One of the few places in North Texas that will exchange foreign currency, especially metal (coins). None of the traditional foreign exchange services, and no bank that I've found, will exchange foreign coins for USD. However, Texas Currency only pays $3 per pound for foreign coins, so I'm not sure that's a really good deal. It's a convenient location near the tollway. The transactions are usually pretty straightforward and easy. However, don't expect to get the same conversion rate that you see online when you compare currencies. In addition, they only carry a limited number of currencies. I think you can order others on request. They won't deal in currencies that have high inflation rates, which is understandable. I have found that the best strategy is to use your ATM card in the country after you arrive to get local currency. You just need to be cautious about choosing ATM machine that's in a safe neighborhood and be mindful about who's around you. Another strategy is, if you have euros left over and you are likely to travel again to Europe don't exchange your euros after your return home. I called them before going there(whether they do currency exchange from INR(Asian India Rupee Currency) to USD and what all documents I need to bring with me). Good that they do INR to USD conversion as other banks - Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America, Regional Banks and even ICICI Bank won't do that. But I was not aware that this place is taking advantage of this very fact that they do this exchange. 100K INR equals to around $1160 but these folks were only willing to pay $760 plus there was a $10 fees on top of it. So for every 100K INR transaction one will loose $500 - wow. I have never heard this kind of currency exchange in my life. At the most, exchanges make 2 or 3 per 100 INR but not this much. I was exchanging Euros into dollars. I had about 8 euros in coins and she said they did it by weight and not value but it should only affect the price "by a few cents". She then proceeded to offer me $0.37 for 8 euros which is nuts. After I completed the exchange she also handed me a flyer that was sitting on the counter and would have cut my exchange fee in half. The best place to buy foreign currency! This location is located just outside the entrance to Macy's inside the Willow Bend Mall, Plano. They made purchasing so easy. No gouging fees that you will find at airports. They have the buy/ask price listed of the currencies that they have. You pay that price plus a $5.00 Exchange fee and that's it! It's that simple. Staff was friendly (David) and very efficient. I went when they opened mid-week. Vietnamese Dong is a RIP off here. Do Not exchange your dollars here. The current official exchange rate $80 = VND 1,969,200. Texas Currency exchange will give you for $80 = VND 989,447. Which is less than half the exchange rate (given by the global money market). I understand there is a gap between buy and sell rates but this is daylight robbery. Prompt and great service. You should call ahead to see if they have your amount readily available. I didn't call and found out the hard way. I wanted to exchange 1k into pesos, fortunately they had it. However, the had mostly large bills and even though I begged for smaller bills, I got 4K pesos in small bills only... I used yelp and ended up paying $2.50 for the exchange. They make their money by selling you a different exchange rate (lower). So that day exchange rate in pesos was close to 20 pesos per dollar. They sold to me for a little above 18 pesos. For 1k USD I ended up getting 18.5k and some change in pesos. So this is where they make their money. But this is how all exchange places make their money...the difference is finding out which gives you best rate. You can always call other exchange places before coming and seeing what rates are that day...they will match you if you found a better rate. I didn't do my homework up front, so I hope I can help you instead! The good news is that you can also come back (with a receipt) and return Any left over money you didn't use from the vacation at same exchange rates you bought for...so that is a nice perk! The Frisco location was closed due to staffing issues. They gave a forwarding number to call. That number sent me to the Plano location in Willow Bend Mall. I was told they were open until 7 PM. I showed up at 5:40 PM. One person at the counter in front of me. I patiently wait in line. Two guys behind the counter, one obviously taking care of the guy in front of me. The other guy doing nothing. A couple minutes of wait, only to have the one guy actually doing anything, lean around the customer he was helping, just to inform me that after helping him they were going to lunch, so I was shit out of luck. Customer service? Rather than take care of one more customer ( nobody else in line), they sent me packing. Two locations, no service at either. Typical of today's apathetic organizations. In anticipation of some international Asian-based travel, found this business on the internet and the reviews were really good. So, I drove the 15 minutes to Plano, parked easily in the lot behind Macy's at the Mall, and easily found their service area in the corridor next to Z Gallerie. Was helped promptly by a young man who was polite, professional, and who had a good sense of humor. He converted my US currency to Hong King dollars, Thai Baht, Vietnamese Dong, and Singapore dollars. The price for the conversion was a $5 convenience fee. Because My travels include Vietnam and its currency is highly speculative, I had to show proof of travel. Apparently the exchange rate is slightly different if one is buying the currency for its speculative value. I also had to sign a government document and allow my TX driver's license to be photocopied. The travails resulting from currency fraud...who knew? As we concluded business, the service representative separated and packaged the currencies in handy envelopes while also providing small info sheets explaining each of the conversions. Quick and easy currency exchange. I was surprised how low the fee was since I was expecting to pay way more in fees. Service was quick and polite. They will take your US dollars in debit card form and give you the foreign currency you need. This makes it super convenient if you don't want to carry around a large amount of cash.
