If Green Day shop here, it's the Punk North…read more Park North is not too far from the North Star Mall and is an outdoor mall with some popular stores and tons of traffic and not too much in the way of parking spots and it also has a few little cute places like the Vietnamese French bakery that we like to come too and we are here as I'm actually writing and this is a long sentence is it not. All in all it's a great addition to the Northside of San Antonio and somewhere that we come quite often even though it's so hard to get in and out of and watch out for really bad drivers running you down when you're walking across the parking lot and this was another long sentence amirite. And if pirates shop here, it's Plank North. This is a really elaborate and shiny new Plaza with has a bunch of trendy stores and some cool places to eat, a massive movie theater and all the good stuff. Getting in and out of here is a nightmare and none of the parking spots are under shade which sucks In the heat of San Antonio. Lots of concrete and not very warm. Not very cool. Our favourite thing here is the Savoreaux Patisserie which has good Vietnamese products and Banh Mi sandwiches and Vietnamese iced coffee and the like. We always come here when we are in San Antonio and will continue to do so. It's sad what they did with the beautiful, traditional stuff that was here before they built this mega-complex. And if Ashton Kutcher shops here, it's Prank North.

This is a great shopping center! I'm really happy about this center being part of my neighborhood…read more Reata does the leasing on it, and they've done a good job of filling the place up with fun tenants. There's a variety of dining options, from Zoe's to Stoneworks and Sushi Zushi! They have high end shopping and all kinds of great things that you can always use around the home. Parking is easy, and there's plenty of ingress/egress points along Basse and Broadway, and even the back streets. I am happy with the fact that they have some outdoor amenities that aren't required for a shopping center, but are nice additions. They have outdoor benches with beautiful landscaping. There's an outdoor fountain (that I've never seen full of water) with some benches to watch people getting their taxes filed. There's 24 hour security around here, they keep a good eye over what's going on around here, so I feel safe. I wish that they had more bike parking.

It's nice how much shade there is from all the foliage here. It also includes the shops over on the other end of the parking lot, like a great burger shop, a dry cleaner, a coffee shop, and an awesome sandwich shop. It can be a bit of a pain getting in and out of this shopping center. It's at a weird 6-way intersection at the entrance of Alamo Heights. The lights here can take forever to change. If you're attempting to come at this place from Sunset & N New Braunfels, that light changes like the seasons. My favorite thing about this shopping center is the public work of art that they've installed on the corner of the 6-way intersection, a monument to the underappreciated moth. The moth monument is larger than life, and colorfully reminds us of the moth's importance to the neighborhood.

281 & 1604 shopping center! This is a large center located…read moreat the southeast corner of one of the busiest intersections in town, the 281 & 1604 interchange. It's not as busy anymore, now that they built that huge flyover that crosses in front of this center. It's easy to access from either highway, and has lots of chain stores. The center is anchored by HEB, but also has Academy Sports and Marshall's as major tenants. There's always lots of parking with a huge lot. navigating the lot can be a bit frustrating with all the stop signs and speed bumps, and lack of signage. It's a bit dangerous pulling out from here onto the 281 northbound access road, I see accidents through here all the time. Be careful when pulling out on to the frontage road. As far as I can tell, there aren't any local independent stores in here.

The square of the north! This shopping center is a big…read moreneighbor power center. This particular one is anchored by Best Buy. It's a combination of several strip shopping centers centered around a large parking lot that's been cut in two. It's rather inconvenient that the parking lot is divided into two. They're a slightly different elevations, and there's only one way to cut through from one lot to the other at a four-way stop. The egress into the shopping center from the 410 frontage road seems a bit on the dangerous side, where you have to exit the freeway, cut across two lanes of traffic in a short distance to make it into the center. Otherwise, you have to go through all this mess to get into the center, and then go through that four-way stop separating the two halves of the lot. Personally, I've found it much easier to go through the alleyways of this shopping center in the rear of the center, but they have speed bumps that'll stop a tank. You gotta take them super slow or you'll go airborne. There's usually not many vacancies in this shopping center. There have been several big box stores that haven't made it here, but their locations have been repurposed and are rented.

The street that I remember driving in front of the Alamo many years ago is now non-existent! I am really digging the Alamo Plaza, though. From what I understand, the plan is to make it entirely pedestrian-friendly - no more vehicular traffic. Thus, much of the surrounding area is still under construction, but most areas in front of the Alamo are safe. This plaza is not the same as the Plaza de Valero, which is in front of Menger Hotel. Just ensure to wear loose, breathable clothing and drink plenty of water on the really warm to hot Texas days... a young lady in a tour group I was in passed out and hit her head on the concrete of the plaza. She (or rather her boyfriend) refused medical attention. I don't know if she's okay now, but it seemed serious at the time. PARKING I think your best bet with all the ongoing construction would be at the Rivercenter Parking Garage. TIP The building west of the Alamo will be the new Alamo Visitor Center and Museum. A grand opening for 2027 has been slated.

While the Alamo itself is rich in history, I prefer people-watching myself. And boy howdy, is there people watching here! While on my visit, I was enjoying a dish of ice cream, curtesy of one of the shops along the street, when I was able to get my fix of religion. There was a street preacher, or perhaps someone who just wanted to be a street preacher, yelling out scripture and nonsense. It didn't take long for him to be escorted to the end of the street by the police officers who where there patrolling on their bikes. Too bad, I was ready to repent and convert. The plaza provides lots of shade with several large trees and a little bit of seating on benches and concrete walls surrounding the landscape. Most of the shops along the street are geared toward tourists (souvenir shops, overpriced oddity museums and some eateries.) It's worth a visit for a while, but you might find better, less expensive options, a few blocks away.

It covers a large area and you have the usual suspects that are normally found in these large centers ranging from Target, Kohls, various restaurants, and specialty shops. If you want to spend a day of shopping and pick up all you need in one spot this is the place to go and you can easily finish it off with a multitude of places to eat. The biggest drawback is of course the traffic in the area. On the weekend I would suggest being strategic and take some of the less traveled roads along the outskirts and ignore whatever navigation system you are using to reroute you. It will save you some time and frustration especially when dealing with traffic on Bandera.

This large shopping center is located at the southwest corner of Loop 1604 and Bandera Road…read more There are a lot of shops here, but my favorites are along the access road - Spec's liquor store, Mia's Mexican restaurant and Randolph-Brooks FCU. Within the center are Pier 1, Old Navy, Target and Lowe's, plus many smaller stores and restaurants. Because of construction in the Bandera Road intersection there's a lot of extra traffic flowing through this shopping center right now. It's a convenient way to get around the construction, but it makes accessing different stores a little more hectic and dangerous.
