Update 5/3/18 Texas Oncology has really come around and done everything to make things right. I am now under the care of Dr Knowles who is amazing!!!! The office staff Patricia, Cassie and Dr Knowles nurse Lindsay have been amazing! Being diagnosed with cancer is tough and super scary but these ladies have been great and patient. The Business Manager Adrian started the ball rolling of making a not so good first impression become a team of people I trust. I was refused to be treated/seen in the office for Dr Eshed because we are self pay but have a medical share program through Liberty Health Share. I talked to corporate and they said that is not at all the policy. I was just diagnosed and quite scared. The gal who called me was so indifferent and rude. Scheduling is a nightmare! It's been over a month and they can't get me scheduled when I have a scary test result! The people who answer the scheduling phones say they can't schedule you because they don't have correct computer permissions and that a scheduler will have to call you back in 24-48 hours. If you ask them to leave you a voice message with your appointment date and time, when they call you back, they won't do it. They'll just hang up and not even leave you a message. Then you get to start the whole scheduling process over again, like you never called the first time and like they never screwed up, and this is regarding cancer, so we're all actively dying while waiting for an appointment. I highly recommend finding a different cancer clinic. This one is the worst! read more

Still waiting after almost 2 weeks for the "scheduler" to call me back regarding my mother's referral. They have indicated to me that they have received the referral but only one "scheduler" can make the appointment. I sure hope her cancer is "slow-growing" with the time that trying to connect with this person is taking. If you visit Tx Onc Central, you will realize that they have way too many patients, it is always crowded, and the employees are grumpy, understandably. The checkout people don't want to help you and will just let you stand there until one of their co-workers is available. The oncologist actually asked me "did I order that test?" when I asked about the grim results. He had to pull them up on his computer and review them for the first time with us standing there in the exam room at the follow-up appointment. Would not recommend. read more

I met Dr. Eshed at St. David's Emergency Room after being admitted for a dermoid teratoma cyst on my right ovary (23cm) she was very informative and patient. Very prompt with scheduling my much needed surgery (that I had been putting off for years out of fear) I was able to get it done the following week at Senton and 2 weeks later I met her at her office with was very nice with the Starbucks machine and got the staples removed. read more

Unbelievably unresponsive. Radiologist referred us to their social worker for counseling referral - left 3 voice mails ans 1 email - she never responded. Have been calling for 3 days trying to set followup appointment for brain scan - operator even 'escalated' the call today - still no call back. The last 2 days I've also been asking for a nurse to call since spouse took to bed, but no return call. General perception is none of them care about you. And these are Cancer doctors! read more

Amazing team of doctors and nurse. All of them are super friendly. They check the temperature at building entrance and parking lot elevator entrance. Social distancing enforced. I had seen Dr. Chadha a couple of years ago for some hematology questions and he was great. My general practitioner sent a referral over to Texas Oncology on 9/1/21 for a review of some recent blood work. Initially, I was told they did not have my referral and I had to send it again. I have been trying to get someone, anyone to call me back to make an appointment since then. I must have called at least 10 times. Either no one would answer the call or I would get routed to some appointment desk and never got a call back. When I initially complained, Adrianne called me back. He was great until he told me he only handles NEW patients and I had to speak with another appointment desk who does previous patients. I left several messages for them and no response. I asked for a supervisor and was sent to Maria. I left 2-3 messages for her..no response, although her voice says she will return messages in the same business day unless after 4pm. I have completely given up and will ask for a referral someplace else. I feel sad for someone who has cancer and is trying to make an appointment to see this team. I thought the key to cancer treatment is speed/immediate treatment?? Not here.. read more

After my PE I was referred to this clinic, my first appointment was me paying my copay for ZERO medical advice. My second appointment was 3MONTHS later and no one called to confirm, then morning of I was told they had forgotten to order my labs. Then I was told to rush to the lab center and go get my blood drawn, upon arrival I had to wait behind 10 other patients when I was told to Kip the front desk and head back to labs. This is the WORST service I have ever received from a health care provider. They don't care about their patients and have ZERO concern for peoples time. read more

