We were looking forward to see how the new Tesco store would be on Wragby Rd after watching the extensive timber build come together.
The building is amazing, the new revolving tills and self service a bit Star Trek and innovative, the store massive with extended choices in most things, however....
There is a franchise restaurant on a balcony floor that does not work. Loads of staff to show you to your table but you are not told to help yourself at the food counter. The menus lack clarity in what food is available, Despite the number of friendly staff, the salad bar was empty and sad looking, they had run out of various meals / puddings and there was nobody refilling the food containers. For the number of staff, the food was pretty rubbish and the floor area too small to accommodate many disabled people, speaking of which....
Tesco have created a whole car park separately for disabled / mother and child, outside the front door, nearest the entrance? Nope, around the side, making toddling kids and walking wounded furthest away from the entrance? More a problem when they leave with shopping trying to look after kids or disabled people trying to get shopping back to their cars.
The toilets, one week into their launch, the soap containers were empty, despite a nice area, already dirty mirrors, splashes everywhere and as long as you don't mind an open plan entrance that reveals the toilet doors within, a bit too personal for my liking.
So, loads of staff (too many probably) lots of innovation, but lots of teething problems that I can see changing.
Other good points though! Tesco have their own optition, saves going to town or waiting for appointments elsewhere, their range of specs is good and modern, Ray Ban and Titanium being at great BOGOF deals.
Give it a month and i guess most will be ironed out, but I wouldn't go to the restaurant again without advertised changes. read more
