Yelp Review - Texan Eye Surgery Center, 7000 N. Mopac Expressway, Austin, TX Disappointing Experience - Poor Communication and Care I had cataract surgery on my right eye at Texan Eye Surgery Center on October 13, 2025. The procedure itself was fine, but I was discharged without the required dark protective sunglasses. When I mentioned this to a staff member named Pam the next morning, she cut me off and said, "That's not true." Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. When I returned on October 20 for my left-eye surgery, things got worse. After being prepped and placed on IV, I was left completely unattended for over an hour -- no updates, no check-ins. The gel on my eye dried out, and when I finally asked about the delay, I was told it would be "another 30 minutes." I left frustrated, hungry, and uncomfortable. This clinic badly needs retraining in empathy, communication, and patient care. I will never return or recommend them to anyone. read more

My review is based on being a friend bringing a patient. You can park in either two garages at this location. I recommend driving into the first garage and turning right. On the first level during the morning, there is plenty of 2-hour parking spaces. As a friend/family member, you're required to stay in the clean and quiet waiting room as you enter the Center, but the patient first has to check-in at Suite 110 next door. My friend was out in two minutes. The very happy and calming staff at TSC greeted us and made us feel relaxed. One came around with a bowl of snacks for those who are waiting, but normally snacks are upon request. Amenities include water, tea, coffee with plenty of different flavored creamers, padded seating, umbrellas, tv, magazines and tissues. They have wheelchairs for patients that need it. After surgery, you have to get your car from the garage and drive down the right of the building and meet your patient. Overall, I was happy with my experience and how they treated my friend. Everybody, I mean everybody, was so accommodating and friendly. read more

This review comes from a Mother of a 3 year old that was scheduled for a tonsillectomy. This is about Suite 120. Do yourself a favor and do not have surgery here. We only did it because we LOVE Dr. Nason a lot but if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have gone here. First off when they called me from pre-op (her name was Elizabeth)they were very rude in any questions I had. When I would ask a question they were short and seemed annoyed that I had questions. I asked normal questions As a normal concerned parent with a three year old that would be going under. When I specifically asked if my husband and I could switch off they said no only one parent. I asked again if there was no way that we could switch since he is so little. Whomever was on the phone said "let me speak with a nurse". I waited and waited... they related that the nurse has said it was okay to switch. I went great thank you. My husband specially took the day off to be with me. A second call comes in about billing. They told me the amount and I asked are we able to pay 50% now and then payment plans and they said no all upfront. Mind you this isn't my sons first surgery and I have done payment plans. They told me the full amount was due upon check in. Granted we can afford it but I even thought what about those parents that can't pay it all up front but their kid needs the surgery. Just a bad way to go about things. Lots of lack of communication From billing department. Day of surgery arrived and when we walked in they told us only one parent can stay with the kid. I was upset because I was told that we would be able to switch. The check in receptionist kept saying according to CDC guidelines... blah blah blah... I told her I was told that we would be able to switch and she repeatedly said no. I was mad at this point. She got her manager and he said that only one parent could stay in the waiting room but if we wanted to switch later that's okay. Even when he was telling us this he said if you don't know there's covid going around, like excuse me so now you're belittling us and telling us we're stupid. Like we don't know covid is going on??!! I said, that's what I was asking. No apology whatsoever from the front desk at all. We pay the bill and settle up. Then we do the paperwork. As we're handed the paperwork nurse Marsha comes over with an attitude saying only one parent can stay. I'm not exaggerating when I say she came over with a big attitude. At that point my husband lost it. He told her that she didn't need to tell us again we spoke with the manager. I was upset to know or think that this is the nurse that would be taking care of my son. Very uneasy feeling. Now post-op was thankfully a whole different story. They were so nice and loving on my son. Nikki was our main nurse and she was so good with him. Everyone in the back was so friendly and welcoming. My son wanted a second popsicle and I asked Nurse Nikki and she gladly gave him one. Just such a relief from what we had already experienced at the front. If only the receptionist had the same attitude as them. Beware of this place and do not feel bad about speaking your mind. If you're taking your precious child you want the best treatment for them and yourself. read more