I saw Dr Jane Chawla at this facility for a bit over a year. For several years, my blood counts had been significantly abnormal, particularly my white blood cells. Dr Chawla continuously told me the blood levels were "nothing to worry about", and set future appointments far apart - I don't believe she ever took my case seriously. Shortly after this, I was able to see Dr Jennifer Wright at Tx Oncology South.. Dr Wright saw the pattern - which was also available for Dr Chawla to see - and shortly afterwards diagnosed me with a rare blood cancer. Multiple medical tests supported the diagnosis. The cancer I have is Myelofibrosis. Dr Chawla and her support staff totally blew me off, allowing the cancer to more firmly take hold within me. I believe they quickly categorized my case as 'not serious'. For shame! read more

Very disappointed. My mom had blood work at 2:00 w a 2:30 Dr appt. Its almost two hours after her dr appt was scheduled and over 2 hours since she has been here and still waiting. This is crazy and unacceptable. She is tired from the chemo pills and waiting so long is ridiculous. They need to get their crap together read more

Thank Dr Teneriello who is always saving my life from this terrible ovarian cancer. He always try to let me know I can still try to live a normal life regardless of cancer. Although not everyday is perfect and it has been a journey from hell and back. I'm still here and have made great strides. Working through some pain and on maintenance therapy, but I'm alive. Dr. Chawla is a butcher. My friend Ed had metastatic lung cancer; we did not expect him to survive (nor did he), but he was given 6 months in early January, and he died two days ago (mid-February) - because that idiot Chawla (who has a background in blood, not lung, cancer) prescribed heavy brain radiation for two mets in his brain (every day, two weeks) then SENT HIM HOME - a 69 year old diabetic. The swelling in his brain made him unable to speak, let alone care for himself. Did she evaluate him as this progressed? No - no doctor did. Then they gave him chemo on Monday. When he landed in the hospital the following weekend, she was mighty puzzled, and just said that his body couldn't take the treatment, she guessed. Idiot. Here's my advice, people: GO TO MD ANDERSON IN HOUSTON. read more

I don't like this place and i don't trust these doctors Hudson, oncologist, Wiatrek, surgeon, Neuwish, radiologist. They don't explain well and throw grenades with concerns just as the visit is over, leaving you with many more questions for a follow up appointment and another copay. Too many mistakes, too little support for patients. They even force you to have an appointment with a social worker for her to explain hormonal medication. The explanation consisted of a web printout, something the dr. should have done. Stay away. There are better doctors at other locations. They overbill frequently and don't include payments made. Front desks are ypically grouchy and rude. read more

Waiting room like cattle herded into a pen. Staff slow and unresponsive. I've had experience with Tx Onc before. Out of three doctors only one was truthful and forthright. Other two were awful. The last one said he had no idea how the treatment plan was working because my chart had not been updated for six months, even though I had monthly appointments. Never again. read more

I was referred in to see dr. Chadha because my white blood cell count was very high. I went in to see him and he agreed that I needed to have more tests run and he looked at me and said "you need to be worried but I'm going on vacation so I'll see you in two weeks" So I went in to get my blood work done and the reception called afterword to let me know that I wouldn't be getting my results for three weeks now because of this doctors vacation. At this point I said screw it and flew out to Arizona to go to Mayo Clinic where I was diagnosed the day I got there with the test result from Dr. Chadha's office. This was negligent, unethical and lacked humanity on Chadha's part. His office could and should have notified me the second they got my results back. I got lucky in the fact that the cancer I do have is slow moving but if this had been any other type I would be dead right now because this doctor failed to contact me or pass along my case to another doctor while he went on vacation. Round Rock location-- CHEMO FARM. While cancer certainly sucks, and ultimately, what really matters is the end result and healing but I was appalled by the large room where everyone get there chemo at the same time. There are 35 chairs squeezed into a large room with nurses running around. It's not the most comfortable place and you are going to be spending some time there! The large room is so cramped and crowded. There is absolutely no privacy (umm, HIPAA???) and it seems so depressing to be in a room with so many other cancer patients. Some of the patients are clearly terminal or much worse off. And how about germs? Doesn't seem right to subject immuno-compromised patients with so many other people. I was impressed with the compassionate doctor, but geez, this medical group is raking it in and they should lease more space! Cancer patients deserve better! read more

