If you want to pay in advance with no refunds, don't want a recital for dance or actual play for theater arts, and have your child be taught how to vogue instead of hip hop then this is the place for you. In town visiting the in-laws for the holidays and they bought tickets to go see Elf at this local theater. The production and actors were great. It was better then I expected. I found out that they moved their location recently into a space that actually is more theater-like inside. I've seen a production from TexArt before a few years back in their old location in a strip mall and the although that show was good, the seats in the old location was kinda uncomfortable. The current theater felt newer and also sold snacks to eat like chips, popcorn, soda, water, and various candies and treats. They didn't sell alcohol (probably bc they didn't have a liquor license) but had beer and wine that they can pour you a glass with a donation to the theater. Overall the experience was really good. The production set, choreography, acting, and flow of the whole show was well put together. I was afraid that I would fall asleep because we went to see the show right after dinner but it was very good and exciting throughout. The only thing that I didn't like about this new location is that it had limited parking so I would recommend to get there earlier. We showed up about 10 min before the show started and got one of the last parking spaces. The previous location was in a strip mall so there was plenty of parking! read more

Text arts is such a phenomenal organization. They offer a variety of theater, music and dance classes for children and adults. I send my 7 1/2 year-old to the hip-hop dance class every week. She loved it. I also send both of my children to their day camps. They learn how to perform, sing, and put on a great show in the end. I definitely love the Texas arts school and would highly recommend. read more

My husband & I went to see "Million Dollar Quartet" this last weekend. What a FANTASTIC performance. It is so nice to be able to have a night out locally in Lakeway and not have to drive into town! The music had us tapping our toes and clapping our hands. I can't recommend this performance enough! There aren't many left (goes through February) so get your tickets soon! read more

The space is quite intimate - I could have reached out and touched some of the performers. This place has my highest recommendation. Extremely disappointed by this organization that claims to offer professional quality acting and theater classes, but the teachers are actually dance instructors and the owner is a dancer who did a few shows on Broadway but has no business directing children or attempting to teach acting. The biggest issue I have is that the choreography is clearly copied move for move from the copyrighted work of professional Broadway shows with no credit given to the original choreographers. read more

I went to see the spring student performance. It consists of performances in all the facets that they teach: acting, musical theatre, lyrical, ballet, jazz, tap, film, hip hop etc. It was an hour long and it was really awful. I have a degree in theatre arts so I know a good perfomance when I see one. Perhaps some of the children are asked to do too many numbers so none of them are excellent. From what I saw, if I wanted to send my child to a performance school just to have some fun and socialize, this would be fine. But if I had a child who truly wanted to be an excellent performer, I would look elsewhere. read more

My mom's birthday is coming up and my sister and I were looking for something unique to do (other than the usual, go to dinner, gift, etc). In one of the various Austin event calendars I found TexARTS production of Steel Magnolias (2pm on a Sunday) so we decided it was a fantastic way to celebrate. We had a the most amazing time!! It was odd at first, the theater was in a strip center, but once inside it made sense. I was very impressed with the way everything ran. You can get something to drink, like wine or beer at the beginning, they ask for a donation and do ask you to pour it yourselves (probably a TABC thing). We visited for a bit and when it was time to go in for our seats. The theater is perfect! Very small and I don't think there would be a bad seat in the house. We were off to the left side and didn't miss a thing (I just wish I took a picture to post so you could see how close you are to the stage). The cast and crew were really phenomenal and the show was so incredibly funny - very like the movie, but everything took place in the beauty salon. We laughed so much we cried! Afterwards we went out for a happy hour and the three of us couldn't stop quoting things and talking about how great of an experience it was. I plan to go back for sure! read more

As an active theater goer, I wanted to try out this theater. The first problem was that the box office is not open on weekends, only before a show. So, my date and I decided to take our chances and just show up. Turns out it is in a strip center mall, which caused a little trepidation, but we went in. The show was totally booked, but they said their was just one person ahead of us for people who didn't show. So, we waited. At two minutes before the show started, they let the one person ahead of us go in, clearly someone they knew. We were expecting a nod for the same purpose, but nothing happened. I asked, and they said that we couldn't go in until 15 minutes after the show started. Why anyone would ever want to go to a show 15 minutes in is a mystery, but they said it was their policy, even though they had let the other fellow in. This is a school, and clearly they have no idea how to run a professional theater. We left, and so I can't tell you how professional the performance was or wasn't. However, I can tell you this is the snootiest theater you will ever find in a strip mall. Unless they know you, don't wait... read more

Our experience was very disappointing at TexArts. The directors and teachers are severely lacking in communication skills; they market their classes as teachers with Broadway "experience" but the productions don't back up that claim; and it is horrendously expensive. $15 for a ticket to a children's show that was mediocre at best - some of the kids didn't even know their lines after working with teachers for four hours a week for four months. If you are looking for an expensive babysitting agency that you can drop your child off, this place will work for you. If you want a dance or theatrical educational experience, you might want to research for other studios. read more
