Our server was warm, attentive, and seemed to anticipate what we needed before we asked. The space has that familiar barbecue joint look. Nothing fancy, just comfortable and family friendly. Noise level sat right in the middle, lively but not overwhelming, and no one rushed us even as we lingered, laughed, and took more photos than necessary. I ordered the Pitmaster Plate with North Carolina chopped barbecue. You can choose sliced, chunky, or chopped. The pork was tender, flavorful, and exactly the slightly vinegary flavor I love. I added collard greens, coleslaw, and sweet potato casserole. The greens had a slight kick but were balanced. The coleslaw was fresh and necessary alongside the barbecue. The sweet potato casserole was easily the standout side. The only drawback is portioning on the sides. They are a bit small, especially if you are planning leftovers. I went in hoping to stretch this into multiple meals and almost made it. Still worth it, just manage expectations. Also worth noting, bread does not come with the plate, so I added rolls. My total came to about $31 with the automatic gratuity for larger groups, and I added a little extra. For the quality, service, and portion of barbecue, that feels more than fair. Everything was consistently good, and the experience made it even better. Great spot for groups, easygoing, and welcoming. I will be back. Must order: Pitmaster plate with chopped pork and sweet potato casserole Heads up: Sides run small and bread is not included

Back to the kitchen they went. My main dish was the brisket sandwich and honestly I don't know what kind of glued meat was on that bread but it wasn't smoked brisket. The Mac and cheese and cole slaw were great though. The service from our waitress was great, though the fellas at the hostess stand are a bit all over the place and don't exercise detailed thinking in seating. Piling people together while open seats for better experiences are available. I won't be back but if a retirement home had a field trip this could be a pit stop.

We were seated upstairs in a front corner room, that was very cramped, and crowded with other tables, and apparently to make it possible to fit as many tables as they had, they were incredibly narrow. My wife and I went with another couple, and the tables were so small, the entire time, our we were bumping knees with our friends...very awkward. Additionally the front room tables don't have any of the vintage gaming systems that we've come to enjoy playing on past visits. Waitstaff were ok, but again, not as outgoing, or attentive as past visits. I honestly feel this front room is easily forgotten by even the staff. On this visit I got the brisket with hushpuppies as a side. The brisket was good, I do wish I'd gotten a different side, the hushpuppies were good, but got heavy after a bit, and made me feel a bit sluggish. In general, from past experience, the food is always great, and so is the service. I'll chock this visit up to bad day, I'm sure i'll be back to give them another try

Watered down sauce or bad bbq soaking in sauce when they defrosted the Sysco or Costco tub. Collard greens should sue this place for defamation b/c if this was your first time eating them, you would swear they were flavorless (like not even salt and pepper) the pot liquor was water. The Mac and cheese was advertised as "3 cheese" but it should have been called "not 3 flecks of seasoning Mac and mild cheese". They used a béchamel but they need a sharper cheese (1 of the 3) and salt. Is there a moratorium on salt in Winston Salem? The baked beans were straight out the can. They had the nerve to add on the menu "sides may contain meat" the lies they told. These beans didn't even have the fat from the can but they came straight from the can. Nasty The Cole slaw was straight from Sam's club and nasty. Only good times: the hush puppies (if you like sweet, I do) and the sausage was decent but not great. Needless to say, never coming back here. I think k it's more bar than eatery so the drunks roaming the downtown will enjoy. Ppl with functioning and sober taste buds, save your money.

I chose their original sauce, by far the best selection for the brisket. As usual the to go order was out quickly, just over 10 minutes, and I was on my way, with my meal securely packaged. These folks do a great job filling your order quickly and accurately, and for a reasonable price - things that used to be so common at restaurants stretching from hot dog joints to steak houses - pretty rare these days! This was the typical excellent meal from Honky Tonk - the brisket was very nice, made very special by their original BBQ sauce; the Brisket Chili had its own full smoky taste, with beans included, but apparently no onions; and the collards are good but not great - more sweetness than I care for, no sign of meat onions, or cabbage. I drain the liquid that comes with the collard and add a healthy doses of red wine vinegar and Texas Pete. The sausage included cheddar and jalapeños, and packed a nice spice level. This would be nice served a full length on a hot dog bun with a stout mustard. This Tue and Wed promise to be rather cool, will consider another visit for the Brunswick Stew, more good stuff!

I have a rule to never eat in my automobile. Not many option where people do eat in their car.Wooden stumps to side of place to sit but too hot for that.
