I've had an opportunity to work closely with a personal trainer by the name of Lisa Tilley and wouldn't trade her for the world! Lisa is motivating, educated, patient and understanding. She helps me with my work out and also gives me great advice for my diet. When I first met with Lisa, she asked me a number of questions to ensure she understood my fitness needs and goals. She truly did listen to what I struggled with and has since motivated me enough to stick with an exercise program! Nubody's is a little more expensive than a few other gyms, but it's well worth the money. I pay biweekly which helps me with my budgeting and I get to pay through payroll deductions. I actually receive a corporate discount. Being a member of an all-womens gym seems to be less intimidating and I really enjoy it!

On the plus side, the gym is modernly designed and is very clean, and is a nice looking place to work out in. On the downside, in comparison to some of the other gyms, this gym is overly crowded with equipment and people, and could greatly benefit from an expansion. The gym tends to get uncomfortably warm during busy times especially the upstairs yoga studio. Also, the gym does not offer all of the same equipment as some other Nubody's - for example their is no stand up calf-machine and only one set of 20 lbs hand-weights. Overall, a nice club, but for practicality reasons I would choose to do my workout at another Nubody's.

It's what happens when you lose a lot of weight and actually come to realize you like doing crazy things like run marathons, complete triathlons and lift heavy stuff. As a newer member to CGC I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the set up. The cost is reasonable too at about $50/month for a year membership. I haven't taken any classes so I can't vouch for that portion of the gym but I do hang out upstairs in the cardio room quite a bit and so far so good. They tell me it's not too busy during the morning/day. As of yet I've never had to wait for a treadmill. When it is feeling a little "packed" I'll go run laps on the indoor track. It's a great way to get in some nice cross training in between some push ups or perfecting the pull-up. My favorite part about CGC is the pool(s). Olympic standard size and as of yet never too busy to not get a lane. Instead of chloride as standard chemical cleaner they use bromide (much gentler on the skin). Locker rooms (both wet and dry options) are spacious. Lockers themselves are big for that over stuffed gym bag. Showers are kind of funky but once you get the hang of them they're not too bad. And while I don't frequent Subway, it's very convenient to be able to grab a little nosh on the way out.

One thing that I wanted to say that completed frustrated me to the point which I really do not feel like go back to this location is one of the trainers was putting on a class which I signed up for really had no idea what she was doing. I showed up and she said that special class was cancelled. Oh I did not get a call. So she then continues to say well let me see what I can do for next week and I will call you. Well that did not happen she did not call me and I have not been back to this location since.

I give it a 3 star rating because I find the Burnside location is much better and newer!

Being an all woman's gym it is great to be able to go and do your thing freely. Yes, I know that Nubodys does have women's facilities as well but I really like this location. Alot of equipment is available as well as two circuits to use. Large exercise room that you can go to for many different classes, Body pump, Yoga to name a few. Babaysitting on site for those who have small kids. Sauna is available as well in the change rooms along with some great showers. I also like the fact that when you leave you can pick up something from the superstore on the way home.

There is always someone around to give you tips, answer a question or just chat. They're truly interested in how you're progressing with your fitness and they want to help you achieve your goals. Their classes are great, although I have to say I'm disappointed about them cancelling the NewBody classes, and the instructors know their stuff! There are just a few things I think they could improve on in this club: -The BodyPump class, and a few other classes, are things that I would love to try but each time I try they are FULL. I'm talking a line-up just to sign up for the class, full. And when you get in the room, there is barely room to move. - They've cancelled their free weight orientation. I don't know if this is a company-wide move or just this club, but I've been directed to take BodyPump instead of the orientation and that, as someone who has never done free-weights before, didn't sit well with me. I need some one-on-one here, folks. Other than those two things I would definitely recommend this club to any ladies that are looking for a new place to work out. Members and staff are great and I love the welcoming atmosphere.

So I…read morehustled down to the only gymnastics club I had heard parents say over and over--Halifax Alta Gymnastics club in the west end Halifax. Demand for instruction at this club is so high that the waiting list for all age groups is generally two years long. Perhaps because I physically dropped the forms off to the office rather than mailing them, my daughters only had to wait a year before getting in. When September came the three of us had earned the privilege of spending an hour every Sunday afternoon in a big steel building with wonky heating that smells like five hundred pairs of sweaty gym socks. With the exception of the smell, the facility is very clean. The mats and foam cubes in the foam pit were just replaced this year, giving the gym an extra measure of cleanliness. Now both my daughters are of above average height. The older one in particular is double the weight of any Russian gymnast so her exclusion on the Olympic gymnastics team is certain. Despite their physical disparity with the sport, my daughters are benefiting from the high quality instruction. Within three weeks, my three year old was doing, assisted of course, somersaults on the beam. Every minute of class time is maximized. No standing around here. The kids move from apparatus to apparatus doing drills nonstop for the whole sixty minutes. The staff is caring, learning the kids names after only two weeks. Although the fees are a bit on the high side ($150+ per child) for a 14 week session, I have to say it is worth every penny for such a well run activity that really improves your child's confidence and physical skills. Just be sure to get your name on the waiting list early.

The pool is small, but recently updated. If you live in Cole Harbour visiting the pool is basically hanging out with your neighbors and school friends. It's a great pool to bring the kids to while you get in some relaxation and suntanning. The prices are okay, with family pricing and adult passes a few dollars cheaper than the much larger Cole Harbour Place. They offer classes in synchro, swimming, diving, and water polo for those of you looking to gain an impressive new talent. The pool is also home to the Colby Sailfish, a great swim team for kids and teens. If you're looking for a different party idea you can rent the pool out. When I was younger there was a small twirly slide and several diving boards, including one of those scary tall ones. Since the reno they axed the slide and huge diving board, but kept the basic two pools. The regular pool, and a shallow pool for tots and small kids. The best thing this pool has going for it is that it's outside. It's nice to be able to swim and enjoy the sun without the bitter chill of the ocean. Being outside is also a downside as your enjoyment rests on our fickle and every changing weather. There is also a huge parking lot and you can easily get a bus to the pool for the car-less.
