The horses we were on were Big Kent and Big Tex- both were great and they did well for us and we ( experienced riders) loved it that we actually had to ride them. Horses are nice and fat/healthy. They are the ONLY horseback riding with permits to enter Tetons and Yellowstone . Other Yellowstone horseback riding is through xantera or whatever the main Yellowstone commercial Company that manages all the hotels/restaurants/staff for general stores, very Disneyland/commercial. Wilderness Trails is family owned, rural, one of a kind. We felt like a family on the prairie. They literally plop horse corrals and tents and cooking station in the middle of grand Tetons and Yellowstone on a meadow/prairie like plot of land. All the staff live there in tents and some campers and so you basically join "their family" and live that life. They had a professional chef that came from a Michilin Star restaurant (he was not technically a Michilin chef) but food was amazing and so well Done! We got to eat with our horse wranglers and the chef and felt like part of their family. They all had their own dog and my kids had so much fun running around with all The doggies:) they had a warm outdoor like shower and you are in the middle of nature bathing amd my daughter said it was the best shower of her life! It was my 7 year olds first time horseback riding and she did just fine! My other kids were 10 and 12-they wanted to "live there" and asked if we could have their bday parties there. He was informative and the boat held some great discussions throughout the trip, which makes it more enjoyable. I was imagining more rapids, but there was a lot more slow parts of the river. The big Kahuna was the one rapid that managed to get everyone except our guide wet. They were taking pictures there which you can purchase online or go to their shop and buy them for 20% off. We even thread the needle towards the end between a couple large rocks. It's worth doing a small 8 person boat. I'd even go in May or June to get more rapids because going at the beginning of August the water flow slows way down losing some of the rapids. They do offer water jackets you can put on under the life vest when you get there. The water was cool but not cold enough to need a wetsuit in August unless you can't handle cool temps. They do offer all that when you Check-in to rent too. If you have young kid, 4th grade or older they let them sit at the head of the boat. They have to be strong enough to hold on going over the rapids.

He is friendly, knowledgeable, outgoing, and very nice to our children. I always coordinate our plans with him for airport pickup / drop off as well as excursions into town, etc. He has always arrived early and taken us exactly where we needed to be on time, even if weather and road conditions were challenging. His knowledge of local wildlife and terrain was extensive. We will happily continue to hire Mountain Mike going forward!

Mike gave next to nothing in terms of relevant facts and history. The lunch provided was sandwiches and water. The bread was very stale, leading us to conclude that the sandwiches were probably picked up a day or two in advance, definitely not the same morning. We did see some wildlife(bison, sheep, a few elk at a great distance, and one moose, also at a great distance, at the very end of our tour). We were in the cramped, dirty van from 6 am til @ 5 pm! I would never recommend this service to anyone!

The camp is great though definitely expect rustic accommodations with the exception of the beds, which are (heavenly) real mattresses. The horses and ride were great - very well-mannered horses and a wonderful evening ride through wildflower-filled mountain meadows, creeks, and up and down reasonably challenging terrain. What my daughter (and I) loved most were the people - Sam was a great cook and friendly guide and our other guide Mariah was incredibly patient with my daughter's barrage of questions and let her help put away tack and feed the horses after the ride. A truly memorable Wyoming experience with many great memories.

The trail ride was such an adventure for this Texas girl who's use to riding on flat ground! The fireside dinner was excellent and the beds are comfortable. It was nice not to have to set up a tent once getting to the campground, everything is ready for you! There is a convenience store closeby if you end up needing anything. It's also just down the road from the entrance to Yellowstone so it's easy to make this horseback riding adventure one of the stops on your trip!
