Large Tesco in Dumfries. This store is HUGE. For American reference, bigger than a Super Target or Super Walmart. Like I said Big. I needed to pick up cold meds because I've caught a summer flu. They don't carry the things I'm used to, so I had to find comparables. One thing I did find, that seems to be universal is Elderberry syrup. Once I had my necessities, I popped over to the magazine area and found the coolest coloring book, Witches. But it's not typical, no big hooked noses and black hats. No these are more goth & Nordic images. They're cool. And of course I had to get twist up crayons, which they had a set for £10. Hey this place is a shoppers menagerie. I cannot possibly like this place despite Tesco's attempts to try and convince their loyal shoppers that they are an ethical and caring business. Shopping here just makes their empire bigger and ready to destroy a high street in your town. read more

This is a Tesco Extra so as you can imagine it is pretty big. As any Tesco shopper will know, stores are pretty much a carbon copy of each other and this is no exception. There are departments selling: Mag, papers, sandwiches etc Stationery Basic housewares e.g. kitchen ware, towels, bathroom items Small electricals Some large eletricals but mainly just entertainment items DVD's and books Toiletries, make up, hair care, perfumes Tons of food (obviously) Clothes and there is a cafe. Now, I know that there are many who say Tesco are evil, they are taking over the world and that they are crippling local business. This I understand, but somehow I can't stop going there. They are just too good at what they do. This store has a massive car park which makes it very easy to visit. The store has pretty much everything a person could ever need and it is cheap! Oh and there is a petrol station and car wash too! The recent credit crunch has meant that we have had to tighten our belts and I have to say Tesco have helped. Once a Tesco Finest snob we have recently been buying some Tesco Value items and I am really impressed (I hope my MSE friends are proud). I can't imagine anyone being able to tell the difference between the Value chopped tomatoes and any big brand in a blind taste test. Although the difference in your receipt will be substantial. All in I think Tesco is a necessary evil. They probably do have too much power, there probably are too many stores in our towns and they probably have caused many little local stores to close. Does exactly what it says on the tin. From clothing to kitchenware, cards to cook books, Tesco has it all. You can even pick a dishwasher or wide screen TV alongside your groceries. From their Finest to Value range, it provides decent necessities to suit all pockets. The staff are friendly, the stock (usually) plentiful and parking ample. The cafe serves decent enough food for the price and is handy if you have a protein crash mid shop! If you spend over 50GBP then you get 5p per litre off petrol which comes in very handy. You also get points get turned into vouchers. You can then either redeem them in store (if you save them up it take the bite out of your Christmas shop) or exchange them (at up to four times their face value) for tickets for days out etc. Sparks do fly at this Tesco as the static from the trolleys is terrible - and it would be nice if they had a trolley where two babies could sit side by side. read more

Tesco Stores - Grocery Near Me - Dumfries, DGY

This is a large Tesco with a typically varied range of goods made in far flung countries with which to tempt you which is great if, like me you're broke, although you could probably get better quality goods from charity shops if you were willing to sacrifice the time. Generally speaking I find Tesco to be overpriced and a tad expensive and the same is true for this store, although with the plentiful availability of parking it does make the trip somewhat easier when you've got the kids in tow. Add in the petrol station and it's a one stop shop for those with a little extra cash. For my money though I think I'll stick to the discount grocers with their non-household names but just as good goods which seems to be conducive to the elimination of impulse purchasing which this type of Tesco is exactly geared up to achieve. read more

I have visited this store, and I liked the layout of the store, actually it is the 2nd best store which I have ever visited and I wouldn't mind shopping in there, but it is too far away from my home area!!! I dropped in this store, as I was lost in the region of Dumfries, so I was in this store asking for help for directions. The staff in there are very friendly, even my family have stopped by for a coffee. It is strangely placed in the region of Dumfries, but it is Dumfries after-all! read more
