Yes that's right, I am vegetarian. And this butchers gets 5* from me!…read moreBasing my review on my experience in the shop and what my meat eating men said about the produce. My dad told me pay a visit to this butchers after buying a piece of machinery from them for our bakery and then finding out how much AWARD WINNING produce they have! I got told to get the award winning bacon and Cumberland Sausages. So, in we walk and I have never seen so many award winning signs in my life! What to choose??? Let's start with the Cumberland sausages - two kinds, both please! And then to the choice of bacon, well, how do people choose?? We opted for the black treacle cured back bacon (award winning obviously) and Adam Y chose the oak smoked back bacon. All the bacon was boasting not to leave that nasty white stuff in your pan. While we were here we picked up some award winning pies too. Pork Pie, Peppered Steak Pie and Chicken Pie. All of which looked perfect (coming from a baker, that's a HUGE compliment) and i am told they tasted just as good! The service we received whilst in the shop was second to none. Enough said. If you are ever passing Windermere town (and you eat meat) you must pay Huddlestons a visit! x

'The most memorable thing about Windemere was a "Cornish" pasty I bought from Huddlestone's Butchers in Windemere. It was so good I returned to the shop to tell them so, and the man said he had obtained the recipe from an old friend of his in Cornwall, who had recently retired, and finally parted with his secret recipe. So if you are in the Lake District, and craving for a "genuine" Cornish pasty, go along to Huddlestone's Butchers in The Avenue, Windemere.' I am so pleased that they have been recognised as the 'Premier' in 2016. Congratulations to all at Huddlestones. And yes, I can still remember how good it was. And I still live in Cornwall. This is my favorite health food shop ever - it has tons of great stuff…read more I've just been to the store today so everything that's good about it is fresh in my mind. This shop seems to have lots of things that the other health food stores locally don't stock. There is always a great selection of baking ingredients, tins, sauces, snacks, treats, fridge items, frozen items, oils, medicines, herbs, cleaning products, spices etc etc. They also have fresh fruit and veg and a cheese counter. Oh, and the stock lots of items for making your own wine. I am a veggie who has lots of allergies including dairy, root veg and a few other random things. Whilst I am well used to this, I can still get frustrated at my restricted diet. So shops like this one are my idea of heaven. Today my basket contained pea soup (root veg free), dairy free chocolate spread, veggie sausages, dairy free 'cheese', nut luncheon (sounds horrible but looks good), gram flour and rock salt. I can't think of any other shop where I could have purchased such a diverse selection in one place. I did ponder for some time over the 4 different flavours of dairy free ice cream and dairy free cornettos in the freezer but decided chocolate spread was treat enough for one week! The people in the store are friendly and helpful and always seem pleased to see how thrilled I am finding new products. Another thing that is good about this store, they always seem to be trying new products instead of going in to the same old same old every time. They also stock some local items which I always think is a good thing. The only thing that stops this store getting a 5 star rating from me is the fruit and veg. Whilst everything else is fabulous, the fruit and veg always looks a bit past it's best. This was the same today when I noticed some poorly looking lemons shriveled up in a basket. I am sure the store are just trying not to waste food as they are clearly very ethical. However, this does put me off buying those items a little. Having said that, it doesn't put me off the store at all. Well worth a visit. NOTE - This store stocks Sheese (dairy free cheese). Until recently I had no alternative to cheese in my diet as the products on the market tasted like cardboard! However, I have recently discovered Sheese from Bute Island Foods and it is awesome. This store often has a small selection from the range and is worth visiting for that alone.
