So I called them again, he showed up that day , I explained what it was doing (growling loudly then shutting off, we walked around to the unit, NEVER took off a panel, never hooked up any gauges ( i was watching) then after about 20-25 seconds stated " That's what I thought, you are out of Freon, so i questioned how Freon would make it growl and shut off, He stated " Freon is like oil in a car engine, if it is empty, the unit wont start" . So I asked how much will it cost to fix it. ( I know my unit is older) He stated " Well, it will be $700 just for the Freon and another $400 for the part, then it will not last for over probably a month" I said oh, so what do we do? He said, you will need to replace the entire unit. I had him give me an estimate in writing, which was over $7,300. ( on the service order he wrote Found leak in system somewhere needs new system). FOUND A LEAK SOMEWHERE?? SO i said we have a home warranty, I will contact them just to see what they will do. THANK GOD I did. They had me get a second opinion, which I did the next day. It was the BLOWER MOTOR that was out causing the growling sound, the FREON WAS FINE. Had them replace it $300.00 and It works great now. Maybe he saw an opportunity to take advantage of an out of towner or what not sure, but I will not be using them again. I sent the warranty company copies of all their tickets AND copy of the ticket of the company that fixed it.
