Hidden gem located in the Plateau. The owners are two young and very friendly entrepreneurs and world travellers from Eritrea who started their adventure last November. They have chosen a beautiful name for their restaurant , Tessa, which means hope :-) The restaurant specializes in middle eastern sandwiches such as Falafel and Shawarma but also offer wraps, burgers and salads. I had the falafel sandwich and was extremely satisfied as the falafels were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside garnished with humus, pickles, cabbage and tahini just the way I like them garnished. Overall great experience and would go back for sure. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

Upon entering the restaurant, I'm instantly reminded of the late nights waiting at a halal cart in nyc after a night out. This restaurant itself is not the cleanest and rather chaotic on weekend nights. Theres usually a long line to order, but it moves rather quickly and efficiently. The staff members aren't the friendliest, but they get the job done LOL. You'll find a bunch of hungry and probably drunk people sitting at the cafeteria styled seats at night. The food is the main selling point here though. I've gotten the mixed platter and shawarma platter; both with generous servings of protein all doused in a flavorful sauce. Ordered the poutine recently and was also impressed how much they loaded the protein. It was a little on the saltier side and wished they had more cheese curds, but still pretty enjoyable. The fries were also more like small potato wedges. I've recommended this place countless times for almost any point of the day, but they especially hit the spot after a long night.

All of them had positive votes so had to give it a try. Although I became accustomed to ignoring this very block of Curé Labelle which usually consists of a 3-4 small restaurants one next to the other for a sole superstitious reason of it being jinxed. Jinxed in a sense that many small food businesses before them have come, tried, failed and left this spot. I certainly hope it won't be the case for this humble falafel joint. Tooth fairy? Hope you're reading this. In my opinion, this Lebanese falafel joint has one of the tastiest falafel sandwiches. I'm not sure what's that ingredient in their falafel which attracts me, may be coriander? Don't know, have to ask next time I'm there but whatever it is, it gives it a special unique twist that I find sets them apart from the competition. By the way, their concise menu's main common component in their other few offering is... you guessed it, falafel. They also have a salad or two I think but specialty is... yes that one. Glad that I found this joint. Clean, small, affordable and very tasty falafel sandwiches which I crave almost weekly on no meat days. Please go ahead and give them a try to find out for yourself. Who knows, you too might become a regular there like I have.

Last week we tried Tanoura for the first time and had an amazing experience!!…read more Tanoura is a cute family-owned Egyptian restaurant located in the West Island of Montreal. They usually have a dine-in option but their their dining area is currently closed due to covid. Nonetheless, you can still enjoy their delicious food by taking your food to go! You can also order their food on UberEats and Doordash! Based on the recommendations of the owner, we tried the following dishes: - Fava bean falafels - Mulukhiyah - Egyptian bread - Kushari (rice, lentils, chickpeas, noodles, tomato sauce and fried onions) - Bachamel (ground beef mixture, noodles and bachamel sauce) - Zalabia (puffy fritters soaked in syrup) This was our first time having Egyptian food and we were blown away. Everything was bursting with color and flavor. The falafels were incredible, especially when eaten inside the Egyptian bread and smothered with tahini (a spread made of ground sesame seeds). It was so good we bought ourselves a second serving to bring home!! The bachamel was also extremely delicious. They typically make it in a larger platter, which makes the dish great for catering and feeding big groups! And the zalabia was a perfect way to end the meal! The food alone merits a stellar review but the owners are what makes this place so special. Both of them were so welcoming and kind when we showed up, and took the time to make sure we were happy with the food. Miriam especially was super sweet and you could tell she truly loves what she's doing. Both of them are beautiful people and make Tanoura a beautiful place to eat. Overall, we had an amazing experience at this restaurant. We highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Egyptian cuisine in the West Island!!

Visiting Cairo! Egyptian food in the west island !  * video Swipe right*…read more They serve traditional egyptian cuisine and even a popular street food called Kushari.  It is basically a simple dish made with lentils, rice, pasta in a flavorful tomato sauce , topped with fried onions.   I enjoyed karkade juice. It is hibiscus juice prepared in its very egyptian way. The flowers are imported directly from Sudan and have all kinds of health benefits. The fava bean falafel was crispy  and served with tahini and the soup . I got the chance to taste molokhia soup, a green soup made from minced jews/jute mallow leaves and cooked in broth. The quality of the broth was there, simmered for hours. Had wedding dessert Om Ali made with phyllo dough, milk and nuts. There is no wedding without this desert. It is my first time having Egyptian cuisine. I usually have the known Lebanese cuisine. I was very happy about my experience. I think this is the closest traditional food I can get unless I get invited to a friend's house. Tanoura is owned by a lovely couple,  they ve been around for over 7 years. I saw pick ups from  elders egyptians. It is a good indicator. This restaurant have closed their dining section and so you will have to do pick ups. A good recommendation if you would like to try Mediterranean food/drinks/desserts from Egypt and you are in West Island or nearby.  *Ubereats, Doordash, Skip the dishes. . .