It's hard to write this review. There are so many good people at Texas Oncology on Balcones doing really vital work. My friend was cared for here through two rounds of breast cancer, the second of which killed her 6 months from diagnosis. I was her companion at all visits. I often felt her primary oncologist minimized her concerns and did not ask her questions with any interest in her answers. I was actively discouraged from advocating for her. Her primary oncologist was aloof and provided no easy way for me or my friend to contact her for information outside of appointments. When my friend inquired about second opinions her primary oncologist was defensive and unhelpful. After an ill-advised surgery that my friend's primary oncologist pushed my friend into triggered catastrophic tumor growth my friend was sent home to die with minimal support from Texas Oncology. After telling my friend to enter into hospice her primary oncologist never once checked to make sure she had the medical support and resources to die with dignity. I would never recommend this office to anyone attempting to survive a cancer diagnosis. read more

A few years ago my wife was diagnosed with a serious form of breast cancer. At the time, her sister was fighting her third recurrence of the same thing. My wife had surgery and afterward she went to Texas Oncology for chemotherapy. Her oncologist, Doctor Kasper, was patient and careful about explaining all of my wife's options for treatment. It's pretty damn scary. You know you're sick with something that could kill you. You also know all the treatment options will definitely make you sicker before you get better, and you won't necessarily get better either. We talked to other oncologists but thought Doctor Kasper was the best. My wife ended up having five months of the most aggressive of possible treatments. We were there almost every week. I expected the chemo room to be a brutally depressing place, but it wasn't. My wife sat in a big, comfortable chair during treatment. There were multiple TVs per section of the room, and you could control the channel and listen over headphones. A volunteer wandered around with a food cart -- cookies, sometimes doughnuts or breakfast tacos -- and water bottles. I sat with her and worked on my laptop (they had Wifi too). Everyone there was great: the nurses, the receptionist, the volunteers , everybody. It wasn't a walk in the park for my wife or for our family, but Texas Oncology made a hard situation manageable. My wife's been off chemo for over two and a half years and she's doing great. I doubt you came to Yelp to read about oncologists, but if you did, don't give up hope. People go beyond cancer and get on with their lives. Doctor Kasper and the rest of the folks at Texas Oncology came through for us. Two thumbs up. read more

I was referred to Dr. Knowles for a consultation following a different surgery that raised some questions about an enlarged ovary with a tumor. It turned out that the tumor and ovary were borderline cancerous and had to go. Dr. Knowles scheduled the surgery ASAP and I felt very well prepared for it. She explained exactly what was going on in a way that I understood and listened to my concerns. She was compassionate and professional. After my surgery, I was in some pain and her nurses really went the extra mile to squeeze in an appointment for me immediately and get me taken care of. I gained quite a bit of weight (15 lbs.) after surgery, surely partly due to the bed rest and comfort foods involved following a partial hysterectomy. When I whined about it to Dr. Knowles (knowing that there were other doctors more well-suited to help me map out a solution) she brightly answered that she had recently been away to a conference on obesity and seemed eager to share what she'd learned. I took her advice and am down 12 lbs.! I'm excited for my next appointment so that I can show off my results. Dr. Knowles is an excellent surgeon and doctor and a wonderful human being. I'm so thankful that she and her staff were there for me when I needed them. read more

I've had the unfortunate pleasure of developing quite a close bond with this place. I was diagnosed with Stage III cancer in Feb. 07. Compassion does not even scratch the surface. Dr. Michael Kasper literally saved my life, and the rest of the staff are incredible. My treatment was conservative (they said a hospital stay might be necessary when I felt just "sort of" bad) and state-of-the-art, and though chemo is pretty rough, they offered plenty of things to keep me comfortable. The divas in the chemo room are awesome. Bobby, Rachel, Pat, they're all great. Erica the scheduler is a miracle worker. The financial people spotted mistakes from my insurance company, and helped me get a refund. Lotta love going on over there. read more

