Holy supermarkets! Mr. Snarky and I are still debating on whether this is larger than the Horwich one or not. I think it is either the same size or a bit smaller... I think the most impressive part of it is the fact that it is mostly above the car park. As you turn in, there is a KFC, Aldi, and yes, there is a football stadium next door. I guess we will have to continue to look up matches in order to avoid the home game crowd.
Of course, there is a Tesco Petrol Station on site, along with a separate area for Click and Collect customers. They also have some large recycling dumpsters, which come in handy when you move into your new place and discover that all of your bins are full :/ A large part of the car park is covered and I have to say, days like today make me wonder why more places don't have covered car parks. The downside seems to be that people with souped up cars and loud motorbikes like to race through the covered car park... you know that whole showing off thing. So just watch out as you cross... and when you are pulling out of parking spots.
When you enter, watch out for the collection of trolleys... it makes the area quite congested. There is a Subway, travel agency, and Greggs before you ascend on the travelator. On the main floor, there is also a Costa near the front next to the tills and the Tesco Cafe is at the back of the store, right above the electronics section. They also have a handy, dandy section with clearance clothing, which I have yet to explore. There is also a Timpsons on that floor, that also offers mobile phone repair.
There is a nice, large home section, as well as a large clothing section. The food section is pretty standard although I have to say, a couple times now they have been out of food... nearly the entire butter section was empty on the last visit. So I'm not a fan of having to stop somewhere on the way home to pick up items that I cannot get at this massive store. I also have found the bread/bakery section to be a bit on the small side and while there are new items to try, some of my old favourites, like Sourdough Bloomers are missing from the selection.
Their world foods section is the smallest I have seen in a Tesco Extra (this is why I am convinced it is smaller than the Horwich store) and sadly there is no American section :/ Guess I'm going to have to find another place to get my ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner. Overall, I think it is going to become our new, main grocery store... and it isn't bad... especially when you can get a sausage roll downstairs, but it would be nice not to have to make additional stops on the way home because their shelves are empty. read more
