I had always thought this was akin to a mega store judging from its size from the outside when I drive past. Today, I had the opportunity to pop in for a look and quick browse around. Surprisingly, the inside isn't quite as cavernous as I thought. Taken with the high shelves and slightly muted lighting, this makes for a slightly claustrophobic feel to the place. The range of goods is also not as big as the nearby Tesco and Sainsbury superstores. However, having said that, what I loved about ASDA are their low prices. The goods I bought today are definitely and substantially cheaper than at nearby Tesco. By the way, shoppers of the world, beware! In case you haven't read the Sunday Times expose from 2 weekends ago, Tesco is trying to fool by announcing a cut in price of hundreds of store items. What they've really done is to cut these prices by a few pence whilst hiking up the price of a lot of other commonly bought goods by a lot more. This sort of sharp practice and treating customers as mugs is rightly costing them market share. While not as blown away as I thought I would be, the prices still made me leave a happy shopper

At the sausage bar they'll kindly let you try before you buy and they go to great 'lengths' to help you understand what's what. The gateaux and cake selections are also quite marvellous. I took an old school dark chocolate cherry gateaux to an Easter picnic and needless to say there were slim pickings when it came to having seconds. On another occasion a dense biscuity brick of a cheesecake was quite satisfactory among friends too! I promise you, you'll go wild in the aisles here and it's a great incentive to learn some Polish to find out what other potentially delicious treats are hiding behind the mysterious pretty packagings. I wouldn't want to offend anyone's Babcia but more of them ready made deli fresh pierogis to go are coming home with me next time!

Overall, I believe that they've delivered on that promise. This Wimbledon store is a good size but can't compete on floorspace with the giant Sainsburys Savacentre or the Tesco Extra store nearby. However, it's a good size for a town centre supermarket. They have a nice selection of food counters where you can buy and eat at the tables provided. Alternatively you can take home a ready made meal such as fresh pizza to be cooked at home. I like their fish counter very much and I tend to find more interesting fish and seafood here than at their competitors. I've bought fresh oysters, octopus and sushi grade fish here. They will scale and prepare any of the fresh fish for you. Similarly the butchers seem to know what they're talking about. The rest of the store is quite generic. One trick I feel they're missing is a loyalty scheme like Tesco's Clubcard

Buckle up boys and girls because this little market is going to take you for a ridiculous journey…read moredown the craft beer rabbit hole. Freshfields Market is a small easily overlooked corner shop that looks like it's only used during those times in desperation (i.e., when all the other shops are closed and you NEED an obscure herb.) WRONG. Freshfields Market has an ASTONISHING array of local and international craft beers. Seriously, there is a whole freaking WALL devoted to the fine art of artisanal brews. From the well known craft breweries like Thornbridge to the distinctly local like Cronx, Freshfields has a dizzying selection of beers that would make even the most casual of drinkers tingle with excitement. Every time my husband and I visit we stand in front of the shelves like the proverbial kids in a candy shop unable to make a decision on which of the beers to try. It is no secret that I enjoy my beer. I brew it, I'm looking for a career in it... and this, man... this shop makes me feel like a child. It makes me excited to be a part of a growing demographic of young professionals who are looking to push the boundaries of brewing. Moreover, makes me excited as a consumer to see what was once a dwindling selection of ales suddenly explode into an interest in the "traditional" beer of England. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the selection Freshfields have got your back. They've hired a seasoned-drinker and well-educated staff member to help you pick out the perfect beer for your palate. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. They not only carry bottled beer but also they have the option of purchasing four pint carry outs that are tapped from two barrels so you get your beer straight from the barrel and not bottle conditioned. As far as the prices go, they're about the price you would expect to pay for craft beer - which is to say not that cheap. However, the last two times I have gone they have done a deal on craft beers - something like 6 craft beers for £12, I can't remember. Either way, this little corner shop may seem to be like any other but don't let the outside fool you, inside it is Croydon's very own craft beer Valhalla and if it suits you, I would go on a pilgrimage as soon as possible.

Literally. The renovations were undertaken without closing the store and whilst I admit I did stop shopping here while they were being carried out, I returned, opening day, with a fist full of vouchers to entice me back. You now have to queue to get in the car park. But...it's worth it and they now have car park assistants who direct you to spaces (layout has changed in the car park and disabled bays are now near the main doors). Outside is the same except for the swanky new Giraffe restaurant we are lucky to have in Watford now... But that deserves its own review later! Inside. Customer services is in same place, bit small and under staffed for a super store perhaps. There's a new 'scan and shop' section which I still need to try but I see a lot if peeps are using it. Food to go area is fab. Think salad bar to help yourself, loads if sarnies to chose from and pre packed salad and sushi goodies. Also it's a good section to nip to if picnicking. Plus there's self serve tills for this section alone so it's super convenient. The new bakery. Wowsers. So middle class and rustic. I lurve. Wooden table a la farm house laden with baked goods and hearty loaves. Also a counter with lots of posh desserts (quite pricey) and cakes. It's quite hard to grasp this is now where all bread and cakes are though. But it's early days. The toilet is in this section. No sign though. Annoying. And only one in whole hench store which is disappointing. Harris and Hoole. Love the look. Great lattes. Will sample food am sure. Always busy and not keen on the buzzers they give you to wait for coffee. Bit ott. But there's a coffee cart directly outside store so I usually grab one there as less busy. Florence and Fred. Happy days. This section looks amazing. Trolleys are able to mooch the aisles and it really feels like a proper clothes store, better fixtures and layout/feel than Marks or Next. And stock is great, fab designs and cheap as chips. I always come away with something. Fitting rooms are spacious too. Rest of store super laid out. New pizza counter (still not a patch on Asda's counter pizzas though- listen up Mr Tesco!). Fruit and veg section is epic, so spacious and easier to navigate than before. Make up and health sections look great as does home wears. Proper department store vibes. Loving. Dangerous for my bank balance. Opticians and pharmacy both helpful and knowledgable. Tills are still bit queuey but lots of people are checking out the store so busier than usual I think. Defo worth a visit. You can spend a whole day in here which I guess is the point as it has a destination shopping feel now. They even do yoga and kids classes here. Massive thumbs up!!
