I needed half a dozen 1 inch srews to fix a small door at home and I was charged 12p each for them and I think I could have bought the whole box of 200 for about £2.00 . The guy who sold them to me actuallly said "sure 70p will do for them" as if he was doing me a big favour. I had a quick look around while I was there and if you were into DIY there was certainly plenty to choose from but the prices were very high compared to the likes of B&Q for instance and they aren't exactly cheap. The youngest staff member.. I think his name was James seemed very helpful and knowledgeable but the man who served me was very dull and hardly even made eye contact with me. Definately will not be back..couldn't afford it.

Aside from the innovative name, Hardys is a pretty darn good wee shop. The fact that it's slightly more than a hardware store made me feel slightly more at ease (you may recall my previous review [singular] of a hardware store, and how I felt completely out of place), but I have to say that it was also the accompaniment of my dad that made the whole experience generally nicer. Thanks Daddy. Back to the vast range of stock though. Yes, it's got the wood, tools, gadgets and DIY stuff, but there's a huge variety of other stuff too. There's toiletries, household cleaners, pet goods, home decor...even confectionery! I got lost in the toiletry section while my dad looked for some man thingy. Or something like that. The place is lovely - the café is filled with light and plants and the surroundings are beautiful. My brother loved his herbed rice bowl and I liked the organic porridge with fruit and the pistachio plum cake. The only kink was that several items arrived much later than the food - the coffees, bread, and honey for my porridge (I had already finished my porridge by then). The store is filled with great stuff - fresh fruit and veg, and a good selection of some of the most ethical products. Weirdly, the Strandfield website contains no info other than an address, so you have to rely on reviews to get info in advance. The lunch menu is mostly comprised of sourdough pizza, salads (including a quinoa bowl and herbed rice bowl), and sandwiches - see menu photo. There are also lots of bakery items, including freshly baked scones, cakes and wheaten bread (which was really good - I bought one to take home). When I was needing to buy pots and plants for a large courtyard in a holiday complex, I compared quite a number of local garden centres with regard to price, choice, and customer service. The Landscape Centre won hands down. Their choice of pots and plants was better than anywhere else, their prices on a par with all the others, and the service outstanding. In other places I had to follow staff around asking questions; even though I made it clear that I was interested in buying quite a lot, they barely answered my questions before turning away. At the Landscape Centre, I not only was given educated advice, for no extra charge they potted the plants for me, as it was too heavy a job for me and I had no assistance at work, and for a £5 fee they delivered everything, the same day, and placed them exactly where I needed them. Whenever I need anything for the garden, I don't waste my time even considering anywhere other than the Landscape Centre, and no, I don't own shares in their business!
