My mouth waters at the thought of Teppanyaki Lovers. This little Japanese restaurant hides in the Level A food court of the Myer Centre in the city, close to the bus stops. It really is one of the city's hidden gems. It doesn't look like much from the outside, just a hole in the wall with hand written signs stuck to the front counter exclaiming the day's specials, and only a few food court seats nearby. But this is some of the best and most affordable Japanese take away available. Every meal I have had from this place, and I have had a lot, has been fantastic. If I were to only recommend a few it would have to be their Katsudon served over rice and omelet, or the yakisoba. Their takoyaki (octopus dumplings) are to die for, creamy and smooth with Bonito flakes on top. The service is always good and friendly and it is kind of cool that you can watch as your food is prepared. The servings are massive and almost everything is under the $15 mark. They also often give you a complimentary miso soup with your meal. I crave Teppanyaki Lovers and highly recommend it to anyone who loves Japanese.

Great fast food chicken katsu and great sized portion for the price. Chicken katsu with egg was super tasty, esp the sauce on top.

Their lychee tea was good but the service was meh... they gave you hardly any salad dressing on the salad, and brought our orders out to us randomly and given to the wrong people so I ended up assuming what she gave me was my order of beef when it was my friend's lamb and it was just a mess like that throughout our table orders. I would not return. The sauces were just OK and the meals as well.

My friend S and I were seated in the outside area and I was happily entertained watching one the chefs cut omelette and shoot it at the guys sitting up against the cooking area. Our food was nice, we had the edamame to share, and then ordered mains. S had beef teriyaki box and I had tuna carpaccio. Winning points: - Miso Like a good miso should be, this was like a hug. - Edamame I could eat these forever. Next time I will try the chilli ones though. - Chefs The chefs were super entertaining and I'd totally sit up at the cooking station to watch them do their thang. Point losers: - 10/15 minute wait for my tuna after S's beef had arrived. This was annoying and meant that S was almost finished by the time my food arrived. - Tuna carpaccio was actually mini steaks. The tuna was nice but not fabulous. I wanted super thin tuna and it came with sweet and sour sauce which was a little odd. I'll head back at try it again but I reckon I'll just hit sushi.

Starting at $52 for a beef salad, miso soup, king prawns, teriyaki chicken, beef wagyu and fried rice it is a bit on the exxy side, but the entertainment book has vouchers which will save you and a friend or lover up to $40. Plus, it is also an extension of the Stamford Hotel... all a little bit per tur per tur. 'You wanta fire?' 'You wanta catcha egg?' 'You want to flipa rice?' Where else do you get to wear a wax coated bib and have food being thrown all over yourself and the floor? For a Wed night it was pretty packed and you have to ready to sit next to strangers and have a bit of fun. Laughing a plenty and taste buds a yummy, it was quite a pleasant surprise I got to what I expected. It is a great place for virgin-teppanyaki-goers to start off and experience. Food is tasty, the atmosphere is fun, the chefs talented. Loved it.

Beautiful restaurant, somewhat overpriced and pretty disappointing service…read more We were visiting with a group with a wide array of preferences, and while the restaurant did have options for everyone, I have to admit it was fairly overpriced for what we received. Drinks were attractive but weak for $30 apiece. Portions were small. Service was non-existent - noone checked on us once, refilled water, asked us if we wanted another drink, etc. We actually had to flag someone down twice for a check. What we did have was good but it was extremely expensive for what it was. We would not recommend.

Cue Sono. We loved the restaurant for the atmosphere and truly excellent service (personal, informative / knowledgeable, entertaining). We both ordered the 'tasting menu' with wine/sake pairing. For starters, the amount of alcohol in the pairing is really quite high (half full glasses x 6). Not sure that this was even possible, but I would have preferred less(!) alcohol (I guess we could have just let some of it go to waste, but that would be near sacrilegious). If you don't mind sipping from the same glass with your dinner partner, I'd recommend ordering just one wine/sake pairing (and save $45 in the process). Now, for the food. Some of it was really excellent (particularly the first half), but not all of it knocked our socks off. Definite highlights were the oyster in lime sauce (part of dish 1 - all of dish one was great really), salmon sashimi and snapper carpaccio in vinaigrette (part of 2), and the delicious crab meat croquette (part of 3). The fourth course had a delicious piece of seared salmon belly sushi, but the two pieces of cucumber sushi roll and one piece of prawn tempura roll felt a bit out of place in a menu like this. Maybe it was designed as light intermediate bite? Our mains were duck breast, which was ok but not special, and excellent Wagyu steak, but in a rather heavy sauce (too sweet imo). The desert was a chocolate cake, which was tasty, but not wow, and not spectacularly presented either, as you often get when splurging on a degustation. Wine/sake pairings were great. Service was excellent. Would be happy to eat here again some day and pick some of our favorites from this tasting menu.
