Going to Asda is rarely a classy experience, but even by their low standards this is scraping the…read morebottom of the barrel. First of all it's an absolute whopper, with a George in it and everything. But that's not all: it's got a McDonald's (?!) in the entrance. And it's in Bedminster. Chuck all these factors together and you have one big hive of scum and villainy. I rarely shop here, indeed I mainly come here annually to do my pre-Glastonbury Festival shop. And it's quite handy that I come then, as this is the only time that my trolley fits in with the local clientele, being as it is filled with lager, chocolate bars, vodka, crisps and bacon. This may sound like I'm being unfairly snobby, but there are really a disproportionally high number of weirdos in here. May favourite examples are the customer who repeatedly berated me for pushing in after I moved from one queue to the back of a shorter queue, and the manager (!) who asked me to leave the store after she refused to sell me a Sunday morning paper as the checkouts didn't officially open for another five minutes. Avoid.

Aaarrrgghhh I hate this place, I'm not sure if it's all Asda's or just this location but I would…read morerather double my shopping bill than shop there! I used to live in Bedminster so had little choice but now luckily I'm in Fishponds so rarely go in there. But that makes the whole experience ten times worse as I don't know where anything is!! It's too big, it sells too much stuff, it's too busy and the general clientele and staff are extremely annoying! I approached two young staff as they were having a chat about holidays to ask where I'd find something, I was told to wait a moment as they finished their conversation! They actually stood there in front of me brazen as anything and continued to talk about their holiday! I walked out swearing under my breath!

Well I have to say i'm a little shocked no one else has written a review about this little gem!…read more This fruit and veg shop is fantastic, it's shaped like a horseshoe, you enter in one end, your nose filled with the smells of so many glorious fresh fruits and vegatables, you have a little nosey around as you make your way around the horseshoe and then you come out the other end after your magical healthy journey and pay for your goods. The price is fantastic and I truely hope that the supermarkets don't squash this shining beacon of what is so great about buying local produce. The front of the shop is red lettering and white background and is listed as 'Fruit market' above the exite and 'EAST STREET fresh fruit and veg' above the entrance - please take note, we can't be doing with people ruining thier perfect system!

"Get your strawberries" is currently what you'll hear being shouted by the grocers on East Street…read more It brings me back to my student days walking down Henry Street in Dublin. Its not a middle class farmers market, its a proper old fashioned market, with fresh and delicious smelling and tasting fruit at bargain prices. It also has a gorgeous array of plants for sale out front. I keep being tempted by them but am usually on my bike when I go to the market. In a world where local supermarkets sell overpriced bland fruit and veg grown in far flung corners of the world it is encouraging to see such a fantastic market still surviving despite the large Asda down the road. Its got character, cheap prices and delicious produce. Well worth turning your nose up at the inferior supermarket produce and taking the extra stroll up East Street to get some tasty treats. Craving some fresh strawberries now!!

When all my male friends are filling their faces with kebabs and chips at the end of a boozy evening, me and the girls can be found deliberating over the big bar of chocolate or the massive bar of chocolate, A surprisingly social place to meet new people at the end of evening. It's also great for nearby students who are desperately trying to finish dissertations and have run out of much needed coffee. It's not cheap by any means, sometimes a pint of milk has set me back over £1, but I can never argue paying their prices at 4am.

However, they do have some decent deals on throughout the year, usually seasonal offers which seem a good idea at the time but when you think logically about it, don't seem such a bargain after all. Cooperative is fine if youre in a rush to get all your essentials in one place, but the area by the harbour boasts so many great sandwich/baguette joints that it would be a shame to spend more money on less quality.
