Definitely the quality of their stuff is better, so their prices are higher. Beautiful scarves and capes though. Their tweed jackets are so beautifully tailored. The one on the half a head dummy looked beautiful, ok my description of the display may not be selling it to you but it was a really pretty and unusual looking piece of jewellery. This shop is probably more mother of the bride by looking at the outfits on display. They do have a good range of accessories, from fasinators, handbags, scarfs and jewellery. The ladies were very helpful and the lady who initially served me got the necklace from the shop window for me. It was a little more than I would have liked to have spent but it really was pretty and would go perfectly with my outfit. So next time you're in Hamilton ladies have a wee look. It does feel very intimate as it's a small sized shop but it's very brightly lit and you can see in through the window display, so I would window shop first before heading in. By the way there's no way you'll get 'Madonna Voguing' here, a wee disappointed but I'll get over it. I just keep it all in my head instead. Vogue!

It might be a little bit out of the city, but it is truly worth the ride! Housing a wide variety of more modern dresses to classic 1940/50s women's clothing, hats and accessories, this place is perfect for anyone looking to get all dolled up for a special occasion. It is more expensive than the usual vintage places I review, but I have to admit that they have earned it. They have a main dress room, an accessories room and two rooms set aside for wedding outfits - both for brides and for very stylish guests (and mothers!) It may be niche, but gosh darn they have totally nailed it! I love that they know their market and their strengths, and it's really great to see that it was super busy even on a weekday afternoon, which just goes to show that it is a great destination for occasion wear. I'm really happy to share that the staff are really lovely and know a lot about the history of the pieces they're selling (I do love to chat about that whenever I'm buying a second hand piece!) I ended up purchasing my first ever vintage hat here - a ridiculously beautiful powder pink 1940s fascinator complete with the fluffiest ostrich feather I have ever laid eyes on. It's in extremely good condition (to the point I'm certain it's only been worn once or twice and it has been living in a very well to do hat box for the past 70 years) and I was thrilled to bits to learn that was made in bonny Fife! For those of you who are wondering, a treasure like this only cost me £38, but I guess I'm one of the few people who would dare to go out to dinner in one of these still ;)

A place I'd like to spend more time…read more What I initially thought would be an overpriced charity shop, selling trivial odds and ends, surprised me in the best of ways. The little time I spent there I was able to find some wonderful, and charming pieces of furniture and decor. Having been looking for a larger mirror for my flat for a while I was blown away when I found a large gilded framed mirror which has the Disney's Snow White, magic mirror feel. And best if all it did not cost me a fortune. In fact everything is well priced and charming. I really would like to come back here soon to have a bit more time to look around. Lastly and also very importantly the staff are so approachable and kind natured. They seem genuinely happy to be doing what they are doing and some of them voluntarily. Chie Chie sells a range of really unique clothes and accessories and whatever the occasion you are buying for, Chie Chie will have the perfect outfit for it. This shop sells lots of high quality clothing, particularly dresses and work outfits such as smart trousers and blouses. They offer a very eclectic range of fashions and materials, such as silk dresses and cashmere cardigans. Because of the quality nature of the clothes they sell, Chie Chie's clothes are a tad on the pricey side, but you know that whatever you bu it is going to last a long time. The sales assistants were friendly and happy to help. If you are looking for something different and want to break away from the trend of buying clothes from the high street stores, Chie Chie is a fantastic place to shop at.

Inside, the clothes were just as gorgeous as I'd expected from the window. It's so annoying when you go somewhere only to find that all the good stuff is in the window and everything inside just doesn't live up to your expectations. Thankfully, this certainly wasn't the case here. I was greeted by the shop assistant as soon as I entered, it made the place a lot more relaxed and the shop assistant was happy to let me browse at my leisure. I noticed some stunning dresses a little black number in particular caught my eye but it was a little bit out of my price range. The clothing is Chie Chie is gorgeous and individual and if you're looking for a special outfit then pop in to see what's on offer.

Next at Straiton has recently expanded and is much better! The new store is an absolute labyrinth…read moreand I found myself getting lost many times. On the ground floor, there is womenswear, childrenswear, furniture and Beaverbrooks the jeweller. When you walk in, there is a big double height ceiling which really opens up the place! Upstairs pays host to menswear and homewares. There is also a Paperchase (yay!) and a small Costa Coffee. (yay again!) There are also toilets up here which are clean, spacious and bright. My favourite thing has got to be the furniture department because you are free to sit on the sofas and pretend you live a perfect life while you sip your Costa coffee. I was very impressed with the size of the shop and the Paperchase and Costa were doing a roaring trade with queues stretching out round through the shop. I'm glad that the old cramped store is now gone and we have this new one to serve us!
