We enjoyed a very delicious dinner on Sunday by the river in Terra Cotta. A 10 out of 10 for taste and presentation. We enjoyed the Burrata salad (my favourite), Penne Rigate alla Diavola, Fettuccine con Funghi Freschi & Tiramisu for dessert. We will definitely be back with family and friends. Service was excellent: 10/10. The ambience inside the restaurant was comfortable, looks and feels like you are in Italy, very friendly and inviting. A beautiful, longstanding restaurant that has been a pillar of the Caledon community. That being said, Terra Cotta Inn is competing with newer restaurants closing in, and some may find the menu offerings rather old fashioned or dated. It does cater mostly to an older crowd. Would do well with some updates and elevations to bring a sense of modernity to the table. The building is lovely, however, and I can appreciate the antique design that captures the old-time charm of the restaurant. Fitting for a casual lunch or a more formal dinner. We travelled for over 2 hours to get there because back in the 70s my wife's parents ran the Inn. It was important to my wife because she was a toddler at the time they lived in the Inn but she still had fond memories of the place and the village. The plan was to eat and take photos to show her older brothers and her Mum. Unfortunately the woman at the front desk was rude and condescending and frankly disrespectful even after we explained why we were there. We left within 5 minutes disappointed because the rest of the trip in Ontario was really nice and the people were lovely. read more

Definitely a 4.5. situated in a quiet area I would have never stopped if it wasn't for yelp. The inn is next to a stream which is nice to walk along and take a seat. It is very relaxing but watch out for the geese poops. We were seating inside and was seat promptly. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The menu isn't the largest but I actually like that. The french onion soup was delicious. The onions are nicely caramelized and the soup wasn't too salty. It also wasn't too watery like others I have tried. The veal scallopini was also delicious. We enjoyed a pizza and beer on the patio which was very tasty. The servers were attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our food. This is a rambling older inn and has a friendly feel to it. It has a traditional vibe and is popular for weddings and family gatherings. All in all a great place in a picturesque location. read more

Super cute restaurant with a great outdoor patio & garden space too. We dined indoors and it had an almost Tuscan-artsy feel. We loved the 'special of the day' RICOTTA STUFFED GNOCCHI (with a super rich and creamy sauce), FUNGHI SALTATI (assorted mushroom appetizer with the most savoury brothy sauce), and the VITELLO FUNGHI FRESCHI was good (the veal scallopini was tender). Spacious patio seating with wonderful view! A really nice restaurant for a good dining with a view. Reservations required as limited seating is available. Great service and really good food. We had Veal Scallopini with assorted mushrooms, and Atlantic Salmon grilled in extra virgin olive oil. Both dishes were delicious, fresh, and served nicely, appetizing! Ending was with dessert of the day, Tiramisu, perfectly moist. The restaurant is located inside a quite large green lot next to the river. Came in last-minute and they had space - the patio is amazing, but what's more amazing is JAMIE! The downstairs pub, we learned is closed, but we're glad we had a chance to sit on the patio.. You want good food? Go here. Want good food and phenomenal service? Go here and get Jamie. We were a table of three: 2 adults + toddler. We came unplanned, so I wasn't sure of what to get and Jamie was so patient, and the recommendations he provided: ON POINT. We ordered the calamari fritti to start and it was a good portion size and very flavorful. I had their special with the sea bass and hubby had their gnocchi special. While they don't have a kids menu on paper, Jamie was fantastic at providing it from the top of his head, and it's a great selection - you can't go wrong! Had lunch before hiking with my husband & son on Saturday. We arrived as soon as they opened but it was already pretty packed with walk-in customers and reservations. We were seated at a table downstairs. We had Veal, seafood risotto and tiramisu. Veal and risotto were decent but not exceptional. Tiramisu was pretty good. I first went to Terra Cotta Inn after a rigorous 4 hour hike at Terra Cotta conservation nearby. Maybe it was because I was so hungry after my first real hike in Ontario. Maybe it was the feeling that I had earned the right to eat as many calories as I wanted. Or maybe Terra Cotta Inn is just that awesome. There is a formal dining room upstairs, a patio outdoors and a casual pub-like room downstairs. Each has their own menu. The first two times, I went to the pub. After a hike, you want a cool, basement atmosphere with little fanfare, cool air conditioning and a laidback but efficient server. A tiny bar with a nautical theme I think, at the corner, tables around the room, the specials written on chalkboards hanging on the wall. There's a speakeasy vibe with the basement windows that stream sunlight in with overpowering the room. The food here is consistently good, and the offerings are actually a step above your typical pubfare. There are the usual burgers and nachos of course, but there is also calf liver, curried shrimp and vegetables, a variety of pasta dishes (particularly sea food options). What I like best is the atmosphere. Every time we've been here, the server was quick to take our orders, relatively quick to bring our food, and timed it just right to come and ask us if we needed anything else. But there was no one rushing us, no feeling of impatience - it feels like the sort of pub that your neighbourhood (in a small town) would just drop by, and sit in. Which fits the flavour of Terra Cotta as a whole, this village in Halton Hills. Terra Cotta Inn is about 35 minutes north of Mississauga, and yet it feels like a world away. There's a sleepy quality in the surroundings, as though the people who live here are from an era long ago. Who go to bed at 8 pm. Wake up at dawn. All know each other. It's not true of course, but it makes me feel like I'm down the street from Anne of Green Gables. Maybe that's why I keep coming back. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, management is amazing. The reason for the lower points is that some of the staff is a bit rough around the edges and struggles to be warm and professional. These are the exception rather than the norm with the staff. read more

