They have an excellent bakery and cake section- is it just me or does this Waitrose have more biscuits on offer than usual- temptation! The butcher's counter is also brilliant, as ever in Waitrose, with some of the most helpful staff- I know nothing about meat as a vegetarian, so they were a great help when I was trying to buy something for boyfriend- they advised me on some cheap but yummy cuts.

Using my sat nav just to try find a grocery shop and I passed budgens and as I was trying to find a safe place to turn around I happen to find Tesco which to my delight had a big car park which was sign posted very well! So I got a great spot next to the entrance and at first grabbed a basket as I knew this was a small store but just going down one aisle I then decided I needed a trolley as there was more items you can get through this store! I ended up doing my whole weekend shopping which was great for me as I didn't have to venture anywhere else and the queues for the till was very short and staff were very friendly!

As you step inside, a vigorous perfume of cinnamon, orange peel and sandalwood pervades your senses as your eyes adjust to the dim glow and you realise that this is a grocer, apothecary and gift shop all rolled into one. The food area of the shop is to the front, and it sells a very wide range of herbs and spices as well as 'organic sustenance' in the form of dry goods and fresh vegetables. They also sell crusty fresh bread from the Real Patisserie, which goes so well with the rest of the shop that you'd almost think it was part of the decor. To the rear of the shop is a home ware, gifts and clothes section, selling polka dot milk jugs, wooden toys and silk scarves, and all manner of little decorative bits and bobs. The owner was genial and helpful, and left us to browse undisturbed. It's not the sort of place I'd come to pick up something for lunch, but I'd definitely return for spices, biscuits, unusual ingredients and advice. I shall have to bring a wicker basket though, and accessorise with a couple of wolfhounds and a briar pipe.

My friends who live locally love this place, as they get access to a vast range of fresh produce - especially the aubergine, fenugreek, and garlic - yes the garlic is also cheaper here than other places, the coriander and mint are also very fresh and lasts longer than other places I have bought from. You can also get samosa's naan and other classic indian ingredients for all your cooking needs. Whats refreshing about this place is that it exists! Petts Wood has a lot of large franchises, such as Sainsburys, Iceland Morrisons etc...so its good to have a local business around the corner with more authentic produce. Hurrah for local business!

What I do Love about this place, are the flap jacks... only 65p and slightly more filling than your average chocolate bar, these rule big time... And they come in a decent variety of flavours and all, so everyone's a winner! Also, if you're a bus goer, they frequently sell weekly tickets in discounted bundles here! I got 4 week saver tickets for £30 here once! That worked out as £7.50 a week, witch is a damn site better than £3.50 a day I can tell you... As you'd expect, these are constant demand though, so trying to be one of the lucky few is a constant ambition rather than a guarantee. Aside from food and travel, there's a nice selection of stationary on offer and a plethora of clothes adorned with Sussex Uni name and logo. And a lot can be said for the range of birthday cards, which are mostly designed by card makers local to Brighton & Hove. It can sometimes be a tad expensive in here, and they haven't quite learnt how to handle the queues at the beginning of the term, when students are all eager and willing to learn - it's much quieter after about 3 weeks of term time.