After hearing for the second time in 10 years I had a cancer - yet not related to one another - I thought I was going to have to haul my ass down to Houston and deal with MD Anderson. I ended up at Texas Oncology with Dr. Knowles who specialized in OBGYN related cancers. It's an emotional, life stopping event that no one can relate to unless you are actually going through it. I felt so taken care of from the start. Everyone I encountered was genuinely compassionate and didn't make me feel like "that poor girl". I actually felt more confident I would get through this cancer bout than I did my first run back in 1997 - not just because of location but because of the staff and doctors. I hope I never have to visit this place again outside of check-ups but if I do - I know I will be in great hands with vbery qualified people. read more

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. She has had a remarkable recovery from surgery, but it has nothing to do with Texas Oncology. She will have to have some chemo so we got an appt with a doc at this clinic since it's the closest option for us. What a headache! They have more than one nurse for each doctor and no one communicates with each other. To make a long story short, they constantly tried to schedule my wife for treatments she either didn't need at all, or won't need for several months. They were very aggressive trying to get us to schedule saying things like "we don't know when we'll be able to get you in again if you don't take this appointment now." I've never heard of a med clinic using hard-sell tactics, but these guys do. Bad communication and the lack of individualized care are reasons enough to avoid this place. How can you trust your life with a clinic who can't even keep accurate records? read more

This is a top rate institution (Balcones Dr. location). My father was a regular patient here for the past 4.5 years, before he passed away. I came with him for many doctor's visits, radiation appointments, and treatment appointments. The staff here is attentive, caring, and always on the ball. They've got a CT scan machine on-site and have a PET scanner. This cuts down on time and hassle that would be spent making appointments in other places. At one point, my father switched health insurance providers, and his new provider dragged their feet in issuing him prescription coverage card. The pharmacist did what she could to minimize our out-of-pocket costs. When he finally got the card, we went into give her a copy of it, asking for advice on how to submit our out-of-pocket claims to the health insurance. She had not billed us for any of it, and said that she would submit the claims and take care of all of it, saving us a lot of hassle and work. At one point, my father had a large growth that was becoming uncomfortable and affecting his breathing. He went in twice for the radiation treatment (Thursday and Friday), and Dr. Nuesch and his staff opened up the clinic on Saturday and Sunday to give my father and a couple other patients radiation treatment. I've never seen such initiative in healthcare before. Dr. Kasper, my father's oncologist, was similarly always attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. The entire staff is always friendly and smiling. My father was an engineer who ran a manufacturing plant, and he was always impressed with the way this clinic was run. This is an exemplary example of healthcare. They've got a good thing going here. read more

I came to Texas Oncology because I was diagnosed with cancer (well duh) but I feel so positive because of this place. Everyone - the patients, the staff, the visitors are all part of your team. Cancer is scarey and life-changing but the people at Texas Oncology really care. I started working with Dr. Lynne Knowles and I'm so happy I did. She's hands down wonderful. I start chemo next week and TO provided me with a nurse practioner who went over everything - from what to expect, how to handle the side effects, places to go for support and easy to find phone numbers. These people involve you in your program and encourage you to think positive. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they are. I cannot thank them enough no matter what the outcome - they have made me feel like I can do anything. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Texas Oncology. I first became a patient in late 2009 after my previous oncologist couldn't diagnose my cancer. During my first appointment, Dr. Kasper saw me after hours and spent nearly 2 hours with me formulating a plan to figure the cancer out. That was December 2009. By late February 2010 I was in remission. Nearly 5 years to the day of my first treatment back in 2010 I am again back at Texas Oncology. This time the cancer is much more serious. Again, Kasper very methodically formulated a plan, and within 3 weeks of diagnoses I was having my first chemo treatment. All of his staff are first class. He has a nurse practitioner who has been incredible in my treatment. Every single infusion nurse has treated me with care, compassion, and the utmost professionalism. I have two more weeks of chemo on this round of cancer. I feel pretty sure in a couple of years I will have to come back. I won't go anywhere other than Texas Oncology. read more

