This branch of Tesco Express is in a good location, and is located within Mayfair in London, and is a good place to go to grab, essentials when you are in the area, or just something you'd like for your hotel room (water, milk etc)
With no reviews since 2013, a new one is definitely needed, one thing I am pleased to report, is that Alex S, hit the nail on the head, the range here for an express store is fantastic, with even sausages being sold here, and a good range of free from items, although I was disappointed to see no bread, they did have a very good range of biscuits, which is pleasing to see as smaller stores normally sacrifice them.
This store does have a very good range, which compared to other branches of Tesco Express, is something to shout about, and I don't know how they do it, with such an impressive range in such a small space.
A few negatives however
- The size of the store is very small, and it can get a little crowded, they isn't much room to add more tills, even though a scan it yourself is needed, but they do seem to get through the rush, in quite quick manner.
- Some items here are typical London pricing, with some price rises, compared to what I'm used to in Manchester, but still some of the items with the price rises, wouldn't be available at a store of this kind in Manchester anyway, but still a slightly higher price, on items that are already quite pricey, such as bottled Starbucks drinks, isn't really acceptable
- The gluten free range could be improved by adding more essentials such as bread, even if it means selling a few less packs of biscuits, as this adds variety, so non-sweet eaters can get some bread, especially if someone is staying in a hotel nearby, it is good to be able to grab this, hence you can have your breakfast with bread.
I do feel 3 stars is fair, this is a nice store and especially good for a Tesco express, but it can feel very crowded at times, and then it makes a nice store, turn into not a great place, especially when you are chasing people to get ahead in the queue. If the store was slightly bigger, and they was more room to get about, I would have liked to give 4 stars, but mainly due to the size, I feel the highest I can give is three.
UPDATE: I called in here towards the evening and I found their to be no milk, I was shocked, I was told that the day before the fridges has broke but I still was able to get milk, but on my most recent visit the fridges seemed to be working and they had no milk at all, in my opinion they should have tried to get milk in at all costs, and not go a day without it, I'm not saying they was wrong to get rid of milk that was left out and probably went off, but considering their reasonable range of other products that you don't really look in an "Express" store for, not having milk, which is one of the main things you'd go in this store, is unacceptable, and I feel for this reason showing a lack of organization and prioritization a demotion to 2 stars, helps to put this store down to a more deserved level. read more
