We rented a double kayak for $15 and paddled around and around. They held our wallets and things so that we wouldn't drop anything while out in the river. Best of all, the rental center is located right on the trail by the river, so if your horrible, incompetent cab driver takes you to a random incorrect spot, you can still walk over to the kayaks and then walk back to downtown. read more

Kayaking is probably one of my favorite things to do in Austin when I'm here for a visit. It's sad, really, considering I was at UT for five and a half year and never went. I only discovered it after I graduated and moved back to Houston. I'm no pro kayaker so I probably can't tell the difference between a good kayak or a bad one. If it floats and moves when I paddle, that's good enough for me. I do agree with a few others that have said that service is pretty crappy here. Definitely not a place to come to if you're new and like to ask a lot of questions. Just sign your form, pay, and get on a kayak. I own a kayak but have been here many times with my friend so that she can rent one. She normally gets a Groupon for an all day rental for $15. Not a bad deal! Hauling your own kayak here can be a bit of a challenge since you have to carry it across the hike and bike trail, but it's doable, especially with the help of a friend. Parking on Sundays is pretty limited because they hold church at the school across the street. Other than that, launching here is easy and the $15 deal is hard to beat. read more

They were not helpful at all. No one confirmed payment. No one confirmed the time that we left/got back from the dock. My nephew was so confused, even after he'd asked for some help. Luckily we'd done SUP 3 times before, and could teach him. Very disorganized place. Also, the "locking" area for valuables was not even locked. Our clothing/water bottles were left out in the sun while we were gone, and it was impossibly hot putting our shoes on when we got back. Our friends that went with us said that they'd go back the next weekend, and just walk out there, grab a board and go, since the staff doesn't give a rat's ass who paid, who has a life jacket, and who just stole their board. read more

Came here to go stand-up paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake with some friends. It was a lot of fun but the only things I would mention is that it gets really busy. The paddleboards are readily available and paying/getting your equipment doesn't take long. The thing that bothered me was that the paddleboards were a bit worn out and old. The reason that matters is because they are made of fiberglass. If you are lying on the paddleboards at any time with your skin in contact with the fiberglass, you will be in for a surprise a few hours later when you're dried off at home and your skin begins to itch. This happened to both a friend of mine and me. Advice, try and get one of the newer looking paddleboards in order to avoid this problem. They should also look into buying some new ones as well... Other than that, I had a great time and got some great pics/videos with my GoPro! read more

I recently signed up for rowing lessons and immediately became a member. I received 3 lessons (you are in the boat in the very first lesson) and then was ready to go out on my own. My experience was that the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful; and really care about their clientele...AND learning to row and being out on the water has been awesome. I can't believe that I have lived in Austin for this long and have never learned to row! I also really enjoy the SUP and look forward to kayaking soon - all of this is included with a membership, and membership is cheaper than most gyms. read more

Went with my cousin so she could attempt to rent a SUP and try it out. I have a board and paddled down to the dock while she went to rent one. She was pretty much looked down on because her 2 year old was being impatient about getting on the water. No one could give her straight answers. She left feeling as if she wasn't hip(ster) enough for this establishment and gave up on attempting to rent a board. I ended up letting her try my board (she loved it). We will be trying out another rental business that is open to FAMILIES. read more

Went to Austin for the weekend and decided to start the weekend kayaking with friends. Came here on a Friday night at 5PM (they close at 7PM) and it was humid/rainy that day. We came at the perfect time where it was not raining and it wasn't even busy. The prices are pretty good; $20/hour for a double kayak. The workers are really nice and accommodating to their guests and were attentive to us whenever we were getting on and off the kayak. One cool thing is that there was a swan that was on the deck that I got to take a picture with. Also, the river water isn't that clean and smells whenever you get wet, but that obviously wouldn't be a reason to why I would give this company a 4/5. Overall, I recommend this place if you are planning on kayaking/yoloing/whatever in the water at Austin! PS. no swimming is allowed read more

We decided to go here because their hours were more extensive than other places. Their kayaks are in good condition, reasonably priced, good location, the whole process was fast and simple. We went back the next day at 6:30 and were told they were closed for the day, even though their hours are listed as closing at 8. Some guy told us he would give us a free rental coupon for tomorrow, which was pointless because it was our last day in town. We told him this and he said he would let us go out for 30 minutes to which I asked if we would still have to pay for the whole hour. He proceeded to start talking to someone else and just walked away leaving me standing there like an idiot, rude. Makes me consider not going back, how are you going to just walk away from a customer? Rude. read more

i went kayaking on town lake for the first time today with my cousin, and it was a blast! we rented a double kayak for $15/hr. they held our phone/keys after collecting our waivers, and then we got set up with a life vest, oar and our kayak! make sure to wear shoes/bottoms that you don't mind getting wet because water naturally gets in the kayak. we went from the dock towards the lamar pedestrian bridge, stopping at a little cove near the hike/bike trail entrance on riverside. it was extremely peaceful to be on the water and definitely an arm work out! in the cove, i couldn't stop singing "kiss the girl" from the little mermaid because that's exactly what it was like :) on the way back we passed by the most beautiful swan, and it was just a magical experience overall. the staff were great and super friendly, they even snapped our picture beforehand. i'll definitely be back! read more

