But the real hidden gem is the free people watching. It is top tier. You will see stylish shoppers, not so stylish shoppers (yours truly) sleepy parents, tiny children weaving through the crowd like they pay taxes, and dogs who clearly believe this entire event was organized for them personally. The whole place has a fun, happy energy, and even if you came only for tomatoes, you will leave with a pastry, three unnecessary purchases, and at least one strong opinion about someone's hat. Also, pro tip: bring your kitchen knives to be sharpened while you shop. Nothing says "productive weekend" like artisan bread, fresh peaches, and a newly dangerous chef's knife.

Key card gives you access, via elevator, to the 7th floor where all the rooms are located. Door open to what feels like an apartment building. No reception desk, find your room by name and not number. Key card swiped near a number keypad on the wall opens the door. Room has 2 main areas and a bathroom, all spacious and clean. TVs allow you to login to your preferred streaming service. Room was quiet despite downtown location. Most of the suites looked the same to us with views and square footage the main differences. Seems that the thermostat was throttled overnight, which is a criteria we use when evaluating hotels. No coffee machine in the room. Shower temperature control is a bit "too vintage" and water was basically cold or boiling. All in all a worthwhile experience but we'd try other boutique spots in Birmingham before returning.

While this doesn't necessarily affect me, I've heard attendees complain about how the businesses close fairly early and if you're leaving an event in the area, there's nothing to eat or do. Overall, Uptown is a great place, but if you're wanting to eat here before a gameday or a concert, get here early!
