What furniture shopping should be like! Terra Nova not only have an amazing selection of good quality furniture, their pieces are one of a kind and turn your house into a home. Then there were all the personal touches from messages from the owners themselves, photos of the specific piece that was going to be shipped, and then the most careful delivery team I've ever had. You can't go wrong with Peter and Alejandra! read more

We love our new sideboard! The workmanship is excellent and we're very happy with our purchase!

Earlier this year, my family bought a new (to us) 100-year-old home, and needed furniture that fit both the house's style and ours. Although we bought a few pieces for various rooms, after five months and way too much shopping, the dining room was still unfurnished. I saw the Yelp reviews for Terra Nova and decided it was worth a visit, even though it was "appointment only," more of a commitment than I usually like to make. Peter put me at ease immediately, and explained that most of their furniture was displayed in an enormous warehouse/showroom, plus a few vintage pieces at the Sawtelle address. I made an appointment, and the family headed over to check out. Wow! The selection was not just impressive, we all liked a lot of pieces we saw. We could have furnished a half-dozen dining rooms! After some discussion, we settled on a table and chairs, plus a console table/sideboard. A few days later we found a vintage piece we really liked at the Sawtelle store and bought that too. About four weeks after the order, all the dining room pieces showed up at our house, delivered by the hardworking Rolando and his crew who were meticulous about setting everything up perfectly (the table is heavy; we would rather not move it.) The set looks as though it was custom-designed for that space. I cannot recommend Terra Nova and Peter enough. read more

I ordered a large piece of furniture online, and was a bit nervous. Everything went well with ordering online, the value and the craftsmanship of the furniture. Communication was good, and the item was delivered and placed into the room of my choice. Everything was great. read more

I inquired about a buffet they had online - it had been discontinued at some other retailers. They told me there was one left, sent me a photo, and I decided to purchase it. Best delivery service I've ever experienced - there was inclement weather where I live - and they were diligent about communicating their whereabouts. The buffet was delivered in perfect condition! read more

Where Furniture Dreams Come True on the West Coast Stepped into Terra Nova Designs expecting a typical furniture shopping experience, but what I found was a portal to a world where sofas are king and ottomans are not just a defunct empire, but a necessity for my living room. This family business might as well be adopting every piece of vintage Asian furniture it brings over--each item is handpicked like the family's star athlete. And let me tell you, the game is strong with everything from Buffets to Bookcases. Their motto is Quality, Practicality, Beauty, and Affordability, which is honestly more commitment than my last relationship. And they've stayed true to it since '94--a feat my Tamagotchi never lived to see. Custom sizes, endless fabric choices, all lovingly crafted in their L.A. factory--this isn't just furniture making; it's furniture couture. It's like they looked at my sad, empty apartment and said, "Let there be a Chaise!" The antiques? Each with more stories than my grandpa, minus the repetitive holiday tales. And the reclaimed wood pieces? They've reclaimed my heart and my desire for sustainability. Their website's a treasure trove, but the real magic? The showroom. It's not just a shop; it's a journey through time and space, minus the DeLorean. Next time you're in L.A. and considering where to score your next conversation-starter coffee table or a dresser that's more art than furniture, Terra Nova is your spot. Just be prepared to want everything--and possibly ask if the owners will adopt you, too. read more

I have been doing business with Peter (the owner) for at least 10 years now. In my opinion, it's one of the best design/furniture stores around. Peter and his staff are always a pleasure to deal with, and highly professional. Every time I visit the store, Peter personally greets me, and I find myself losing track of time, as I explore every inch of the space. Peter is constantly traveling and bringing new treasures back to the delight of his customers. ... things that you just won't find anywhere else. If you're looking for good quality, unusual objects to make your home special, then Terra Nova is the place. Peter cares deeply about his store and customers. I recently purchased a beautiful teak wood dining room set with custom chairs. Due to no fault of his, we found that the cushioning in the chairs made them too low for the table, which was a standard size. Peter rented a van, picked up the chairs at my home, and made multiple trips to the factory to ensure the problem was corrected and that I was satisfied. He then brought them back to my home and made sure they were the proper height. The lengths Peter went to make things right says a lot about his commitment to his customers. I think you'd have a tough time finding another business that would work so tirelessly to make sure their customers are happy. I will return over and over again and can't wait to see what new interesting finds Peter will have in the store next time I visit. read more