We had a great time! Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. No complaints...for us it was just a day of leisurely kayaking down Lady Bird Lake and over to Barton Springs (which was super cool). I mean - if you don't sink or take anything on the lake with you that might get water damaged - there's not much to complain about. I usually go to another kayaking place, but decided to mix it up this time since this place appeared to be cheaper. The check in/check out process is a mess here. You line up and pay for an hour or unlimited, then they take your items and put them in a box and you write the number on your hand with a Sharpie. After the long check in line and the cashier lady being unable to subtract and make the correct change without our help, we hopped in and went out. We paid for an hour, but it's pretty hard to keep track of that so we ended up staying out for two hours. So, when we got back we had to pay for an extra hour, so we had to get back in line and wait to pay. When we got up there, the price was double for two hours, which sort of makes sense, except that 2 hours comes out to be the same price as unlimited for the whole day. So, for one paddle board and one single kayak, we spent $70 for two hours. The whole setup is just poorly done. Most places, you give them your ID, they write down the time, then you pay at the end. Instead, this system made the place crowded and confusing and at the end you just felt like you spent a lot of money for a little bit of time. I definitely will be returning to my previous spot instead in the future. read more

I got a travel zoo coupon for 2 hours of kayak or stand up paddle for $15...what a great deal! we ended up kayaking for 1 hour and stand up paddling for 45 mins. the guy at the dock didn't have a problem with us switching between the two. there is not really any instruction, but its not rocket science. my complaints are the parking situation (on the street and a long walk if the place is busy) and no where to change clothes except for port a potties (gross). read more

We arrived early (0830) on a Saturday, which seemed to be a really good call. We didn't have to wait in line for anything: waiver signing, payment, kayak retrieval. Came on a Tuesday morning in June. Beautiful way to enjoy the gorgeous summer weather! We rented a double kayak for only $15/hour, paddles and life jackets included. Plenty of free parking on the street. They need one item to keep as collateral, like car keys, and will put it in a little plastic box (smaller than a shoe box) behind the desk. You just need to remember your box #. Not sure I would leave valuables there but we had no problem upon return. It can get crazy with different camp groups coming in after 10 so try to get there before 10 to avoid the chaos. There is someone to help you launch but don't expect help upon return as the camp groups can overwhelm the place. It does get hot out on the water so have a hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen ready. Both fun and relaxing! read more

When we got down to the dock they put my daughter in one kayak but the man down there saw a was a little unsteady. He pulled out a different kayak that was a dream with steadiness! Great way to beat the heat. We had a group of 8 on a Sunday afternoon and had no problems getting in and on the water. Location is nice. It was easy to find and navigate to. Beautiful park surroundings, lots of activity. The parking area can be really busy so watch your young ones. The rowing center was busy but the short line was quickly sifted thru and everyone was on the water in no time. The staff was really friendly and helpful. We never felt rushed and they were always willing to help. Rental equipment was in good shape and there was plenty of it. 8 first timers to SUP and no problems at all. The lake offered tons of space to paddle. Amazing views of Austin that you normally wouldnt see. We paddled out to the Barton Springs inlet and all the way to the backside of Barton Springs pool. Lots of wildlife to see and the water was super clear and cold. We dove in to cool off several times and the experience was awesome. Would def recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful city. read more

I rented from here Friday. I liked the prices. A little busy and low on staff for the amount of business they seem to have. The area they are located is great for me as its close to work, the bike trail, and has an area that most people do not go down so you can relax. There was a couple that was having trouble getting back when I got there. It did take them about 30 minutes to get down there (again with low on staff being the issue) but they did come down and get them with the motorboat. I got a 6 month permit last night, I think it will pay for itself. read more

I used to be a member of TRC a few years back. I decided to check it out again. When I stopped by to ask a few questions about membership, I remembered one of the reasons why I left. I was told to ask the man instructing SUP patrons for details. I waited at the dock while he was working with a couple. He seemed to acknowledge me (at least he looked right at me). When finished he walked right by me and proceeded to the counter. I got up and followed him. Two young women walked up just before I got there and he started with them. While they were filling out paper work he looked at me. I said hello. No reply. I told him another employee had sent me to him for questions. No reply. I asked him if I needed to take an introductory class since I hadn't rowed in a few years. Curt would be kind to describe his response, at least what I could make out of his huffing. His treatment of the two ladies wasn't better. It was aggressive disregard. Then I remembered this treatment from before. I would never recommend anyone ever using this facility. I have never been treated with such contempt in any customer service situation. read more
