As much as insensitive, out of touch people, politicians, or organizations may feel, being reminded of the atrocities committed by their fore parents, we as Americans of indigenous/african descent must endure the pain of oppression, injustice inflicted on our fore parents and threatened to repeat every day, it's a part of our reality politically and socially. These museums provide us with a baseline for freedom deferred also the intestinal fortitude and courage that sustained us.

I don't eat beets and walnuts unfortunately. Also the rigatoni wasn't on the menu at all. So I got the hangar steak instead with potatoes and arugula. The steak was great and so was the arugula. But the potatoes were very oily and left a puddle in the middle of the plate that was spreading to the steak and arugula. We didn't have a reservation and they said they were fully booked so we sat at the bar and the service there was very good. They were constantly checking on us and filling our water. The decor was nice lots of big artwork on the walls and good music playing.

For those unfamiliar, the 16th Street Baptist Church is forever etched in history by a heartbreaking moment in time. It was a moment in the midst of the civil rights movement when a bomb exploded within the church, killing four young girls who were in the church at choir practice. As a parent who has lost a child, I understand how fleeting life can be, sadly all too often heartbreakingly fleeting, and I understand how precious of a gift life truly is. These girls were robbed of so much that lay before them. They would never know the joy of having children of their own, they missed so many if the highs and lows that define the adventure of life. They would never realize the culmination of a complete life. And for what? Hatred, a blind hatred and fear of a changing world. That does not mean they died in vain. Their lives were cut short, but in that short time, they left their mark upon this world. When my son died, I was lost and a part of me was dead beside him, but I realize that his life was not defined in his final moments, but instead Tyler's life was defined every day that he lived. Today I stood before this statue of four young girls, who, had they lived, they would be elderly women today. I stood before this statue and mourned the days and milestones they would never see. I whispered to the wind, I hope they knew happiness in their few years here and I hope that whatever awaits beyond, they are there looking down at a world they never got to see come to this fruition. Mostly, I wish those girls peace in that beyond, that their spirits not mourn for what was stolen from them, but for all they had in their few years. And I hope in that great beyond my son is seeing me as a man struggling to be what I wish he could have seen me as while he was here.

Me and my family were in a short statue in Birmingham and staying at the nearby Mariott hotel we decided to walk to the nearby civil rights sights and when we did we stumbled upon this mural almost immediately. Overall amazing piece that leaves a mark on you. Teaches valuable lessons and illustrates them very vibrantly. The artist did a great job conveying and showing there intended message.

This is surprisingly a nice park. I had no idea who Eddie Kendrick was. Luckily I was with my mom…read moreand she knew right away that he was one of the Temptations. He was the lead on such hits as "The Way You Do the Things You Do", "Get Ready", and "Just My Imagination". I was like wow. I know those songs. This is a nice tribute to Eddie. The park has a lot of benches with very good shade cover. It is a pocket park and not very big, but still pretty neat. The center piece of the park is a statue of Eddie on a stage with some singers in the background. It is very original and awesome. My mom said that it looked just like him. If you look closely you will see music notes on the ground in the path and names of temptation songs above the stage. There is a plaque in the park that tells a little about Eddie There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance from the park, which is free after 5PM. This is a very nice park that is near many attractions such as the 9/11 memorial garden, and the Civil Rights Museum. It is a decent place to hang out and the statue provides a unique photo opportunity. This park is well done and a nice tribute. It is definitely a must see if you are in the area.

Me and my family is on a quick stop in Birmingham on our road trip from Louisville to Destin and wanted to check out the nearby civil rights landmarks and sites in the area. After seeing those historic sights we stumbled upon this cool little memorial. Beautiful area with sidewalks filled of musical notes and a very cool statue of mr Kendrick and honors to him and the temptations. Overall very cool and fun park that I'm glad we stumbled across by accident. My kids had a lot of fun on the memorial stage and making clever poses.

I have never quite since a mural with this much writing or a pledge so it was cool to see. Me and my family was in downtown Birmingham on a day trip and we were leaving our hotel the Marriott to walk towards some of the civil rights sites nearby and walked right by this piece. Massive and very creative as mentioned above I've never seen anything with that type of layout. Very cool piece.