I was meeting Lucy Y. at Miss Stevens, but this store was right next door and I can never ignore Asian decor. I am always looking for new items for my new place, and this store has a great selection. Am especially looking for some type of Asian-ish buffet for one wall. Trucked on through the store and found all kinds of things from buffets, to tables, chairs, screens, vases, lamps, mirrors. A real find. You have to look around and concentrate, because there are so many things to see. I will be back when I have more time to contemplate. read more

I cannot say enough about Terra Nova Designs. I found a beautiful sideboard on their website and had to have it! I was extremely nervous about ordering such a large piece and having it shipped across the US....what if it wasn't what I was expecting or it didn't match my color scheme or what if I just didn't like it? I was doubtful about the colors so I contacted them. Peter was exceptional... Great customer service. He offered to send me a video of the piece I was interested in which sealed the deal for me. It is perfect in my Florida home and I get many compliments. I like the fact that it's not what everyone else has. Thank you so much Peter and Terra Nova Designs! read more

Honestly, there are no equals to Terra Nova. I have been finding miracles here for years, including the prices that are so reasonable, that those miracles become mine instantly! Terra Nova is in my home, my office, my children's homes, or presented as gifts for dear friends. It is simply impossible to walk away from "it" when I see it From the ceremonial tassel I found to hang on my door when I am in session; or the credenza that turned my son's new home from great to extraordinary; or the framed, carved,100 Chinese Blessings disks that hang in my guest room, my life has become filled with treasures. Every single of my many purchases has its own story that prompts great conversation AND effusive compliments! I want to share this news with you....just do not buy that item over there that I must have!!!! read more

OUR NEW GO-TO STORE! As soon as you walk into the store, you will immediately fall in love with their setup/design. It was very hard to walk through and not want to buy everything. Janeth & Alejandra were amazing in helping us pick out our custom sofa! We could not be more happy. They understood our needs immediately and worked with us in designing the perfect sofa. Their sales style was also what drew us to them from the start. They are not pushy, they give you space to think & speak privately, and they immediately understand your design aesthetic and suggest things you may have not considered. We'll be back soon for more pieces! Counter stools, custom headboard, coffee table, accent chairs, pillows, credenza... we want it all! read more

A bit overpriced even with (up to 70% off). Was greeted by the presumed owner, but not greeted at all by the woman at the front at the desk. Also loudly & noticeably took a picture of me as I exited. I wonder if everyone gets this treatment? read more

Saw Terra Nova's ad in the LA Times and checked them out on Yelp. We needed one final piece for our new apartment. We went browsing today and found the perfect cabinet at Terra Nova. It's interesting and unique while being functional -- indicative of the store itself. Peter, the owner, was great to work with -- he was very helpful and accommodating. The sale went smoothly and it'll be delivered by early afternoon tomorrow -- almost instant gratification...see it, buy it and it's in your home. Peter went above and beyond by having his craftsman do some "detailing" on the piece so that it'll meet our expectations. Truly a pleasure doing business with Peter at Terra Nova Designs. My husband and I visited Terra Nova tonight in search of a stand for our new television set. I had driven past them on Robertson Blvd. hundreds of times without bothering to stop in, and I can't believe what I have been missing! The store is full of delicious furniture -- dining tables, chairs, side tables, bedroom pieces. The stock is simply gorgeous! We found the most beautiful piece that ties together everything in our living room. I am so stoked! Alejandra, one of the owners, was so patient and kind. She showed us countless pieces before we found the perfect one for us. What a wonderful place to shop!! Thank you, Terra Nova! read more

So on my way to driving to a friends house I thought I'd check out yelp for furniture stores and Terra Nova Designs popped up. After looking at so many others place for the perfect design I wanted for my living room, I didn't have much luck. Needless to say, I didn't get my hopes up on this place. Well they exceeded my hopes and within 30mins in the store I found a coffee table, two end tables and a media center that I fell in love with. The pricing was very reasonable for the great quality of the furniture and delivery was so fast. All of the items were in my home two days after visiting the store. The young lady and the gentleman were so pleasant to do business with. They even told me when I'm ready to buy bedroom furniture ( as I mentioned I was going to be looking for some) they could find pieces that were no longer in stock. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I honestly would. read more

