Built a great house at a fair price and made the process fun. Always available to answer questions/or provide information.

    A-Team Custom Construction

0 Stars My horrid…read morehorrible experience with the a-team who, in my opinion (IMO), does not live up to their name unless a= amateurs. In summary, I had a porch redone and they: 1. put in tongue and groove porch decking with screws like a patio deck, 2. left up to ¼ inch gaps between the tongue and groove on nearly half the porch, 3. left an inch visible gap next to a column on the porch deck, 4. took three times coming back to put the railing on straight, 5. and, overbilled needed "additional work" and tried to gaslight me into agreeing I got a good deal. Do you want details? Keep reading. After talking me up on their quality of work I decided to pay for a porch replacement for my house. I felt good; the price was on the high side but I really wanted a quality job. After doing the tear out, the project lead told me they needed to do additional structural work under the porch. He gave a tear out and rebuild or repair option. In my opinion (IMO), he was clearly disappointed when I didn't agree to just have them replace the entire structure underneath the porch (for a hefty bid increase). The additional work needed was setting 3 new joists next to existing joists, adding 8 joist hangers to existing joists, and adding cripples to the center joist. Nothing had to be torn out or separately supported beyond what was already needed to replace the porch rim. The project manager bid that this work was going to take 2 carpenters a half a day's work was completely outrageous. When I complained that the additional work he was proposing was "Price Gouging" and did not represent the work being proposed, he agreed it might be overbid and said he would have his workers specifically track time on the additional work. I agreed this was an equitable way to track the needed additional work. When the job was done and final inspection was offered, several problems stood out. 1. the bottom stair was half missing, 2. the railings were several inches out of level and square, 3. the railings were cut off square to the round columns rather than wrapping around as they had been before and 4. the worst... the tongue and groove decking was put down with screws and spaces like patio decking (¼ inch spaces on one end) I complained and they came back... and complained and they came back... and complained and they came back. After three times back to the house to improve the quality of work, the decking was still fubar'd but the railing was straight. (1/4 inch gaps in the tongue and groove, 1 inch gap between the flooring and a column, tongue and groove not cut off on the ends, and, of course, all the screw heads in the flooring. IMO, very sloppy). They then quit responding to me. Definitely Not the Quality I Hoped For. When such obvious errors and shortcuts can be seen on a job as simple as a porch column repair and flooring replacement, one wonders what shortcuts and problems are hidden inside bigger jobs...the pics they take don't point out these flaws and IMO, gave me a false sense of knowing what was happening with the repair work since I could not be on site. On the billing, it was the full amount for the extra work with no explanation. After dodging my calls for a few days, the project lead responded and tried to BS me by saying his team really spent a half day on that part of the job despite not having tracked it as promised. He then highly embellished the work that needed to be done by calling out tasks that were part of the original work and claiming they had to be done for the additional work request. When I knew enough about construction repair to challenge his claims, he backed off. He then changed tactics and went on to say the overcharge was really due to underestimating how much time it took his team to repair the porch columns from the original bid. He said that everything really balanced out because of that extra work and "I was really getting a good deal". l told him I thought it was bill charging shenanigans and price gouging. When the owner was confronted, he claimed it was unreasonable to expect a crew to accurately document time on a task despite his foreman saying they would. Buyer be warned... If you want a team who will follow through on what they promise and will do the job right, keep looking. IMO steer clear of the a-team when looking to make home repairs and upgrades; I will be for my next home repair and restoration project.

My house in Lawrence was in need of new siding. Based on recommendations from friends, I chose…read moreA-Team for the work. The quote was accurate, they used excellent materials (selected from a set of recommendations in the quote), and they did a great job. I have never seen a group of people work harder than A-Team. They worked through Covid with only a few days missed when someone was out and they were not able to fill in with someone from another project. There were daily updates on progress and they cleaned up the site every evening before they left. I found everyone from the office staff to the construction professionals to be knowledgeable and very well-informed. Their prices were very reasonable too. I am very happy with their work and would choose A-Team again for any project in the future.