VERY disappointing. We went here last sunday night, and sat downstairs, and the waitress just ignored us. It took her 10 minutes to come over to our table, that would be understandable if she was busy, but there was only another couple in the restaurant and she stood there talking to them, instead of serving us. Then when we were ordering, I asked if I got the chicken parmigiana could I substitute the potatoes and vegetables for spaghetti. The answer was yes but for an up charge of $3.00. What!! Since when does pasta cost more than potatoes and vegetables?? I said no, that that was ridiculous. So I ended up getting spaghetti and meatballs. What was a mistake. The plate looked like they just opened up a can of spaghetti. The pasta was mushy and the sauce was out on a jar and the meatballs, just plain yuck. Well we will not be back there, and we will let everyone we know about our experience. They should really consider hiring staff that know customer service, servers should not be rude to customers. read more

What a wonderful place to have dinner. They have a dinning room upstairs and a pub downstairs. We had the lamb covered with pistachios with veggies as well as the Greek salad. The salad had a very tasty dressing and the lamb was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth with flavours of fresh rosemary and pistachio. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. I had dinner here with my dad and a friend of his. So my dad's friend brought us here, and it was awesome! I had the gnocchi of the day which was stuffed with ricotta made with a truffle cream sauce with asparagus. Absolutely delicious and one of the best gnocchi dishes I've ever had. Service was solid and the people knew their stuff. My dad ordered a veal scallopine with shrimp, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a white wine sauce. Definitely will be coming back here! The Terra Cotta Inn is divided in 2 parts. The fine dining upstairs and the pub downstairs. The atmosphere in the pub is cozy. It's a nice little place to go have some dinner and a beverage. The pizza and their salads are very good. You can order dinner food that is served upstairs as well. I went to Terra Cotta Inn with my family tonight. We live pretty close and have had many family gathering and nights out there. Tonight we didn't have a reservation but decided to go anyways. The hostess reminded us a reservation was needed and that they were fully booked. However they sat us ( family of 4) underneath a window on the patio with a very small round table that was different from all the other tables. We ordered a pizza to share and 2 spaghetti and meat balls for our young children. The pizza arrived and we waited for the kids meals. During this duration there was at least 8 tables empty. Since we had to wait a long time for the kids meals we started eating the pizza and the kids waited. The waitress had asked us if we would like the meals together and we had said yes. We were there for about 45 minutes and more tables had become available. My husband and I saved 2 slices of our pizza to eat while the kids would eat. I had become a bit frustrated and asked the waitress how long it would be for the kids meals? She replied with a I thought you all were sharing the pizza and canceled the kids meals. We very respectfully let her know that was not the case. She said sorry and asked us if we would like the bill and the spaghetti to go. I'm very upset because they treated us very poorly and in many ways discriminated us. Very sad to see a restaurant we have enjoyed eating at treat us the way they did tonight. I am making sure never to go here and let others in our community know how they treated us. Also, by the time we left there must have been at least 12 more tables available. What a sad situation and they have lost our business and we have had many big family functions there over the years. read more

