EV Charger Expert - EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger NEMA 14-50 plug-in model to NEMA 14-50 outlet

EV Charger Expert

East Oakland

EV Charger Expert proposed installing a smart plug that would monitor demand, and should demand overtax the existing service, throttle back demand from the car charger. That cost $1550 plus a $600 smart plug. The work was done quickly and it worked for Night One. I'm happy.

Worked with "EVCharger Expert" to install a 240V outlet for an EV charger in my garage and a…read morededicated 20A outlet for an over-the-range microwave. Overall, the job was completed successfully, passed inspection, and avoided a costly panel upgrade. But there were also a few areas where the process could have been handled more proactively. What I appreciated: * Technical expertise & cost savings: My service panel is limited (90A), and other contractors immediately suggested an expensive underground service upgrade. Kirill performed load calculation and recommended using an Emporia Pro charger with dynamic load management. That solution allowed me to safely add both the EV charging outlet and the microwave circuit without upgrading the service panel. * Permits & documentation: They provided the required licensing, insurance documentation and handled the city permitting and inspection process. The final inspection passed without issue. * Responsiveness: Communication was generally clear via email regarding quotes, scheduling, and permit updates. Where I believe the process could improve: We encountered a major obstacle when it was discovered that the crawl space was blocked by a concrete foundation wall, preventing wire routing as originally planned. Initially, there wasn't a clear alternative proposed. I ended up suggesting routing the wiring through the ceiling instead. While the team evaluated and successfully implemented that solution, I would have preferred if alternative routing strategies had been proactively identified earlier in the process. I also want to acknowledge Erin's craftsmanship. When we ultimately routed the wiring through the ceiling, he carefully navigated around existing plumbing lines and made precise cuts to minimize disruption. The finish work was clean and well executed. In the end, the installation works well, passed inspection, and achieved the primary goal of adding EV charging without a major panel upgrade. I would recommend them for homeowners with limited electrical capacity, especially if dynamic load management is needed.

Electrify America - The vehicle was at 37% before I began charging. Took 83 min to get me to 90% and was charged $15.91 total using the Ultra Fast station

My first time using the station was a breeze. I had no clue what I was doing, following the on screen directions simplified the process and made it easy to navigate. My second time using the station had an issue occur, the screen froze on my payment. I contacted customer service (contact information located at each station) and was able to connect with a real person instantly. She restarted the station, ensured me my card was released from any charges and I was able to use the station. I made the mistake on entering my payment first prior to connecting the EV pump to the vehicle. Oops! The directions on the screen specify this very clearly. YOU MUST PLUG THE CHARGER INTO YOUR VEHICLE FIRST THEN ENTER YOUR PAYMENT INFO ON THE SCREEN. The charging station is illuminated the entire use of the EV pump, detailing how much time remaining until you reach 80% and 100% charge, showing you where your current charge % is, how much your card has been charged so far, how long you have been at the station and the rate of energy being delivered to your vehicle. As a guest, you have the option to enter your phone number to receive a detailed text receipt detailing your transaction. The details are easy to view from your vehicle. I used the pump for 83 min, went from 37% to 90% and was charged $15.91 total using the Ultra Fast pump.

EVgo Fast Charging Station - Each charger has a name. Use the name in the app to start your charge and know which charger carries what kWh (100 v 350)

At this EVgo location in Pinole, there are hidden charging stations - 7 in total. The chargers are…read moreeasy to miss and can be difficult to locate your first try. To the direct left of Sprouts is handicap parking (2 spots) and an oversized dumpster area. If you drive past this area and continue, there you will locate the stations. Once you plug in, in the app select the station you are connected to and begin to charge from your phone. The chargers are fast in speed, charging my 2023 Performance Tesla Model 3 from 28 to 80% in 20 minutes. Pretty amazing! I spent $11 total, the app told me when my charge was complete and provided me 10 min of idle time prior to an additional charge. For the speed and rate during early afternoon I believe the service received is worth the price. The type and kW vary from 100-350 kW with the options of CCS combo and CHAdeMO chargers. Each station is given a name (Nell, Melissa, Monroe, Qiyun...), based on the name you can identify which charging speed its equipped with (using the app). Just looking at the machine itself, the information is not intuitive. The app let me know which stations were out service (2 of the 7) so I did not waste time setting up to charge. The price of kW depends on your location and time of day you charge. With AAA memberships, you automatically save 10% and have no fee to use these stations in absence of a EVgo membership. You can pay directly at the charging station if an app is not your thing. Once you establish an account, an EVgo card is created and mailed to you to use at the station in place of the app. You can also invite people to be a member with you under your plan, they will have access to your payments and plan rate If you're hungry or want to wander while you wait there is a Sprouts, Habit and a couple other eateries in the plaza. Across the street is a Starbucks and Kaiser. If you have enough time you can wander to Trader Joe's, Jamba Juice, Five Guys, Donuts and so much more. The location is easily accessible from the Pinole exit from either direction with lots to do if waiting in your car isn't your vibe.

The EVgo App shows an unnamed level 2 charger that has been offline basically forever, plus two 50 kW chargers, one of which (HOLLY) has also been offline basically forever. The charger that does work -- OSCAR -- has a single CCS Combo cable that's typically occupied nonstop as well as a CHAdeMO cable that would be of no help to me (and is usually occupied anyway). More generally, at least half of the chargers at any EVgo location seem to be offline at any given time. For example, consider the current situation at El Cerrito Del Norte Plaza: OKSSANNA has an offline left side cable and currently a working unoccupied right side cable (yay!) FREDDIE and KAMAL are both offline LIZ and MONTY are both online and busy Thus there are five chargers (with ten cables), 2 1/2 of which are offline. Four of the five working cables are busy. If I were traveling somewhere and wanted to plan a stop along I-80, I'd be reluctant to choose any EVgo locations in the East Bay: it's not fun to have to wait for a charge in the middle of a trip.