The billing department has NO idea what they are doing. They ask for payment in advance BEFORE they have even completed the service or it has even run through your insurance. You know, right before you or a loved one is about to go into surgery. Then they finally run it through insurance and you don't owe the thousands of dollars they said you owed. A LOT LESS. Ridiculous. NEVER AGAIN! Now the doctor and the nurses here were very nice and accommodating with my 3 year old son. So if my son needs surgery again, I'll make sure he gets it done at a different facility to avoid the billing issues with this one read more

Let me start this off with I was already nervous and upset this morning. After going in for my second surgery in two months, I was hoping this surgery center would be a lot nicer than Northwest Surgery Center. It wasn't. Looking past the waiting room that is older than me, with little to no amenities, I enjoyed the employee named Rose rant, cuss, and rave for 30 minutes. As much as I can understand not being a morning person, swearing loudly when there are patients in the waiting room at 6AM is not okay, and did not put me at ease about the professionalism of this place. So I did the adult thing and started silently crying and trying to leave, because if this what their staff looks like now, I didn't want to know what they looked like in the OR. I wasn't up to get another staph infection, or worse. If you were wondering what Rose was upset about, it seems that she may have let a secret spill about her coworker, and even though Rose says she would "do anything for a sister", and "take it to her grave", she was obviously not "taking it to her grave". At around 6:10am, Rose was "pissed", while making coffee and having whatever melt down/ tantrum was going on. The rest of the hospital staff, nurses, doctors, etc, we're very nice and professional. But your receptionists are the first employee's people meet when they walk in your business, and Rose was what I had to go off of. read more

I took my 5 year old son here for his tonsillectomy /adenoidectomy and the entire staff was amazing. The check in process was fast and painless. All Covid precautions were in place. The nurses in this place are a God send. Kelly, you were so sweet with me and my son, thank you for your kindness. Also Margaret, Olivia, and the beautiful blond young girl that I didn't catch her name, you guys were awesome. The anesthesiologist and the CRNA were so friendly , informative. They advised me on what to expect and were there to support us. My son received so much attention and outstanding medical care, I couldn't have asked for a better a team. Thank you everyone who dealt with us that day, as a mother I couldn't have asked for a better group of medical professionals to care for my little guy. You guys are appreciate it! Thank you Dr. Nason for putting us in good hands. Then again, coming from you this was totally expected, as you are just the best ENT in Austin, hands down. You are a true testament of what a medical doctor is supposed to be. Specially when dealing with kids. You're a blessing! read more

I had a procedure here about a week ago. I used to work with surgery centers, so I've been in a lot. This one was great. The office and medical staff were kind and supportive, everything was on time and efficient. The place was clean and orderly. The waiting room was large - about 20-25 chairs and had typical waiting room seating. The only complaints/suggestions are directions and privacy. You can hear everything about the other patients as they check-in. I didn't sense any effort to keep discussions confidential. The other challenge is finding it. They do a very poor job on this - it really should be addressed on their web site. I took uber and we got lost - the street address took us to the wrong place. Don't plan to just punch it into your GPS. It is at the NW corner of Far West and N Mopac, across Far West from Austin Regional Center. The address faces Mopac, but don't use that. Pull in from Far West driveway and drive back until you see it. read more

I'm writing this review after my successful cataract surgeries in October, 2020. My impressions of the entire staff are extremely favorable; very attentive, very professional, very efficient. I love the improvements to my vision and I would recommend this team to everyone. The reason for not giving them 5 stars is due to my frustration with the third-party billing services used by the Texan Surgery Center. Be aware that you may not receive a statement from the billing services outlining your account activity. You may only learn that you owe money through a phone call from the billing service. Be aware that the online payment tool on the Texan Surgery's website may not work. It will give evidence that it processed your payment but it is not to be trusted. Be prepared to waste your time on the phone with a person from the billing service to resolve and document what you owe and what you have paid. The folks I spoke with from the billing service are nice enough but they do not have much in the way of useful information beyond your open balance. I encourage the Texan Surgery Center to review the performance of this billing service because it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. read more

I thought they were great here. Very helpful, really on top of everything going on, even with some young children that were having a pretty unhappy time coming out of surgery while I was waiting to go in. They were very efficient and three different docs / nurses came to double check that I was lined up for the correct surgery. (Had some nasal reconstruction) The waiting quarters are little small for the amount of traffic they get, but it wasn't bad. LOCATION NOTE: This center is at the northwest corner of Mopac and Far West, not where the maps show it online. read more