My OBGYN recommended that I see Dr. Eshed as a small mass near my right ovary. The OBGYN said that Dr. Eshed was a surgeon and could remove it quickly with a laparoscopic surgery. I visited her on a Tuesday morning during the pandemic. Before she even touched me she told me that it was probable that the mass could be a cyst that was noncancerous but that there was a likelihood that it could be cancer and that I could have cancer throughout my entire abdomen which would require removal of my uterus, ovaries, tubes, and lymph nodes in addition to a lower lining near my stomach area. When she did then examine me she just went right in with no verbal cuing. I felt violated. I said so. I let her know that I was a survivor of sexual abuse, and that she should have told me what she was doing before just going in. She took her finger out then apologized. I gave her permission to continue with the exam as I wanted it to be over. She told me that she could feel fibroids but that I had nothing on my rectum. No mass. Which was good news. But that I should not take it as so positive. There was bloodwork to be done. We also scheduled a CT scan with dye for that Friday morning. The next day, Wednesday, I received a call from her nurse. First, two of the three blood tests had come in. One was normal and one was high showing inflammation. We were still waiting on the third. We also scheduled a virtual call with Dr. Eshed for the following Tuesday to let me know about the CT scan results. Then, Dr. Eshed called, that I needed to schedule a full hysterectomy with her the following Wednesday because two of the three tests came back high and that it was certain that I had cancer throughout my entire abdomen and that every thing needed to come out. I calmly asked her why we would do that when the reason that I came to see her was to have a mass removed and that we needed to see exactly where it was and that the only thing that would tell us that was a CT scan, which I had not had yet. I said that the most prudent next step would be to look at the results of the CT scan because that would provide more information about the mass as well as if there was cancer. She sighed and agreed with me. I took the scan that Friday. The following Tuesday I met her virtually to receive the results of the scan. She began by telling me that she could not find the mass that the tech from the OBGYN office said was there. In fact, all that she saw were fibroids. She said that the only way to know if I had cancer was to go in and that the best next step would be to have a full hysterectomy and while I was under to have a pathologist check to see if the uterus or ovaries had cancer. That she would need to do a cut straight down the middle of my belly in order to remove the uterus as she would need to take it intact with the fibroids all together. She did not want the cancer to spread. And that she would remove my lymph nodes and a lining at the bottom of my stomach to prevent the cancer from spreading. I asked her to clarify if she saw cancer on the CT scan. She said that she could not see evidence of it on my ovaries or uterus or the fibroids. I then asked her what would give her more information and she said an MRI. I had the MRI done and scheduled a virtual follow-up with her. During that last virtual follow-up I asked her if she saw any cancer on the MRI, now that she had it with the CT Scan. She said no. That the MRI showed fibroids but nothing else. But that she still recommended a full hysterectomy and removing the uterus through a cut from the bottom of my sternum all the way down my belly to my pelvic bone. I said no. Fast forward four months and after changing my diet, doing yoga every day, meditating more, changing my lifestyle and resting and seeing two other doctors---no cancer and no mass. Just fibroids. And those blood tests--took them again and the result came back all within normal range, in fact, low normal range. She was wrong. She misdiagnosed my body. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Michael Kapser for 6 months. The entire staff - PAs, schedulers, receptionists, infusion nurses, and the rest - have been wonderful people and easy to work with. I've an extremely rare form of melanoma, so have lots of questions, but they answer them all, including those about the "helpful" remedies my friends have passed along (bungee jump with koala poo in your socks - guaranteed!). Scheduling can be tough, but no worse than with the other half-dozen doctors I'm seeing. (Always try to get the earliest appointment time possible to minimize waiting; they do back up ridiculously!) Everyone asks why I don't go to Houston for a second opinion, but I've interrogated my doctors, done my own research, and am confident the care I'm getting is the best available. It has been 2 days and I have been trying to make an appointment and 3 left voice mails and 4 times talking to the operator I still can't get through to make an appointment to see Dr. Kocs. I can't believe it takes this long to get an appointment scheduled. I really don't want go to this location anymore. This is terrible. I don't recommend RR Texas Oncology at all! To this day I still haven't heard back and have asked my doctor to send my referral to somewhere else. read more

