As you walk in you are greeted to freshly made bakery, rolls and bread. They have a hot stand which keeps bacon rolls and many pasties warm. They also have a large range of sandwiches and salads. Usual groceries fresh vegetable, meat, tinned goods, frozen items are found here as well. It can get very busy and at times the queues can be known to go far along the aisles, but they move relatively fast. A very handy shop to have as the supermarkets are located out of the town centre.

Later, while on my ferry journey to Stornoway, I decided to look up the Tesco company and learned it was founded in 1919 and had operations outside of Scotland in a handful of countries including Hungary and Ireland. The inside of the store was straightforward to navigate and I got a few produce items, canned goods, and a small container of eggs. The prices were good and check out was simple with friendly workers. Products I bought were in good condition and served as snack and meal items both on the ferry ride to Stornoway and while in the Outer Isles until I replenished my supplies. Produce items and eggs were fresh and flavorful and the canned items and eggs easy to cook with.

There are fridges and a couple of freezers out the back which store some frozen food, as well as pies, freshly prepared salads and rice dishes, and other dairy products. There is also a good selection of tinned foods, as well as toiletries and household products. This, like I mentioned, is a god send to locals who can get there daily essentials to top them up until they do there big shop in the supermarket. They don't only do shopping, but there is also internet access available upon request, which is such a good key point especially with a caravan park just next to them, holiday makers can access the internet while on holiday. Excellent!!! It is easy to access especially as there is a car park directly opposite the shop. The only tiny thing i would say is when it's busy, because of the layout of where the tills are, when there is a queue it's hard to get from the fridges over to the shelves with the tins. But this is only a tiny little nit pick. It's an excellent little shop.

This shop literally has everything you could need without having to travel over to Stornoway. Fresh fruit and vegetables greet you as you walk in. They have many items like nails, tape, screws, and hose parts. They have a large range of toiletries as well. They have a good selection of canned and frozen goods and the back corner is where they sell the alcohol. They also make home made items such as pasties, cold-slaw, curries, bread and pies which are delicious and amongst the best you can get on the island. If you are in Ness it is well worth a visit!

Borve Mini Market is the wee grocers shop between Ness and Barvas and to be honest unless I am in…read moredesperate need of something I tend to avoid it. I do not know what it is about the place but it is not great. It is in need of a make over as it is quite dark and dreary looking inside. In saying that it does have its positives. They have two petrol/diesel pumps, the next one is not until Barvas. The shop has plenty groceries and fresh bread/rolls. They are open Monday until Saturday 9am until 530pm. There isn't much room for parking but it's usually quiet so it shouldn't be too much of a problem is stopping in.
