was too entitled to do his job. JUST GO TO THE ROWING DOCK! They're 100% more present and organized. They take your ID to lock up your items, so only you can check them out. TX Rowing Center is terrible. read more

I love that this place is a little further from Zilker, it's much less crowded and easier to get a boat. I rented a SUP and my friend rented a kayak for a great day on the lake. Staff is helpful and efficient getting you in and out of the water. One of the cheaper places to rent as well! read more

Stand up paddleboarding is a must do in ATX! Pros: -$20/hour but no one is strictly timing you so as long as you have an approx time, it'll be ok -they have a small box for you to put your wallet/phone -beautiful scenery and the water feels great for a hot day -$20/hr per paddleboard is a bit pricey Cons: -gets pretty busy/hectic (didn't know where to pick up our boards/no one was directing people) -they should probably invest in new life vests -need more staff to help customers get on/off -parallel parking Recommended! I purchased a Groupon for this place. I was not disappointed. The staff was friendly and informative. The equipment was in good condition. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the activity. The Groupon was for a two hour canoe rental for two people for $31. That's a $9 savings. I would definitely use this company again although I'd rather kayak. The Kayaks have back support and feel sturdier on the water. However, if we were going to fish and brought drinks and snacks the canoe would be a good choice because it's so roomy. This place was so cool! These cats really know what's up! They have a streamlined process and handle so much business and always seem cool and calm. I usually come with some friends who rent because I bring my own paddleboard and they let me put out right on their dock. Their prices are really reasonable, and they aren't ... up your butt about the rules.... We saw 30,000 turtles around the lake-how freakin cool is that!! the water out there is really flat because it's mostly paddlers. read more

We made an appointment, got the cash, and came all the way downtown from Cedar Park to have the guy working say "We sold out" and walked away. Shady business practice and waste of my time. We've gone to ARC for years and have rented kayaks and SUPs from them. The last two summers my boys have attended their Rowing Camp. Whether it be rentals or camp we have always had the best service, friendly staff, awesome fun-filled activities, and safe equipment. I only recommend this place to everyone who visits. It's right on the downtown trail which is perfect to bike or walk to if you can't drive. This is must-do experience in Austin!! read more

The lady was very nice when we got there. Their equipment feels a bit on the cheap side though. There are holes in the kayak so you have a good chance of getting wet. I still had a lot of fun, but I have been to other kayak rentals and I didnt get wet at all because I believe their kayaks were better quality and no holes on the bottom. The area where they're located on the river is very nice though. The view of the skyline and trees is just breathtaking. I went when the sun was almost setting and if you go to the right from where you start, you can watch the sunset on your way back where the river forks off. read more

We love to start our river experience here. Nice staff - clean and cared for equipment!

Started out promising. Beautiful spot, quick service. Did a double kayak and started off smooth. Turns out a plug was left off the boat and caused it to take on water. The boat capsized after about a half a mile of rowing and were unable to use the kayak as it kept sinking. Took 45 minutes to get any help despite calling 4 times as we floated incapacitated in the water. Asked for a refund and were told the best they could do was a gift certificate which we promptly gave away as were not from the area and would not come back. read more

My go to place to get on the river. I usually hang around the Barton Creek Springs pool area and they have a company out there but it's tucked in a small part of the river so takes some time to actually get into the main river area. This place gets you on right on the river so turn right, your view will be just beautiful nature or turn left and you'll view nature meeting Austin downtown. It's the way I go, make it to the bridge and turn around for a one hour rental. They've got kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. The paddle boards are $15 an hour on weekday and $20 an hour on the weekends. You'll have to give them some type of collateral when you rent like keys or ID or whatever. It can get busy around that area as it intersects with a hike and bike trail but the line moves pretty quick and you'll be in the water! Btw, swimming and jumping in the water is prohibited! Oh and they have a picnic table area to leave your shoes and belongings that aren't valuable. read more