Having work experience at a few very excellent surgery centers myself, this place is absolutely amazing in terms of the standard of care, and facilty itself. All of the staff including the front desk, OR staff, and PACU nurses were efficient, communicative, empathetic, and EXTREMELY patient with us as parents to a child having surgery for the first time. They perform many procedures on young children here, and it takes a special kind of nurse, and staff member in general to be able to handle taking care of both the child, and often times, very nervous and inquisitive parents. We were very appreciative of all staff members at this facility, and I would give it 10 stars if I could. If you have a child scheduled for surgery here, rest assured, every single staff member will make sure they are taken care of as if they were their child. Thank you to Texan Sugery Center for taking such amazing care of our son! You should be proud to have such compassionate nurses and staff working at this facility. read more

All the nurses and support staff were wonderful in easing our nerves during our child's surgery. They were very helpful, accommodating, and patient with our questions. The physicians were wonderful as well. The front office team were informative and empathic toward us. Overall, wonderful staff and very good in working with children and parents. Their jobs aren't easy taking care of children and adults pre and post surgery. I commend them for their patience and support during an already stressful time. read more

Amazing professionality and friendliness from front desk all the way to the surgeon. I brought a child under my care in for a tonsillectomy, and they were very patient and graceful with him despite his squirelly behavior. They were also very patient with me and my 30 minute grilling of the nurse regarding aftercare. Aces in my book. read more

Do not go here. They use out of network anesthesiologists, and give you absolutely no way of knowing ahead of time. My sinus surgery cost me the full $3,000 deductible PLUS the $2400 out of network the anesthesiologist charged me. Absolutely egregious. For shame read more

We have used this facility three times now. Once when my daughter was 5 to put in ear tubes, once when my son, 4 years old, had to have his tonsils and adenoids removed, and most recently today to get my daughter's ear tubes removed and her adenoids taken out. I'm going to give them my highest rating and I don't give that 5 star mark unless it's been earned. They receive my highest recommendation today. They remembered us, they took care for us, and they did everything in their power (and were successful!) in making sure my daughter did not wake up from surgery nauseous. When she came out of surgery she was asking for one of the nurses who was in there with her and even though the kind lady had already started getting ready to leave for the day she made her way back in to give a special goodbye to my daughter which made her day. The insurance and billing department are courteous and we appreciated the call in advance of our appointment letting us know how much our deductible would be on the day of surgery. Being the beginning of a new year and having to meet the deductible all over again, that was very helpful information for us. The Drs and staff are amazing. The facility is clean and comfortable. During our last visit, the City of Austin was having a water issue that effected several city blocks including the surgery center and this amazing facility managed to not only meet, but exceed all of our expectations even when city services failed. Two thumbs up. Of course we hope not to need surgery again, but if we do we'll be requesting Texan Surgery Center. read more

I have been to a variety of outpatient surgery centers in the Austin area over the years, and as far as comfort goes this one is by far the worst. One small waiting room with the hardest chairs (and not enough of them) is all you get. I have been sitting here for over 3 hours now, cramped elbow to elbow with the other people waiting and a broken TV. Thirsty? They have an elementary style water fountain. And people are literally pacing because there are not enough chairs, this is crazy. If you get bored, you can listen to what everyone is checking in for and how much it's costing them, since the desk is about 5 feet from the chairs with no privacy. Parking was also crazy ridiculous here, not easy for some surgery patients at all. Prepare for stairs and elevators. The place is clean and professional, the office staff is nice. But if we are ever referred here for a surgery again we will refuse. There are plenty of other places in town with comfortable waiting areas, TV's and coffee. read more

They mostly get old people here, so I understand why the tv in the waiting room is so loud. Not sure why it's so cold. And I guess the people they require to sit and wait throughout the procedure are often old, too, so maybe they don't always have someplace to be. But as a person with a job, I find it difficult to accept that my friend wasn't taken back to begin the procedure until 30 minutes after the first appointment and an hour after the second. I find it difficult to accept that the doctor and the surgery center don't seem to communicate, to the point that my friend's nurse doesn't know what kind of drops she was prescribed. I find it difficult to accept that the staff got offended when I tried to get answers to questions nobody seemed able to answer. Hint: I tend to be much more respectful of people who respect me and my time. If my friend wasn't essentially getting her eyesight back, I would have walked out by now. If I ever need similar surgery, I'm going somewhere else. read more
