It's the type of place you would go in to with your girlfriend, wife, sister or even mother and they'd point out all the flowers and trinkets and say, 'Awk isn't that cute?' to which you'd nod back agreeing. So what brought such a manly man like myself to The Flower Room I hear you ask? Well, I was looking for boxes, not manly wooden boxes but the wee cardboard types you can put gifts in. I thought The Flower Room would be a good bet to get them because they have a whole array of gifts arranged beautifully out the front of the shop. As soon as I walked in to the shop, which is a converted terrace house, I heard a big 'Hello' coming from upstairs and a 'Can I help you?' Kathryn the owner then rushed down to see if she could help in my quest for a box. She literally hunted in her storeroom to see if she could help me and when she couldn't she listed loads of other shops that I might be able to get the desired box. This was absolutely remarkable service. I actually ended up chatting to her for a while - she was telling me that The Flower Room specialise in Weddings but are busy for the impending Valentines Day as well as other 'flowery' holidays. The shop is beautifully arranged and I would suggest going in just to experience the warmth atmosphere on offer. They have a full range of gifts and a few garden products - The Flower Room is a shining example of a great independent business, forget buying bouquets online.

Well I am over the moon finding Norah Mitchell's Flowers! They exceeded my expectations in every way! My daughter and I have a very dear cousin in Belfast. We wanted to send her a bouquet of flowers, from each of us, for her birthday. I couldn't find my usual go-to florist and picked Norah Mitchell's due to their photographs, and price. I live in California and my daughter and her family live on the east coast. Vicki was wonderful to deal with on email and Carolyn was very kind and helpful on the phone. Flower arrangements were lovely and very affordable. Even my daughter remarked how beautiful and affordable her arrangement was. We highly recommend them and will be using them again during the upcoming Christmas holiday! I am attaching photos of the flowers we sent.

Little being the operative word...there really isn't much room for manoeuvre, and I kept having to ensure my sister didn't knock over everything, or guess who'd be paying? But the size adds to the rustic charm of this gorgeous gift store, which is situated right beside the Bay Tree cafe. And all good things, come in small packages, right? The ground floor is filled with country-esque gifts and knick knacks, such as cute measuring tapes, sewing sets, wooden signs, Hunter wellie boots, cute notebooks, funky soaps...even tiny little mice which seem to have no other purpose than looking sweet. I was happy enough with this ground floor alone, but when two other ladies were told that the upstairs was open too, I couldn't resist having a sneak peek. Oooooh, wow. It was like vintage / rustic furniture heaven. The most enchanting little tea set, a tiny rocking chair, beautiful towels, stunning crockery and tableware, and dozens of items of magnificent furniture...all in the most delightful setting. We took a quick look around in complete awe, and decided that the longer we spent there, the more likely that: a) Either of us would knock something over / walk into something. b) I would end up buying something. Both of equal likelihood, I add. Staff were wonderful, chatty and polite, bidding us farewell and thanking us for coming, and we left The Mews speechless at the wonderment we had just encountered. It certainly takes something...

I really loved my dander around this little shop - be warned its tiny so don't wear a backpack or you will knock everything over. I can describe this shop as pastel coloured - everything is kitsch and pastel and quaint and cute. I love looking at the bits and pieces in shops like this and on occasion I will purchase something but I like my home to be clutter free so I usually only buy mugs and stationery. I bought a lovely upside down mug for a friend for just under a tenner. The mug is the right way up but the writing is upside down - it's confusing and is bound to lead to spilled tea! The shop also sell old fashioned sweets, I bought a sweetie watch - remember those? Yummy! There is an upstairs section to this shop as well which sells home wares, towels and quaint furniture. I enjoyed looking around this shop and I will be back to get birthday and Christmas presents. The prices are reasonable and the staff were jolly.

This is the sort of place where actually buying anything from them is a real chore rather than anything resembling a decent or even ok experience. If they perhaps focused more on providing some sort of service along with some form of stock rather than jamming their shop full of non florist related items such as handbags for example?? I would happily drive 10 minutes to a good florist than walk 2 minutes to this place, actually I would rather drive 30 minutes than go here. Woeful!

I first heard of Penelopes when I very generous friend send e a bunch of their flowers which were just stunning. Not your run of the mill roses or carnations, but lovely long stemmed things in beautiful colours that I don't even know the names of. You will pay here for a bouquet than you would in say M&S but what you get in quality and the range of unusual foliage available more than justify that. The staff don't mind at all if you say that you only want to spend say £8 or £10 and will do their best to make up the fullest bunch they can within your budget. I've also seen some huge bouquets waiting to be delivered which were £75 but were drop dead gorgeous. You can order pretty much any type of arrangement, from wedding flowers to a centre piece for your dinner party table. They can also do arrangements in dried flowers if you're looking for something that will last longer. I also love the little potted plants and flowers they do which some in funky containers like brown paper bags and purple plant pots.
