Lol I'd never been to Avondale Brewery but the location is massive. Really nice stage and green space for relaxing, but of course the beer was the perfect accompaniment to the burgers we got to sample. 4 local restaurants all competing for voter's choice and I was so happy my choice ended up winning! (Craft Burger) seriously all of the options were delicious and the sample portions were a good size. There were even chips and tea/coffee for the non beer drinkers. It was super hot that day so I appreciated there being some tables and areas with shade and misters. The Live music was also really nice as well as meeting the different vendors (Top Golf & others), plus it's great knowing the proceeds from this event went to a great cause (ALS foundation). Awesome Saturday afternoon well spent.

We was headed from our hotel to the Vulcan statue when we passed this a few other murals through what I believe is known as the Avondale area of the city. This is a pretty cool mural and it reminds me of almost a greeting card or a wallpaper with the design. Im a sucker for any public art with positive messages and or dedications so I enjoyed this piece. Glad we stumbled upon it on our drive thru the city.

I haven't stayed at the hotels in the district since I'm a local, but maybe a staycation should be in my future. It's definitely a cool spot in the city. One recommendation I have would be for the restaurants to stay open later. While this doesn't necessarily affect me, I've heard attendees complain about how the businesses close fairly early and if you're leaving an event in the area, there's nothing to eat or do. I'm not sure what it would take to make this happen, but I think it's worth a try. Regardless, go visit Uptown!

I wish I could share more about this place, but unfortunately it was closed on Monday -- the only…read moreday we were in Birmingham. Since we couldn't go inside, I decided to walk across the nearby bridge to at least get a view from a distance. When it's closed, there really isn't a way to get much closer, so you're limited to exterior views only. From the photos and reviews others have posted, it looks like a really cool and educational spot, especially if you're interested in industrial history. It seems like the tours give you a great glimpse into what factory life looked like back when it was one of the biggest steel suppliers in the U.S. Knowing it operated for around 90 years before shutting down in 1971 makes it even more fascinating. Even though I didn't get the full experience, the scale of the structures and the history behind the site were still impressive from afar. I'd definitely plan to return on a day they're open to properly explore it -- it looks like a unique and worthwhile stop if you're in town.

A group that I am involved with , the bham babes had their annual picnic here. The grounds are well managed and the sculptures I saw were amazing! I highly recommend planning a visit here. Per their website, they offer guided tours Tues-Sat 10:30-2:00. I definitely plan on returning to learn more about the history of Birmingham, Al.

I don't eat here a lot, but about two or three times a year. (I've never really had bad food here but it's just not near my house.) The service is always been good here too because it's a small place. This is not expensive place and it's always busy. It's got a great atmosphere with a really cool outdoor space.

This place is in our beloved former neighborhood and though we didn't see anyone we knew, we felt welcomed, comfortable and enjoyed the great vibes. One tv had on funny videos and we got silly over them. The service was quick, despite the crowd, unobtrusive and attentive. I had a delicious and huge grilled chicken, baby greens, apple and pecan salad that lasted two days. My husband had the largest muffuletta sandwich ever!He ate that for several days. We didn't drink alcohol so the bill was quite modest. All in all, the stars converged at this special neighborhood place and we had a wonderful time. Our little dog was served a whole chicken breast! He was already happy and that made him delirious! It was quite memorable and so fun.
