You go in for your procedure...he explains what he's going to do...you get prepped...he does procedure...after you return to recovery you get dressed. Dr Sarles comes by and tells you exactly what happened during procedure and if any polyps were removed or biopsies taken and answers any questions you have. You're given patient instructions and photos taken during procedure and your ride picks you up to go home. He will inform you of lab results or you may call about 2 weeks later. I find him very personable yet a very serious and caring physician.

He could also modernize his website for new patient appointments, that would allow new patients to enter in patient information and lesson the burden on staff.

I asked if they could work me in somehow and was told that possibly in two days they could and they would call me back by then end of the day to confirm. NO CALL. Again no call! Day three I spoke to another person who promised me she would contact the DR as I may be able to be seen that day at 11. She called me back when she heard back from DR Hackert who said he was too busy to see me and to go to an (ER). I asked if I could be seen by anyone else, she said no! What I learned is no matter how many years you are a patient or how much money they have made off you they don't care and won't help. Good thing DR Hakert is retiring this year so others will know not to depend on him when you really need help. It's not healthcare it's a joke yet I'm not laughing.

I was referred by my PCP and had a procedure on June 3, 2025. The office later stated that a…read morefollow-up was scheduled on June 6 for September 3. I did not personally confirm that appointment. I was told reminder calls were made on August 29 and August 31. One attempt was documented as a "busy signal," and the other as "unconfirmed." I never spoke with anyone, never received a voicemail, and never confirmed this appointment. First, the explanation that my cell phone returned a "busy signal" is highly questionable. Modern cell phones with call waiting do not produce traditional busy signals under normal circumstances. That alone raises concerns about how these reminders are actually being documented. Second, despite no successful contact and no confirmation, the appointment was automatically treated as a no-show and a $50 fee was imposed. I was informed that paperwork signed months earlier includes a no-show policy. What makes this more concerning is that after the appointment had already passed, I conveniently began receiving automated calls telling me it was time to schedule a follow-up. So the system clearly has the ability to reach my phone. Somehow reminder calls before the appointment resulted in a "busy signal," yet automated outreach afterward worked without issue. There is a difference between having a policy and applying it reasonably. If an office cannot successfully reach a patient to confirm an appointment scheduled three months prior, enforcing a financial penalty is not patient-centered service -- it is rigid billing practice. I paid the fee, but the handling of this situation reflects poor communication standards and a lack of accountability. Patients should be aware that even without confirmed contact, they may still be charged.

I was recommended to Dr. Alvarez by a friend who is a patient of hers. My PCP sent over the referral. I was not allowed to make an appointment with Dr. Alvarez when I called them. First, I was told there had to be a "transfer of care" because I previously saw a doctor in their group (GI Alliance) two years ago. They said that the transfer was pending, a mere formality, and that I should hear back later that day. No one ever called me back so today, I drove over to their office. I spoke with the Office Manager, who flat out said Dr. Alvarez had looked over my chart and is refusing to see me. NO REASON WAS GIVEN. Huh?? That is a first for me. I've never been denied to see a doctor for non-insurance reasons. My PCP's office then called over to them and was again told about the "transfer of care". That's not what the Office Manager had stressed to me. Seems no one has any clue what's going on here and I still have no real idea why Dr. Alvarez is refusing to see me. I urge anyone wanting a referral for her to exercise caution...and consider looking elsewhere. Clearly, there is a lack of transparency here and no real evidence of a doctor who really cares...certainly not about future patients or their health.

Some of the residents get a little cocky and act as if they know my daughter and her medical issues better than I do. When this happens, I ask to see one of the attendings and all is (usually) well again. I have had to report in to my daughter's doctor everyday for a couple of weeks, and several times one of the other attendings called to see if there was any assistance they could offer until Dr. Nair was available. I found it comforting that if it had been urgent, there was someone there to handle the situation. This location is directly across the street from Baylor Medical Center of Garland, which makes it convenient if you need urgent /emergency testing, or anything done at the hospital.
