I found many items I wasn't planning on purchasing that I just had to get! I found some delicious kefir, a fantastic selection of teas, jams, cookies, snacks and some interesting sodas. They have a whole row of amazing spices at super low prices! I wouldn't expect a container of that size at one of our local spice shops for less than twice the price! I think there are chick peas prepared 100 ways! I did find a good selection of baklava from the Nazareth Sweets store in Chicago. I've been there in person and the store is nice. While baklava from this region isn't filled with honey (which is my personal favorite), their sugar mixture is still a good sweet flavor. I also found a wide range of halal meats and products. They have many fresh and prepared medjool dates! I have a list of many items to return for as the store's selections made me want more and more. I haven't seen this selection since spending time searching in Chicago, so it's a great addition here in West Des Moines!

Fontenelle is perhaps more fashion, while Stoked takes that theme to the sporting outdoors. Hence, there is some overlap in their respective offerings. I wandered in yesterday and admired the selections over 2 floors and discovered some interesting camping and outdoor cooking options. I had a nice chat with an owner and came away knowing that I'd be back with a better developed shopping list. Stoked has a good website to help that along.

The chips and salsa were good, and I asked for the hot salsa which was much more my speed. Nothing that absolutely blew us away, but good portions, everything tasted good and we certainly didn't leave hungry. The drinks were another story -- those were hitting just fine. Service was okay. Everyone was friendly enough, but they seemed a little distracted and it wasn't the most attentive service we've had. The restaurant itself is colorful and fun with a ton of personality. Since it was my birthday, I also got the full treatment -- birthday song, giant sombrero and a shot of what I'm pretty sure was some very inexpensive tequila. Can't complain about that! The salmon tasted great and the charred asparagus didn't disappoint. I am staying at the hotel and they are open until 10 so good for a late dinner in a nice environment.