Rarely have I found so many Yelp reviews to be as accurate as those given to the Terra Cotta Inn. Location: Peaceful and charming. Sitting on the patio overlooking the Credit River was delightful. Service: Excellent. It was right at the start of lunch and the place was very quiet, but our waitress was attentive, thoughtful and prompt. Food: Very good, in almost every respect. Between the two of us, we ordered Antipasto Misto [for two] and a Caesar salad. The antipasto came with warm, fresh bread. The only downside to the meal was that the grilled calamari was very chewy; other than that, the seafood, meat cheese and vegetables were uniformly tasty and the portions were immense. A word of warning: We were both more than satisfied after this meal, so if you do order this appetizer, forget about a main, or you'll be taking it home in a doggy bag. All in all, a very fine dining experience in a relaxing setting. PS: Someone at the front door [manager/hostess?] was wearing way too much perfume/cologne. The terra cotta in is a lovely spot with great food. We enjoyed the liver and a lovely spicy pasta with a creamy tomato sauce. Everything is made fresh there and the hot peppers to go with the pasta were almost as good as mine at home. Dessert was delicious, although I must say that most restaurants give the birthday girl her dessert for free and mine was on the bill. Our friends swear by this place, they have been there numerous times over the years. No disappointment. The pace is relaxed, with good and efficient, but not overbearing service. The food was superb and not very expensive to boot. Highly recommended for one and all. We saw families with children and all seemed to have a good time. There's a pub downstairs and a more formal dining room downstairs. The ambiance was great in the pub with a big fireplace going. Great menu from pub fare to steaks and pasta dishes. Four of us went to The Terra Cotta Inn for lunch yesterday, what a beautiful setting! They had opened their covered patio so we sat outside. One person in our party had ordered pizza during her last visit and when we asked the server why we weren't seeing it on the menu, the server said that the patio menu was different but happily brought out the pub menu that had the pizza on it. We ordered the ANTIPASTO MISTO FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 OR MORE ($16.50/person) which came with grilled shrimp, calamari, seafood salad, smoked salmon, prosciutto, melon, bocconcini cheese, tomato, grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, pickled vegetables, olives and roasted peppers and it was really fresh and tastey. For lunch it was actually more than enough for us. We ordered pizza as well, not knowing how large the appetizer was, and ended up taking most of the pizza home. Whoever designed their parking lot is brilliant; there is no curb between the lot and the road, you can just drive right into the spots and then drive out. My family met on Saturday, June 16 combination birthdays (mine and my son) and Father's Day. There was a total of 10 of us. From the moment we walked in the front door we were treated royally. We sat in one of the main dining room with lots of space for all of us. Our server was Laurie who was amazing and helpful to us. The ambience of the inn is peaceful and inviting. lovely location. Food is always adequate, but not fantastic. Good value for money. Posh upstairs, cozy in bar. We like the patio but it is chaos in the summer. Why no Maitre'd, or at least some supervisor. It is terrible for service. We were there last week and left. No service and the staff grumpy. We managed to get drinks but gave up and paid and left. We were a group of six and went to David's where we got a fantastic meal with great service. come on, this used to be one of our favourite places but it's gone to hell. Take care of your regulars. We are regular and they ignored us. How can anyone call this classy. I guess it depends on what one has seen. The upstairs is classy but the food is the same as on the patio and in the basement with some small differences. Most likely we will be back but only because of the location.
