Make sure you go early enough. We went at 8:30 and were told they stopped taking orders because they close at 9.

This place is not very good. I normally love Asian food. Not this place. Ugh the only thing I can recommend is the plain white rice. Ugh

BEWARE - HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!…read more I should've known better than to attempt a dinner from a restaurant with no reviews. I should've opted for the fast food chain at the bottom of the hill. I could've gone to the adjacent grocery store and bought dinner for a family of four. I would've rather lit my $20 bill on fire and watched it burn. Should've, would've, could've. Without knocking the style of cuisine with relation to the geographical location of this sorry excuse for a Japanese restaurant, I implore all readers to consider other options. Ordering two of the lowest prices "special" rolls, both priced at $8.99 each, one would assume a moderate portion to be delivered. In reality, instead of including two tempura shrimp in a roll resulting in the familiar shrimp tail protruding on both ends of an 8-piece roll, this place is peddling a single shrimp, sliver of avocado, and practically undetectable shred of eel wrapped in a measly six pieces of loosely formed maki for a steep $8.99 ticket price! The pictures speak for themselves. Do yourself a favor and don't bother.

Wanting to have some authentic Japanese food and the path took us to Yama's Japanese Restaurant…read more It's a barely noticeable hole in the wall in Downtown Morgantown. There's a paid parking lot across the street as well as metered parking on High Street. Their awning has seen better days but after walking up a small flight of stairs, you enter a cozy restaurant and greeted by its staff. There's about 8 tables for seating and the walls are neatly decorated with Japanese art. The front wall displays photos of their food offerings and made ordering easy. The friendly cashier answered some questions and we placed our order of shoyu ramen, curry rice with chicken katsu, shumai, gyoza, and takoyaki as well as soft drinks. There were several other customers having their meals and more gradually filled the tables as others left. The food was served soon after and looked delicious. They formed a kitty cat with the rice, complete with nori for cat eyes on the curry katsu plate. Nice touch. The curry was very flavorful and just the right consistency and a little spicy which went great with the katsu. Only wish there was more katsu. My buddy's ramen looked fantastic and was told the noodles were delicious in the broth. Found out the noodles aren't made in house but bought from a vendor. The gyoza and shumai were very tasty alone and with its sauce. The takoyaki took some time to cook but was nicely sauced and served. There were sizable chunks of tako inside and was very tasty. The prices are reasonable for a specialty restaurant and the service was great. There's another Japanese restaurant in Morgantown which was very good but Yama's was a little better and I'd return if ever I'm in Morgantown.

Ate here last week. I got the tempura rice bowl and the California roll. Both were excellent…read more The California roll was much bigger than I expected and it was filling. The service was very fast and I got the food much faster than expected. Highly recommend this place. Will be going back this week.