We recently purchased a beautiful cabinet from Terra Nova to meet a very special need to fit into a tight room layout and provide much needed storage. It was delivered and it met every requirement we specified including a flexible shelf system. We couldn't be happier. Amazing store. Reasonable prices, and very knowledgeable staff. They go to great lengths to import beautiful pieces from around the world. They helped me decorate a whole new living room from scratch, so basically doubled as a free interior decorator in addition to providing great, stylish furniture. Secondly, Pete has a great eye and the pieces he brings back from his travels are amazing. I recently got my new couch from them and it is the most comfortable couch. I shopped at RH and everywhere else in LA but settled on buying from Peter because I knew his customer service is top rate and he would make sure I loved it. UNETHICAL!! I found a cabinet there last weekend which I planned to use for the powder room vanity in the home I am renovating. It was close to closing so I asked the sales girl if I could hold it until my designer could see it. She took a post-it and wrote my name and phone number (which was correct) on it and put it on the price tag on the piece. My understanding was that if anyone had interest in the piece before I could return she would call me to see if I was ready to buy it. There was no discussion about how long it could be held. I figured that until someone else wanted it I was safe. If someone wanted it she would call me and I would have the option to buy it. My designer couldn't go until today. We went and there was a SOLD tag on the piece with someone else's name on it. I was livid. The same girl was there and said she remembered me. Then she said she had called me and didn't get an answer. I showed her my phone which had no such phone call from her. I asked why she bothered to put my name and number on the piece if she didn't intend to call me if someone else was interested in the piece? She said she thought she called me (lie) and that she must have had the wrong number (another lie). She said that they only hold items for one day. She never told me that and even if she had, why would she bother to put my name and number on the piece! Then she called the owner Peter. I explained the situation and he simply hung up on me. So incredibly unethical!!!! Great pieces but really bad business ethics... DON'T TRUST THEM!!!!!! read more

This place is the furniture store of my dreams. I have been on the hunt for an asian or rustic buffet on the larger side (at least 80" wide) but I didn't want to sacrifice my first born to pay for it. There are a few rustic furniture stores in Santa Monica that I adore, but their location means that you're paying a premium on their wares. I stumbled upon Terra Nova in a late night Google rabbit hole and I couldn't wait to pay them a visit. The second I walked in, I was in love. It's a large store with a huge selection of buffets, tables, consoles, chairs, cabinets, shelves, decor and more and the BEST part is that the prices are TOTALLY REASONABLE. Peter, the owner of the shop, could not have been more friendly or helpful. I did not feel pressured in any way. He walked me around the store and pointed out a few pieces that he knew were in the size range I was looking for, then left me to it. I wandered the store for at least an hour before zeroing in on a few pieces. I ultimately ended up buying a beautiful Indian rustic/antique buffet that day. Peter helped me make certain that it was the measurements I needed and was very helpful in supplying a measuring tape. I explained that the buffet would actually be used to house some electronics and was concerned that the buffet would not have the appropriate ventilation. He said that he could have his guys put some cut outs in the back to provide the needed airflow - all I had to do was provide the measurements of the cutouts and where exactly I wanted them. I did so the next day after figuring out the measurements I needed, and he executed them beautifully. Peter uses a delivery team of two very nice guys. It cost me $150 for the delivery because I live on the second floor and there is no elevator in my building. Two of the hardest working dudes I've met. They were very professional and covered my stairs and other furniture they would be working near in blankets to prevent any scratching. They even took out the old shelf that used to occupy the space the new buffet is now in...they don't technically haul out old furniture for you, but I asked really nicely and then tipped them heftily as a big thank you. Over all, I cannot say enough nice things about my experience with Terra Nova. So many beautiful unique pieces at the right prices, and the owner is a gem. I hope they are around a very long time because I'll be shopping with them again! read more