I'm posting this review 1 year after my mother's disappointing bathroom remodel experience with…read moreInside Out Remodeling because this contracted job is still costing her money for electrical repair work. She is willing to pay the extra money to get the job done correctly and has peace of mind that her house won't burn down from dangerous electrical wiring. The electrical work in the bathroom (lights, ceiling fan and GFI switch) was faulty and confirmed by another well-established local electrical company to be "the most convoluted way to wire", "way too many wires crammed into the box" and "he got confused and got it [the wiring] all turned around". These were direct quotes from the other electrician. The electrical work wasn't the only disappointment in their work. A job that I was told would take 2 weeks ended up taking almost 2 months and many nights at a local hotel because we didn't have a bathtub or shower for bathing. Mother informed Caleb, the owner, before the job began that we only had one full bath and one half bath and we would need the shower/bath to be usable as soon as possible. We communicated our concerns about some of their work at the beginning of this job only to be ignored and reprimanded by Ryan for being too particular. We felt our opinions were undervalued and brushed off. All we wanted was a decent job for the overinflated bid. The communication was fairly nonexistent after that. The electrical work wasn't the only disappointment. The paint was inferior and thin and didn't cover the drywall very well. My 91-year-old mother had to add a second coat to the walls, and she improved the appearance considerably. I was grateful she didn't fall and hurt herself and ashamed for them that she had to finish the paint job. Because of the lack of communication, the medicine cabinet was not installed to open the way my mother wanted it to be, causing a conflict with the bathroom door when it was open. Other issues included misalignment of the shower handle and faucet with the tub overflow drain (fixed but costing more time and money), cracking the tile while installing the grab bar and never mentioned the cracked tile (fixed but costing more time and money). We found the crack after inspecting the work when he left for the night. Scraped and scratched the grab bar itself (not fixed) as well as the sconce light fixtures (purchased new ones and had to reinstall). They installed a used and bent tub. We have no idea where they located it. It could have been stockpiled from their warehouse since the first one they brought out was totally unacceptable. (not fixed, took $35 off the bill). Inside Out told us it was our responsibility to purchase the sink and toilet and I wish we had purchased the tub also as we would have had the satisfaction of knowing it was new. They did not address the heater register cover until the job was almost completed, telling us that it was our responsibility to buy and install the cover. We were surprised and shocked to learn that the cover was not included with the remodel . After frantically searching Google, I found a cover for the register, ordered and purchased it. It miraculously arrived a few days later, minimizing further delay, only to find Inside Out was unfamiliar with this type of heat register and installed the end caps upside down (fixed but costing more time and money). One year later, I can say that we would NOT recommend Inside Out to anyone that might be unfamiliar with construction. Or frankly, anyone at all. We felt they took advantage of an elderly woman unfamiliar with remodeling work. Ryan lost his trust with us completely when we found he had tossed his drywall mud outside behind the propane tank so as not to be found. Had he asked, we could have shown him where to dispose of it. Again, no communication. The delays in completing this job were frustrating. One day Ryan worked a full day but most other days he worked between 1-5 hours and sometimes didn't show up at all. He wasted so much time on our project by working minimal hours and performing poor quality work that I informed Caleb we didn't want his to return to the house to complete the small details left to do. The time he did spend at her house, he was constantly on his phone running other projects, which took his focus off mother's job. And it showed. I feel Inside Out's remodel job for my mother was poorly devised and in my opinion destroyed the credibility and capability of their work. We were also charged for the roll off dumpster that sat in his company's parking lot to be used for all his other jobs. I would never recommend Inside Out Remodelingto anyone and if someone looking for a contractor mistakenly feels that an overinflated bid can buy good quality work and good integrity, you'll be very disappointed with Inside Out Remodeling. Best regards, Teresa Barnard

I highly recommend Inside/Out Remodeling. We hired them…read morethis summer to tear down and rebuild our deck. This was a difficult project due to the size of our old deck, the rotten lumber that needed to be removed, and the limited space in our yard due to landscaping and setbacks. We had to change some plans to be within code, but the guys made these changes with ease I was impressed with both Bryon and Elijah, arriving early, getting right to work, and working through the heat! Some days, the temperature reached 100. Not a pleasant work environment, but they never complained and were always friendly and upbeat. Dustin was also a very hard worker, along with the 4th guy who joined the crew toward the end of the project. We're so thankful we found this company and hired them to do the work. No regrets. Caleb, one of the owners we worked with, was also fantastic. He was easy to get hold of, stopped by to check on things, and talked to us when any issues arouse. The bid we received from him was very detailed, and the materials used were high quality. I was also pleasantly surprised that when I asked for something extra to be added to the project, it was not a problem at all. They said "sure" with a smile and just did it. These guys went beyond what I expected. A great team! I would hire them again for other projects.