This is a mixed bag. The techs are nice. However, the receptionist is a pill and is completely unhelpful. The place is so overbooked that my 89 year old mother who has arthritis of the spine had to sit in her wheelchair for one hour and fifteen minutes waiting for her treatment before being called into the back. We barely made it back to her assisted living when her travel oxygen compressor ran out of charge. We were out for three hours with this ordeal and she had been using the compressor at lunch the hour before leaving for her appointment. If the receptionist worked for me, she wouldn't work for me. The overbooking, which everyone but the receptionist owned up to, is problem of greed that comes down from the top. I would look elsewhere. read more

I've been coming here for 5 years. I rate Dr. Kasper very highly--he's expert, a good listener, and really seems to care. The infusion room nurses are excellent. The phlebotomists change frequently but have all been skilled. Only negative is that the scheduling systems are terrible...I've sat with a scheduler for 15 minutes just to make my next 2 appointments. She's typing the whole time. ?! And trying to reschedule an appointment is difficult and can result in mistakes. But it's worth putting up with all that for the outstanding quality of human care. read more

After having a terrible experience with my first oncologist my chemo nurses recommended Dr. Kasper. I took their advice and got a second opinion from him. And he is really great. He was 100% honest with me and answered all of my questions. He goes over my lab work with me. He is a wonderful man and I wish I had him as my oncologist at the beginning of my lymphoma diagnosis. I can't say enough about him and the infusion room nurses. They are top notch. read more

Texas Oncology on Balcones is awesome. However, I would not recommend Dr. Micheal Kasper. I saw him and his nurse practitioner ONE time after several iron IV infusion treatments. I could not even get his nurse on the phone, and it was his PA who gave me my results after two months of iron IV's. Not one person on his team can sit and answer a question. I was treated so rudely by Dr. Kasper's team. Everyone from chemo room to the front desk are so caring. Just choose another doctor at that facility. Rose is the only one on Dr. Kasper's team who has bedside manner and a heart. Thank you Rose and Laura (triage) for giving me hugs when my doctor and his team could not care less. read more

It seems the people who do not work in their Harker Heights, TX. location do not know what they are doing, or do not care for the well being of patients. The first time they suppose to have sent me to do very expensive Cancer tests, which they did, but then they said that I needed other kinds of tests, so they sent me a second time to do other kinds of tests, BUT the ORDERS that they generated were not for any new tests! So, I went in for a second time, got stock, and paid an arm and a leg for the same test that they already had the results for!! I figure this out after few months, when I receive the bill. I approach them, neither of the workers, nor the doctor over there responding!! ONE star is still too much for these people! They play with people's lives just like that. I still have not done the 2nd tests, since I ran out of budget! read more

Where are his mankind blessings for human beings. Also, he said to come in for his first chemo without verifying his insurance first, so he had us waiting! It was so sad to watch my husband wait for his first chemo treatment, let alone it being a sad situation having to have been there in the first place. Today I went to my pre-op with Dr. Michael Teneriello and it was not pleasant. Surgery is already scary enough especially after all the cancer treatment and surgeries I had been through. My insurance is not the best and it required a pre-auth. I had been working with Dr. T's surgery scheduler and my insurance as much as I could, relaying massages back and forth. During my surgery Dr. T informs me that surgery is still not approved and my insurance company was very rude to his staff. I advised him that i was trying to help as much as I could. His response made my jaw drop to the floor "It's your job". As an employee in the medical field this is sort of true so i remained quiet. He continued to talk insurance and I finally asked; "should i post pond my surgery?" He said he would not do the surgery for free so he would need to collect a credit card or a check to move forward. My health issues never came up, not once. I was in shock that i could say was "thank you but I think at this point maybe its best i find another surgeon.
